Match Thread Cup Final - Newcastle (Anfield South) - Sun 16:30

Are you high?

Are you seriously saying the players you listed or not creative?

Each and everyone can be incredibly creative and have shown it this season.

Just because we are knackered and lost a cup final doesn’t mean we suddenly have zero creativity.
But they haven't shown it consistently this season is my point! Milan baros was an elite goalscorer in a euros. He was still fucking muck 90% of the time

If you're not going to be realistic about this squad then what's the point discussing it?

In the league, Outside of mo and Trent; who's our top assister?

Diaz with 4. Trent only has 6 btw

Get fucked if you think that's enough.

"Incredibly creative". Maybe in the fucking special needs premier league, but not for fucking Liverpool fucking football club

Szobo is a worrying case. Everton got into him in the derby and he spent the rest of the game crying off to the ref, he bottled it today.

This final wasn’t on Trent missing (he’d have helped with creativity, but it wouldn’t have been game changing).

It hinged on some mixture of Slot’s inexperience in a big knockout game, tired minds/legs from Tuesday, and not having an answer to Newcastle turning up with much more desire.

Hoping both cup results are a stark reminder to the owners that Slot won’t work miracles next season without contract renewals/key signings, and also serves as a lesson on how he should approach these type of games. Biggest worry is that he is more Rodgers than Benitez/Klopp in close fought knockout games, although hard to say this early.

Yes, this is why I think the jury is out. The other thing is that his attitude in approaching some games are very much that the manager of a small club.

Don't get me started in the PSG game. Very small mentality. And the "No Prep" penos.

No no, fucking no. are you hearing yourself?consistency has nothing to do with creativity?? Are you fucking high?? Trent could be in the absolute fucking mud form wise, but he'll still ping a 40 yard through ball. The best players find a way, regardless of form or fatigue.

We are fucking 12 points clear and statistically the most creative because of fucking Salah. He's an outlier. An aberration. The kind of fucking lightning in a bottle that usually doesn't exist

We are not a creative fucking side. We are the beneficiary of 1 players outstanding season.

There is not a single forward outside of Salah who walks in to a fully fit arsenal side there's an argument for gakpo but he's not consistent enough yet. He might be, but he's not yet.

Diaz is fucking muck fur 80% of the season. Jota has decided to be a full time FIFA player it seems. Nunez is fucking insane. Szob is a fucking shithouse. Macca has his moments but is still deep. Robbo and tsimi are equally erratic

You're insane if you look at that side and think goals and assists are coming from everywhere

Yeah we're not a creative team. I'm about a million miles from being a tactical mastermind but I've seen creative teams play and we're nowhere near it.

Honestly the teams we remind me most of are Rafa's better sides. Possession-based, controlled without being excessively defensive, totally focused on "playing the percentages", zero flair or beauty, but very effective.

I find us boring but I don't really mind if we win. And I thought Klopp generally played ugly football too, albeit very attacking and exciting.

I'm not sure how much Slot really wants to play like this or if it's just a function of the players he inherited.

@rurikbird raised the concern about a month ago. To quote him "How the fuck is this sustainable?"

Dreamy saying in that thread we're not a one man team, is so on brand

Ultimately we sent out a team who didn’t play like they wanted to win. We were passive until the game was over then showed some energy.

Lots for Slot to learn on squad usage next season. It’s a shame we see so little of Chiesa in a forward line littered with passengers.

Very reminiscent of a Klopp final. Absolutely no heart.

So Mo and Ramadan. Is there usually a massive dip in form? He's been a ghost for two games now. It's kind of bizarre how he goes from a once in generation player for most of the season to "Is he even on the pitch?"

Ramadan or Trent. I'd really like to see the stats run on both scenarios (during/not during Ramadan; with/without Trent) and see the numbers over the past 2 seasons.

It's at this time, I feel Houllier should be given some props. I cant say much about the Paisley, Fagan, Dalglish days cause I was a kid.
But under Houllier, I don't think we lost a final.

Congrats to Newcastle on a deserved cup win first and foremost, we played like the league cup is beneath us and didn't turn up until the 85th minute.

Our first halves for the last 2 seasons have been very concerning, why do we always rely on the opposition "tiring out".

Nothing really more to say than that.

It's funny, the Chelsea side we played last year were better than Newcastle.
We should have lost that final. Now when the players jumping for joy on the bench from that game had a chance to win it themselves they failed miserably.

He's not great at holding onto the ball under pressure, and can't physically impose himself on a game.
That's because he's not got very good ball control. So can't play in tight spaces between the lines creatively.

His best attribute is his running power, where we can break from deep and he can join with off the ball running.

Unfortunately, even when he gets into the box with a late run, he's not very decisive nor is he making the right decision more often than not.

Still, he's useful in certain games (tough away games like City away due to his workrate and running power). But games that require cuteness or a metaphorical lock unpicked, he's not the ideal 10.

Slobby is best arriving late in the box. It doesn’t help we are slow slow slow slow with the ball when we don’t lose it. By the time we get to the box they have their whole team defending.

Well I'm already over that. Newcastle looked like they meant it, we looked entitled.

Much more intent needed, we don't want to make the league a contest.

See I'm the opposite. If we attempted to play well we could have won that, but we didn't. Fatigue or not, this is a final and we're Liverpool. The barest minimum is to try and win it.

I can't place my anger on any one person, as it's such a stupendous fuck up it's easy to blame everyone.

If we can't turn up for a CL last 16 or a final, what hope have we got the next few games?

Heads need to roll and slot needs to use the next few weeks carefully

Szobo is a worrying case. Everton got into him in the derby and he spent the rest of the game crying off to the ref, he bottled it today.
Szobo is shit and doesn't have a clue how to link play, without his work horse like stamina he'd be a Sunday league player.

If his only contribution or attacking ability is arriving late in the box then he's a passenger for a lot of games

He's not that player for Hungary and he wasn't that player for Leipzig.

Something has gone wrong with him since signing.
