I'm still very underwhelmed by Pacheco, but I'm happy to keep him for a while yet.

+1

(And who knows? Perhaps the new manager will get more out of him :🙂)

I have a feeling that after a bit of a run in the side just getting used to the pace/physicality of the premiership it will just click and we'll start to see the dynamic performances he has been giving previously at reserve level

At the moment all I see a small, lightweight kid who struggles to get into games, but seems to be almost fiercely defended by some fans which I find very strange.

Technically he is quite good and he passes the ball quickly and sharply, which are the positives. But I'm clutching at straws, TBH. Unless he can learn to play from wide I will really struggle to see how he will ever fit into the English game.

Depressingly I fear he maybe he's just a young Joe Cole, but not as good.

Only if he's played behind the striker. Which won't happen I'm afraid.

He's no more a 4-4-2 right midfielder than I am, or Kuyt for that matter.

I don't see him making it. He looks like a guy who is too good for the reserves but not good enough for the first team.

In fairness we have quite a few players playing for us now that fit that description.

Yeah we do, with Pacheco though physically he just doesn't look cut out for it. The others generally are physically capable but either talentless / braindead

Cue Dantes popping up in order to claim he has an advantage because he will win lots of freekicks.

don't blame me. if hodgson continues with his long ball stupidness the only thing our strikers will do is concede free kicks

And Jee Jones, John Newby, Richie Partridge, John Welsh, Paul Anderson, Paul Hamill, David Thompson, Robbie Threlfall, Jay Spearing, Craig Lindfield, and one billion fucking others.

The way people were going on last week, he was the new Messiah and Hodgson was the devil incarnate for holding back a prodigious talent.

Pacheco still needs games to get used to the jump from reserves to true competitive matches. Like insua before him, we can only judge him when he's had a run and been consistently shite

Just did an interview with Guillium Ballarog, and said that he sees his future here, but wants to leave on loan in january.

Comolli has told him and Kelly that they are very important players for the future.

Pacheco should go on loan to get playing time. It will help his development to be playing week in and out.

Choosing the right team will be important.

I fully agree with this, but I think a loan move would be hugely beneficial for everyone. In a similar way Jack Wilshere's stint at Bolton last year got him used to the Premier League.

Ideally on loan at a team who play football rather than hoofball. Bolton would be nice this year

Fuck me remember when Ged gave Jon Welsh a baptism of fire against Arsenal? Crazy stuff.

The Plesssisaur got one too. raaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrr

Yep. Hard to believe he started with Gerrard in the middle of the park on the first day of the season two years ago. Poor Xabi was on the bench.

I'd like to see him go on loan abroad ... where managers understand the importance of a playmaker and how to develop one.

In Britain there are very few sides who use a playmaker - Arsenal and Nasri is one that springs to mind... abroad, playmakers are more abundent so there is so much more he can learn and use to develop his game.

English league can produce strikers, midfielders and defenders ... but for me it fails when it comes to developing sweepers, defensive mids, and attacking mids - the positions which require the most technical quality and tactical understanding.

“I’m delighted to have signed a new deal. I’m being sincere when I say that I see my future here, I’d like it to be so; but in order to get some playing time, and if it suits the club, the best thing would be for me to go out on loan.â€

“I had talks with Damien Comolli when signing a new contract and he told me that young players like myself and Martin Kelly are central to his vision for the club.â€

“I’m training well and Roy Hodgson is happy with me; he’s seen what I can do in the Europa League. However, we will have to see how things stand in January and if the club are in agreement, then a loan move might be best for everyone,†said the Liverpool forward.

it seemed to be accepted that we were looking to develop Pacheco as a wide player under Roy.

Do we think this will continue or he'll be used more so through the middle now with Kenny in charge?

I guess his best chance is to be comfortable everywhere, and he wouldn't be the first player ever to be used out of position. I like players who are competent in all of the three positions just behind Fernando.
