Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish has constantly defended Suarez from such allegations since the player arrived at Anfield.

But Scharner has reopened the debate after the Reds were awarded a spot-kick when Jerome Thomas was adjudged to have fouled the Uruguayan after only eight minutes.

Asked for his verdict on Suarez's performance, Scharner said: "It was a nice dive for the penalty and that got Liverpool well started for the game.

"It put us under pressure and we weren't good enough to respond.

"He (Suarez) is very good at winning penalties. He's one of the best on the planet, in fact. I had a good view of it.

"If that's a penalty, then you will find 1,500 penalties are given in every match.

"I know it was the assistant who flagged for it and maybe he had a better view than the referee. But there was a general feeling amongst all the players that it was a soft penalty."

Remember when Roy wanted to buy Scharner last year?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Good times.

He didn't dive at all. He got straight back up to his feet to chase the defender. I.e. Paul Scharner and the other Tony Pulis led members of the SAF cock sucking brigade are full of shit. It's just another case of when that gobshite SAF says something the media and footballing fraternity immediately fall immediately into line with whatever whiskey nose says. And all this, from a manager who has managed the likes of Nani, Ronaldo and RVN.

It was a peno you don't often see given, but, like defenders hugging strikers in the box, they fucking should be given a lot more often.

Just because this went against the grain of what ref's allow defenders to get away with doesn't mean it was wrong, it wasn't, he clearly made no attempt to play the ball & blocked suarez from doing so in the process, which is an offence, it was in the box, therefore, it was a pen.

I'd say WBA were lucky since we could easily have been awarded 3 penos in the first half. I hate Paul Scharner, but Ohlsson is an even bigger twat.

I normally like Scharner , he has a bit of character in a sport full of simpletons , but he's acting the cock here . This whole 'Suarez dives' thing is starting to annoy me ...not because i really care what people think , more this is typical of the football world , somebody says something more than once and everyone happily believes it .

I can't believe people in the press (and on the commentary) are disputing it, he took his fucking leg!

Whether he's great at winning penalties or not, it's his skill and ability to draw a challenge that makes it happen, regardless of whether he's a diver. I notice not many people have come out and mentioned that midweek against Stoke he was tripped but stayed on his feet and didn't get the penalty.

And he took his leg! It was a soft body challenge but the fact is he stuck his leg out and took Suarez out. It's a foul in any one's book, people seem to be putting alot of emphasis on the fact the ball was already getting away from both players and that the defender used his body to block Suarez, well yeah he did and that's the sort of thing that usually goes unpunished, but he also took his leg, which is a foul!

Exactly Mark. It's a typical demento instigated media witchhunt where the usual AF sycophants fall into the line he draws. I see that fat beardy blert Martin Samuel as been saying Terry is pretty much innocent of racism (but actually visual evidence) whereas there must be something in the Evra claim (er......, feck all evidence). It's bullsh1t but let the media pipe on all they like. We learnt a long time ago not to pay credence to the shamefully low level of "journalism" in this country. Problem is do the refereeing learn to ignore it because I don't think Suarez got a free kick given against him against Norwich - first game after whiskey nose's "diving" jibe.

Same Scharner who was promoting £10 shirt ( at least half goes to Charity) on Skysports Saturday.
Ultimate journeyman footballer jumps on bandwagon...

I was pretty critical of Suarez after the Norwich game, but I dont really understand any of this. It was a blatant trip, not just a bit 'oh im not sure' it was a clear penalty, the lad took his leg clear as day.
Ive argued long and hard with posters on here when they have claimed a decision that i dont think we deserved (red tints and all) I always call them as i see them and this was a bang on Penalty and I dont know why there is even a debate.

The commentator in the studio (can't remember who it was there sitting next to Southgate) said he had reservations regarding the *process* through which the penalty was awarded.
He kept saying that the ref had already turned his his back and was heading away from the WBA penalty area when the linesman signaled for a penalty. He then said that this should only be done if the linesman was 100% sure it was a penalty.

Well, I thought the linesman was 100% sure it was a penalty, so what's the problem?

an absolute stone wall penalty. I admit I was surprised it was given but it's definately a foul. dive? the guy steps across him to block him off.

The commentator in question tried to back himself up by saying the linesman "couldn't have been sure it was a penalty from that position", which of course is @rsewipe. Incidentally, props to the lino for that decision. Mason's a sh!t ref, by the way.

Adam got clattered like that the week before and, amazingly, he got a free kick given against him. But I couldn't understand how there was any doubt about the Suarez one. Only the ref and idiot commentator Jon Champion seemed to be unconvinced.

the espn pundit (no idea who it was) said it was a definately penalty and applauded the lineman for over ruling the ref who has ignored the (blatant) foul and was jogging away.

Its sick and its all Fergusons fault.....Ferguson opens his mouth about Suarez and within a week the whole press jump on Suarezs back. Ive gone from hearing commentators and reading journos drooling all over him, to all of them saying he goes down to easy or he's always diving. Even Chris fucking Waddle on saturday was at it. He's one of the best players in the league and he'll be off if he's continued to be made a villain of. Three or four years ago if ANY manager in the league had insinuated that Cristiano Ronaldo was constantly diving (even though the cunt was) whiskey nose wouldve exploded! And while we're on the subject on saturdays peno, QPRs peno against Chelsea the previous sunday was given for a similar but softer challenge by that bird brain David Luis.....but that wouldnt suit the presses new vendetta again Suarez to mention that now would it.

I happened to Crouch when he was with us. Suddenly refs decided that he was trying to win fouls for nothing, so then defenders were left free to batter into him every time he tried to holdup the ball. It's ridiculous.

when who was with us? and how did you see him if you were crouching?

I am not deluded enough to think that there is a media wide agenda against us but perhaps I am wrong.

Ever since Fergie started talking to the Beeb again, they have been falling over backward to repeat his every word as gospel

to be fair to the ref (who was jogging away) I didn't make a big deal of the foul (when it was commited) and I was actually surprised when the linesman started waving. were our players appealing before the linesman started waving his flag. I'll have to rewatch the players reaction to the foul.

IMO the clue's in your second sentence. I think it's less of an agenda against us than an agenda to suck up to Ginsoak and his team. My guess is it stems partly from the incredible psychological stranglehold which the old git has built up through the years, by dint of sheer nastiness and aggression, over far too many people involved in/associated with the game. In the case of Sky there may be other causes as well, not unrelated to the size of Murdoch's investment in ManUre.
