Match Thread Cup Final - Newcastle (Anfield South) - Sun 16:30

I don't know how Slot fixes our attack, but he has a lot to do to replace nunez, jota, diaz and maybe Mo

I think we have to have a complete overhaul. The time for incremental change is gone
I completely agree. Issue comes with we have a loooooot of players to replace. We need a RB, LB, CB, DM, another CM, 2 ST and potentially a versatile player to play LW or RW. We won't sort all that.

We'll still be starting Jota at times still next year I reckon.

I don’t understand why if he was happy to play Jota game after game without impact, why not have tried Chiesa earlier. Clearly it would have been low risk to have tried at any point this month.

And all those suggestions of complete overhaul? Not going to happen. We are prob going to lose 3 core players, plus we want at least 2 strikers replaced, a LB and a CB? I just don’t see it with how we operate.

Slot like Klopp needs to place more trust in the rotation of the squad
No one's going to force him to do anything he doesn't want to and the likes of Endo, Harvey, Chiesa, Bradley and Quansah are like dirt on the bottom of his shoe, he's long had it in his mind who his first teamers are and nothing will change that......probably gave the ticket key for the others to get a look in over to Johnny boy to swallow.

I can’t agree with all of that.
Bradley would have played if not always injured, Quansah is not good enough at RB as an option and Endo possibly yes but he has had chances too and not taken it either. Harvey also has had chances after his injury and taken it.
Honestly only probably Chiesa can feel rightly pissed off as he hasn’t had a fair chance especially over last 6 weeks.
Also, the decision to rest 9 against Plymouth was counter productive.

It was a disaster of a performance start to finish but I still can't get over the decision to have Macca mark Dan Burn on corners.

After Burn got on the end of a couple balls, we kept doing it. After Burn scores, we kept doing it.

It was completely and predictably stupid to begin with but to continue doing it was beyond belief.

Slot explains it the post match presser. Something something...zonal defence...
Something something...Burn shouldn't have been there.

He's never seen someone head a ball like that in his life. Yeah.

He was bitter in that press conference, which is good.

He talked about how we played their game and lost, which is true, and talked about how much they went long. I'm more worried about us and how we are shit about playing the ball on the deck.

At least we won't be hearing about how the club will only dip into the market this summer if there are players who will improve the squad. I mean, they can't possibly trot that one, out can they?

I could live with the Lucas-esque midfield performance, Mo's worst ever game for us, Jota's pathetic attempt at being a fit footballer and Diaz being a complete waste of space but what fucks me off more is that this was an utter disasterclass from Slot which only got worse with time
Yep, his tactics where all over the place like a mad woman's pish.

I'm deciding right now to go full optimism.

We have the league in the bag. But it's clear Slot doesn't trust a lot of the squad. But he's been lucky that Klopp's older squad members had the legs for one last dance.

If he came in and tried to make a load of changes it's unlikely his players would have been given patience by the fans.

With a league in the back pocket they can make the changes and maybe focus next season on bedding them in while keeping top 4 and have a lash at the cups.

This probably isn't the thread for this, but I've been on the wine.

If we win the league, and it would be hard not to, he's had a marvelous first season.

I do think this is the last laugh of a grand old team, not the first step of a new one. They deserve it though.

So do it. Don't make me sweat too much, and no one will give a fuck come may.

Yeah, huge summer ahead.

Anyone who thinks that we will spend big in the summer is totally deluded. We posted a loss in our last accounts for one. And secondly our owners are FSG.

My predictions r

1. We win the league but not without a few nervous Moments. We won’t cruise over the line as gunners will be thinking we r bottling it
2. we spend the money we get from sales only. People pissed off wirh FSG now cos they ain’t got the 3 new contracts sorted. So the “big spending” talk comes out. Once mo and VVD renew , we will start to hear that their wages come out of the money ear marked for new signings.
3. We sell Nunez, Keller, kostas, endo, doak, Morton, beck
4. we buy left back and, new LCB. We r linked with Isak but don’t buy him. Once he signs for another team or renews with NFC, the press say we were never actually in for him (which means FSG were briefing to the press we were defo gonna sign him when we had zero intention to (like with Bellingham )
5. we get Jonathan David from Lille on a free.
6. we keep Diaz, Chiesa , Jota,
7. we have danns, koumas, bajetic back from loan.

I hadn’t really thought about Chiesa as an option as just assumed he was never gonna get a chance. But for him to play so well today in the face of Nunez Jota and Diaz playing so badly recently is just fuckkng stupid.

Cody clearly not fit and he brings him on ahead of Chiesa

Chiesa made slot look a tit today playkg so wel and the fans will get on his back if he keeps not playing him. I genuinely cannot understand how slot can still keep picking jota, Diaz and Nunez Ahead of Chiesa. How can he not be given a chance given the dreadful form of those three? This signing (like the new Keeper) was a Hughes / Edwards signing and one that they have thought is a no lose as both could be sold for a profit if it don’t work out. Slot has been negative about Chiesa nearly every time he speaks about him. The guy is a top top player and slot is playing Nunez (who he clearly thinks is worse than voronin) and Jota (who he likes but is cheesed off with his injury record) ahead of him. It is utterly mind boggling and hints at a power struggle between slot and Edwards / Hughes.

Anyone who believes LFC will spend big in summer needs to give their head a good old wobble.

Anyone who thinks we will sign Isak needs to be put in a secured facility.

And slot has shown that he is not the messiah after all. We have been shit for months now and got away with it time and time again. He messed up with Plymouth. We were outclassed by PSG first leg and we didn’t change anything tactically for leg 2 (the formation we used against city might have worked leg 2 perhaps)
It was blindingly obvious that we would be flat today. The midfield 3 in particular. He clearly should have made Changes here (I would have started Jones and Elliot and benched macca (cos he tired l) and dom. the simple reason being they r totally shagged .

the second leg of PSG and this game were so predictable it makes my piss boil the coaching staff can’t see it.

I am just thankful we have a decent lead in PL. if we were only a couple of points ahead, I would be really worried. As it stands I am worried but cannot see us fuckkng it up from where we r .

We also began trying to actually attack with some purpose when we chucked him on, because there was fuck all to lose. It's not like for most of the match we were peppering the box but our forwards didn't have the right movement. We didn't develop any attacking ideas or do anything. We didn't play any meaningful football.

Right the way through the side we were cowardly in approach even before you get to the shit execution. This is exactly what I was talking about with regard how it's bad to get into a habit of covering up because you lose confidence on the ball. When you go to play psv and just decide, well, fuck it, we can't compete with the mighty psg aren't they brilliant, you tell you entire team, hey, you lot are essentially limited on the ball.

Its hard when the team is tired and short of form to then then around and say, hey, this is a very physical Newcastle side, go and be more technical than them now, weave patterns around their hulking forms.

I cannot forgive that first psg game, it lays the groundwork for this whole fucking shit time. I've watched us lose all sorts of shit, this doesn't even register, but it's been since hodgson since we had a manager do something where I thought "he doesn't think we will win this." I find that alarming and I can't let it go.

Forget Salah, he is the least of our problems and he will stop being a problem in June unless something changes.

Chiesa has more goals involvement than Diaz who has had zero goal involvements despite playing the most number of minutes for god knows how many big games / finals with us.

Even if he isn't sold he needs to drop to the bench permanently. We need much better.

But they haven't shown it consistently this season is my point! Milan baros was an elite goalscorer in a euros. He was still fucking muck 90% of the time

If you're not going to be realistic about this squad then what's the point discussing it?

In the league, Outside of mo and Trent; who's our top assister?

Diaz with 4. Trent only has 6 btw

Get fucked if you think that's enough.

"Incredibly creative". Maybe in the fucking special needs premier league, but not for fucking Liverpool fucking football club
Special needs 🤣.

I think Gakpo, Diaz, DoM, Macca, Curtis and Harvey are all incredibly creative players.

As an overall team I would say we have. We’ve lost what 3 games we wanted to win all season and suddenly we aren’t creative enough?

We are unlucky that Gakpo got injured when he did and that Bradley was injured at the same time as Trent for this week.

I’m really glad we decided to exit all the cup competitions so we could ensure we don’t get complacent by winning too many trophies.
A bit late mind.

Can you find admit it was fucking stupid trying to win everything or you still we should have gone full strength in the FA Cup too?
