Rodgers praise for loyal Coates
22nd May 2013 - Latest News

Brendan Rodgers has praised the 'loyalty and support' of Sebastian Coates throughout what he accepts has been a difficult season for the Uruguayan.

The outstanding form of Jamie Carragher and Daniel Agger has made it tough for Coates to force his way into the side this term and his tally of starts since signing at Anfield in 2011 is just 17.

Rodgers said: "Seb has been in here and has been a very loyal member of our squad.

"He has been a great support player for the group. Obviously his chances have been very limited. That's unfortunately how it is sometimes as a defender. (translation: "he's there as a warm body to form the wall for free kick training sessions...")

"As a manager you are very rarely changing the defence. It's more the midfield and front players. It's been difficult for him.

"He got a lot of games at the beginning of the season with the cups but obviously since January it has been hard for him. We will sit down when he comes back for pre-season and we will take it from there." (translation: "but he didn't show he was good enough in those cup games; when he comes back for pre-season, we will discuss his preferred destinations...")

"He has been here a few years now. All players want to play, I respect that." (translation: "but he'll have to get them somewhere else...")

I wonder if he's one of those players that needs a good run of games to 'come good'. When he came over he was heavily hyped (as they all usually are) and he looks not too bad, but wonder if he'd turn good with an extended run in the team.

He does realise our defence is leaving or has left already. You start with 4 apples Brendan, now take 2 away, and how many are left? That's right. There's well fuck you 2 apples left. Good job Brendan.

Coates, Wilson and Carra definately not starting 2013/14 and Sktel may still leave too.

Toure and the Greek bloke coming in seems to be a decent balance with Wisdom/Kelly in the mix too.
