Pre Match vs Exeter, Friday Jan 8 2016

The "good news" I guess, is that the likes of Kent, Brannagan, Smith and Randall, as well as Sinclair, Chirivella, Cleary and Wilson (if these guys are picked) have played together since the U18s, while Teixeira (if he indeed exists) also played a season, on and off, in the U21s with some of them. So perhaps a lot of excited and energetic guys who're familiar with each other out to stake a claim to a place in next season's squad, might make up for the unfamiliarity with Klopp's methods/demands and the lack of match experience. Well, that's what I hope anyway.

Good point. Might be better building a core out of players who are very familiar with each other rather than a patched up team of senior bench-warmers / table tennis players, kids and knackered first-teamers.

I doubt Enrique will play centre back. He's incredibly one-footed, and doesn't Ilori prefer playing on the left?

I think he can play both 'sides'. Enrique has played CB for the U21s a couple of times.

I suppose this is part of Klopp's argument for not sending the best players on loan - that if he needs to delve into the Reserves/U21s he can pick players who have played together a lot in the system he wants and therefore will have something approaching a decent understanding. Maybe.

Like Jon said, the amount of young players getting a game has piqued my interest in this match now.

Remember that time Riise played CB? I think it was against Boro ... Great assist to Stevie G in that one ... So we'll see something similar IF Mr. Table Tennis plays in the middle ... with a great pass to Kent and GOOOOOOOOOOOOLAZO

That's a really young line-up. And Sinclair up front...

WOW ... Yikes ... I'm not sure who's gonna give more of an effort - the kids (who will be eager to impress) or Exeter (who will feel slighted by this team selection)?

They shouldn't really. It's obvious we're in the middle of the worst injury crisis in years, off the back of a run of games every 3.5 days, and have Arsenal and Utd to come next week.

Klopp: “None of the players who played the last five or six games in a row will play at Exeter. That is not possible." #LFC

Enrique alongside Ilori appaz

This is ace though:
Asked whether Enrique was in his plans for Exeter, Klopp replied: “Who?” Once clarified, he continued: “Hopefully" #lfc (Andy Hunter)

FUCKING LOL

Enrique must be fucking muck in training. I thought Enrique he might get some bench time at least under Klopp, clean slate and all that. I've never thought he was brilliant, but he was not completely shit.

Depressing stuff. If all of those players can really be trusted to do the club justice in the first team, it might have been prudent to use a few of them more regularly in recent games and spread the work load a bit more, rather than ignoring them all until now. Oh well, maybe they'll confound expectations and sparkle, after which we can play all of them for several more games on the trot until they break down, after which I guess we'll pick all of the under-17s.

Happy if he plays the kids but would prefer we have a bit of experience in there. Ming, Milner, Lucas, Allen and Benteke should all start.

Blimey, that lineup is crazy considering this is the FA cup, I could understand it for the league cup or ropey league. It's the cup that would actually be good to win, if he puts that team out he really can't be arsed with this cup. I understand the defence being ruined, but midfield and attack we've got senior options.
That or he thinks our u21's are that ace that they can destroy Exeter.

That's a fair point, but it's probably a lot easier to put one or two into the team when a team is winning consistently. We've had no easy games lately (which this season basically is vs Aston Villa). At least a lot of them will have played together in the U-21s.

Also, the odds on us winning have gone out from 1.35>1.62 from earlier in the week, so it looks like the bookies have got a sniff of the team news.

That can't be the team, surely? I'd certainly have put a couple of first team players in there. We're going to lose if that's the team.

It wouldn't bother me quite so much if the players had become used to playing in Klopp's style for a while in the ressies, but the reserves still play in the style laid down by Rodgers: pretty slow, ticky-tacky stuff. After about the third wallop by one of Exeter's senior bruisers, urged on by an over-excited crowd, I doubt some of these lads will enjoy the fact they're being watched by a sizeable chunk of the nation. I really hope it works out, but it's a massive gamble and, for me, one that's way too rash.

I would go as far as saying it will be a pleasant surprise if we don't get beat tonight.

The only proviso I would add is that, by all accounts, Exeter like to play a more pleasant, passing style of football, so their % of cloggers might be lower than expected.
