Pacheco

Great little goal. It looked like he would get a decent chance at the start of the season and I would like him to come back into the fold. Surely he is better than The Cake.

I'd like to see if him and Torres could form a partnership.

Give them a run of games. Plus, they can chat in Spanish and most oppo defenders wouldnt have a clue.

Liverpool are ready to reduce their wage bill in January with Daniel Pacheco, the 19-year-old Spaniard considered one of the Barcelona academy's rising stars when he signed three years ago, among those manager Roy Hodgson may be prepared to lose.

The failure to maintain academy players' development between 16 and 19 has been a recurrent theme at Liverpool in recent years and Pacheco has remained inconsistent. There is considerable interest in him from Spain – including Malaga and Espanyol – and Hodgson has made it clear that the striker missed a major opportunity to impress in Liverpool's Carling Cup defeat to Northampton Town in September. Hodgson said: "He featured in that unfortunate Northampton game and it's a fact of life that it was a great opportunity for those outside the first 13 or 14 to really show me, 'You should be thinking of me'."

There is also uncertainty about the Anfield futures of defender Daniel Agger, whose calf injury continues to worry medical staff, and Ryan Babel, who claimed bizarrely on Twitter yesterday that assistant manager Sammy Lee had ordered him to stop practising during the Benitez era. Babel, whom Malaga are also tracking, wrote: "I wasn't allowed to train extra under our former manager, even when I wasn't involved. I even tried to train extra by doing it secretly, but the assistant manager came to tell me to stop."

Dr Peter Brukner, Liverpool's head of sports science, said Agger's injury, sustained by a kick to the calf on international duty, had caused calcification to a blood clot. The Dane could be a target for a Bundesliga club.

cant imagine that getting rid of Dani will make much of a dent in the wage bill, Babel and Agger on the other hand would definately be amongst those who have to be considered a really poor return on investment

Agreed, but it's obvious the wage bill has nothing to do with this.

(If true)

probably not, he does seem to be one of those players who, and im not sure whether its his agent or what, has constantly got stories in the press saying he is considering his future or that there are clubs eager to take him back to Spain. Perhaps he has decided to move on in search of first team opportunities because realisticaly this had to be the season for him to break through here and it just doesnt look like its going to happen for one reason or another

Talk of Pacheco leaving is bollocks but roy isnt giving him any chances. It would be a travesty of justice.

I just want Roy sacked. He was part of the unfortunate game against Northampton. Who says things like that?!?!?!

Fuck off you old hag.

I wouldn't call it nonsense as Kelly and Shelvey at least have been played quite a lot. Maybe he was forced to do it but still.

It hasn't been the easiest environment to start blooding in youngsters either with the team struggling so badly.

Well he wasn't forced to put Shelvey and Spearing on against he champions, and Ecclestone has figured quite a bit too.

didn't realise that ecclestone, shelvey, kelly, spearing aren't around the first team near enough weekly. My mistake

Yep. Who else do we really even have that should have got more chances this season? I can only think of Pacheco but we don't know what's really gone on for him to piss off Roy.

my point is that i disagree with those who were saying that he's any better than benitez in this regard - imo he's considerably worse. the EL appearances are a mirage because we've not had that chance since 2003: he's never have done it in the CL, and who could blame him.

kelly's made 2 league appearances this season, spearing 1, pacheco 1. i guess he deserves a bit of credit for shelvey, since he's got a bit more times than might have been expected. but, honestly, you'll rarely get a more glaring opportunity at a big club to blood youngsters than we've had with kelly and pacheco this season: injuries and lack of form have opened the way, and still he's ignored them.

Shelvey got a whooping 7 mins against WH, when we were 3-0 up at half time. Great!!

Roy has a terrible record with giving youngsters a chance, and his Fuham squad had one of the highest average age in the league.

He certainly favours English youth though. Seems to be something in what Mavinga said at the start of the season. Ecclestone over Pacheco is insane tbh.

Wilson has also featured so little it's embarresing.

Why do people keep on with this shit?. We all know that Roy DOES give the youngsters their fair share of playing time. The evidence is clearly there that he does.

What those of us are complaining about with regard to Pacheco is that he is one youngster who is NOT being given a chance. Twelve matches have come and gone since the Northampton fiasco and he hasnt even made the squad.

Im not even sure if he is that good, but I sure as hell would like to see him given the chance to show us, one way or the other.

If Hodgson said those thing about Pacheco in relation to the Northampton match well its very disappointing but not surprising.

Kelly, Spearing, Shelvey and Eccleson also featured in that fiasco but it didnt stop him giving them another chance

According to the Mirror he has been told to leave the club come January alongside Jovanovic and Babel to free cash and space for new players.

That's incredibly daft as Pacheco has certainly been coming of age of late.

If there are any of our youngsters that should be in contention of a starting place it's;

Kelly
Shelvey
Pacheco
Wilson

2 has featured. One of them played out of postion 90% of the time. Shelvey on the wing, thats almost as stupid as playing someone like Meireles on the wing. Oh...

Ecclestone has nothing to offer our first team. It's tough but true.

How reliable the Mirror is? That would be daft indeed.

I agree re: ecclestone, but it's harsh to say wilson should be in competing for starting berth when we have 4 cbs in front of him. We've been shaky and the back and blooding a young lad like that could destroy his confidence. He should play in europa however. As for shelvey and mereiles, i think the offical line (for mereiles anyway) was so that he could adapt to the premier league in a position of less importance, so that when he moves back to his proper position hes used to the pace and power of the league. Perhaps roy is implementing the same with shelvey?

Maybe so, but you play players were they are used to playing and in what is their natural position.

The Meireles case is just Roy not having a clue were to play him. Poulsen and Lucas centrally and Meireles out right. It's a tactical move no one else would have considered.

As for Wilson. Agger has been injured for most part of the season, and Wilson should have played in a lot of the Europa leauge mathces. He is ready for that, no doubt.

And when he got his debut, he was pushed out left instead of being played in his natural position.

Seems to be a recurring thing this player out of position thingy.

only defence i can offer for the young lads being player out of position is the one i said, about adapting to the pace and power of the league. I disagree with the premise myself, but can understand how it could be useful.

If that's true it's beyond daft.

Hopefully it isn't though.

Maybe he's just not good enough?

Surely if he was thaaaat good he'd be playing for our first team or someone elses first team by now.

Noones really come out and said "pacheco is shit hot, give him 12 months" have they?

If he's that good at 19/20 surely he'd be filtering through especially given just how shite our squad is/average our first team is.
