Does anybody think he would have made a difference tonight?
No. We played well, created a hand full of good chances and we lost to stupid goals against. Nothing he could have done tonight. Just one of those nights. now we can focus on keeping teams under the same pressure as we kept on Villa and we will soon be up there fighting for the title. Compared to the pre-season and the Spurs game (maybe even the Stoke game) yesterdays performance was very positive!!!

I haven't seen Riera's absence mentioned in any of the coverage. Normally someone would ask why a player didn't feature. It's getting almost Soviet-like.

I've not watched any of the pre-match or post-match interviews, has anyone asked him the injury status or Riera at all? Or why he hasn't played? He had that knock in the friendly and we've heard nothing at all about him since. Not even a 'yes fo sho we will look at him, I think he may be available, we will see no?'.

We are missing width again, the width that Riera gave us last year.
The left is Yossi's least effective position, he keeps drifting inside anyway.
The obvious thing to do is to put Riera in, drop Lucas, pull Gerrard back alongside Masher and put Yossi in the role Gerrard has been playing

so simple, doubt it will happen though. besides on yesterday's showing shouldn't we be keeping gerrard as far away from our half as possible 😉

He would have made a difference. Kuyt or Benayoun could not hold the ball up for shit. This is one of Riera's main strenghts.

Yup.

Academic though, ain't it?

If Rafa doesn't start him against Bolton, there should an almighty great "What the fuck is going on with Albert" afterwards from the press

Even if Riera is being sold for a super-fucking-pele-ace player to come in, I still don't think it's a great idea - Riera needs to stay as cover as Babel is next to fucking useless, a liability.
Well I don't think we could afford to have both Riera and a replacement for Riera could we?

There were vague murmerings on 5Live last night asking why he was not playing. Nothing more than that though

Move golden boy out of his role just behind Torres?! There will be uproar on the forum if that was ever to happen. That's nearly as bad as having two decent strikers upfront, having Gerrard in the middle and playing a 442 - madness!!

But I agree with what you're saying Vlad, wont happen though.

There wont be uproar. Thats the only viable solution.
Sometimes last night Gerrard was drifting even behind Mascher.
That team with Lucas is completely unbalanced.
There must be something going on with Riera, He scored for Spain and then Rafa didnt pick him...weird

I think this is actually something that we are universally agreed about.
Gerrard, for the greater good of the team, has to drop back into midfield

I think its basically benayoun is a better player.
Kuyt had a great season however I'd have him playing up front either with Torres or as cover for him. The side would be better balanced if Yossi was on the right and Albert on the left of Torres. Football is a simple game.

Do explain.

No problem, Vlad. You're not alone, we've all made posts that make no sense at all. No need to explain, old chum.

Anybody think it's a case of Riera getting a bit of a big head, and this is Rafa's attempt at bringing him back down to Earth.

Anytime I saw Riera over the summer, be it for Spain or us, he was swanning around like King fucking dick. Let's not forget Albert, that 12 months ago you were at Espanyol and begging for a move to us. Besides, you're not that fucking good.

Riera out, Robben In. Can't see it happening though.

If Riera doesn't feature Saturday and is fit then it is very odd.

You see, Vlad made a wryly self-deprecating remark with endearingly all-too-human universal implications. That's this outer nimbus here, okay. Now, Wilko took this and unwittingly twisted it into an ironic remark, here, which he then seemed to fold over into a meaningless remark which might have hitheto unknown facetious connotations, okay? That's this triangular shaped bit here. Which of course has triggered the first bubble of Shatner's Bassoon. Now that's gone right up my shirt cuff...
