Look, we have come to this stage of the season where everything is looking like it's going to shit when it matters the most and we have the same usual suspects to thank for it. It's exactly the same situation we have last season. They can't blame us for having little faith in them.

Nunez, diabolical mostly and cannot be relied upon
Diaz, runs alot but delivers next to nothing
Jota, in between fitness, ALL THE TIME
Mo, misfiring except for pens

I have lost patience with the first two, losing my patience with the 3rd and the 4th looks like he is leaving regardless.

I think I am done, just get us the 2 trophies and F off. I look forward to an entirely different frontline next season.
Imagine you were a fan of any other team!!

We're so many points ahead in the league ive lost count, and are in a cup final today.

You'd think we were about to be relegated.

Our strikeforce isnt without fault, but it is good enough to be smashing everyone else. Salah is breaking all the records, and diaz gets so much shit on here, i cant fathom. He works his butt off, puts his body on the line, is skillful and has regular end product. Nunez goal against Soton for very recent example.

Please try and enjoy what is a truly remarkable 1st season with Slot - things could we a lot worse...

That's just a silly argument. I do not support another team.

We are good enough to be smashing everyone except Madrid, Atalanta, and PSG, with 3 consecutive home losses in a row in Europe in 3 seasons.
I just think it is time for an assessment of who is simply not good enough for the big matches when it most matters. It's long overdue.

Or should we be satisfied with the league cup year after year?

I just learnt why the Liver in Liverpool and Liverbird are pronounced differently.

More interesting than listening to our fans complain about winning the league and being in a cup final again.

That is an absolutely amazing stat. Is it true?
Well I can only find 12. I think the person who got 14 might have added the Swiss cup final twice although Salah didn't play.

1. 2017–18 UEFA Champions League Final:
Real Madrid won 3-1. Sadio Mané scored for us.

2. 2018–19 UEFA Champions League Final: Liverpool won 2-0. Goals by Mohamed Salah (pen) and Divock Origi.

3. 2019 UEFA Super Cup: Liverpool won on penalties after a 2-2 draw.
Sadio Mané (2).

4. 2019 FIFA Club World Cup Final: Liverpool won 1-0. Goal by Roberto Firmino.

5. 2021–22 EFL Cup Final: Liverpool won on penalties after a 0-0 draw. No goals in regular or extra time.

6. 2021–22 FA Cup Final: Liverpool won on penalties after a 0-0 draw. No goals in regular or extra time.

7. 2021–22 UEFA Champions League Final: Real Madrid won 1-0.

8. 2022 FA Community Shield: Liverpool won 3-1. Goals by Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah (pen), and Darwin Núñez for Liverpool.

9. 2019 FA Community Shield: Lost on pens 1-1. Joel Matip scored.

10. 2020 FA Community Shield: Lost on pens 1-1.
Takumi Minamino scored.

11. 2017 Africa Cup of Nations Final: Egypt lost 2-1. Elneny scored for Egypt.

12. 2021 Africa Cup of Nations Final: 0-0 draw. Lost on pens.

Do a similar one with goals from quarter finals and semi finals then. The road to the final is probably just as important...

CL: Barca - LFC 3-0 ( no show)
Didn't play in the return leg.

CL: Villarreal, zero goals there too.

FA cup: Man C - LFC 1-3 (no show)

WCC: LFC - Monterrey 2-1, nope.

Two AFCON semi's. Nope both went to pens.

However, he did score against Roma in the CL semi's in 2018.

Can't be arsed looking up the rest.

The name Sadio Mané appears in a lot of these games that I've looked up. Man, I miss Sadio.

  1. This season, goal and assist against Spurs to get us to the Carabao cup final
  2. Last season, goal against West Ham in the quarter final, we won the Carabao cup
  3. CL run towards the final in 2022, assists in both games against Villareal in the semi finals
  4. CL run towards winning in 2019, goal and assist in the quarter final
  5. CL final 2019, scored the first goal on a pen
  6. AFCON 2022: Goal and assist in the quarter final. They lost on pens in the final
  7. This season in the league: 8 goals and 6 assists so far against the "big/top 6"

Its easy to be selective in regards to how Mo contributes.

Why don't you add the group stage too. Originally this was about finals.
And clearly he's a "no show".

Nah finals are 100% more important, or we're just being arsenal fans content with getting far in a tournament. Theres a lot less pressure on the other games.

Not scoring in a final you don't win means all your work in that tournament was pointless and will be forgotten

Its got nothing to do with being like Arsenal fans or being content at being a nearly club. Its all about winning. But the road to said final before winning are equally important as they get you TO the final.
But sure lets create the narrative were it isn't cause it suits this argument.

If anyone thinks the penalty he scored against Spurs in the final doesn't count in this instance is having a laugh. Talk about pressure stepping up there.

Going from a QF/SF in getting you to a final and then coming back with "group stage" is just poor. I expect better from a fellow Scandinavian. 😉

No one's saying they're not important, they're not AS important as turning up in a final for me. I just don't want to shower players in praise for doing all the hard work beforehand and then putting their feet up in the final. For years we've had players who would turn up in the big games but go no show in the dross games. Those games matter, as they're the games that win you league (hence why we're winning the league), but they don't win you cups.

A goal in the 3rd round of the FA cup matters a lot less than a goal in the final. It matters less than it matters in a semi, quarter, etc. Goals value increases the deeper you go in the competition as you tend to start facing more difficult opposition

And I agree with you, pens still count in finals, especially in that pressure.

I didn't think that was a wild take, that goals in a final matter more than goals in any other round

I think there is an element of arguing that black is white here (though I have skim read the posts so maybe I've got it all wrong).

It's entirely reasonable to say that we've missed him in finals. You always look to the star players at these times (particularly if you're losing)... I don't get the "but what about the other players" and "what about this game or that game" come backs. Salah is one of our best ever players - that isn't going to change - but facts are facts.

You want to be the star, make the highest amount of money, talk about the ballon d'or, have everyone support you on your record breaking endeavours... that's all cool... but with that comes a certain amount of extra responsbility. It is what it is.

Some players don't have the stats on their locker to back up their ability. Henry is a fine example. One of the best to play the game but often conspicuous in his absence on the score sheet whenever arsenal did anything. As opposed to drogba, who more often than not made huge impacts

Yet we know which one was better

It's a critique, but hardly the most damning.

A pen after two minutes when it's 0-0?
Thats not a pressured situation, that's a freebie.
If you miss you've got 88 minutes plus added time to rectify it.
