One to watch: Christian Eriksen

Ironically, it might be a better time for us to sign him now after he's had a crap tournament and might have cast a few doubts in the minds of some managers, rather than waiting until he's impressing again

That's true as far as it goes, but you'd have to be very sure indeed that he's a true gem just waiting to be polished, and I can't help feeling there's a coded message in those words from big Jan along the lines of: "Overrated, at the moment anyway - not a Liverpool player at this stage".

Definitely, although is Jan basing that opinion on his form at this tournament? If so, then you'd reject the chance to sign Ronaldo!

From what I've seen, his form at Ajax has been very good and my worry is that we aren't, or won't be, in a position to sign him once he is ready to leave Ajax. Of course, the danger is that he never reaches that top level, but we will need to take that gamble with all our signings as we simply cannot afford or compete for finished articles.

I agree. I just wish we had the barest glimpse of the much heralded player. He has done absolutely nothing in this tournament so far.

And he still won't be cheap, even if there isn't the scrum of teams looking for his signature that you'd expect if he had a stellar tournament.

We already have "false nine", now Eriksen has perfected the "invisible #10". Let's see if he starts casting shadow today.

I don't agree with Big Jan here. I simply don't believe he's seen enough of him really to comment otherwise you would know he's got all the quality in the world. A poor tournament after his biggest Season so far with Ajax doesn't change that fact.

We should buy him sooner rather than later as he'll be out of reach in a few Seasons if not already.

So how good was Erikson tonight? And how did nice but dim Babel play?
Eriksen was excellent in a more advanced role in the second half,he was a willing runner all evening and used the ball brilliantly at times.

Babel was actually decent on the left and gave Richards a lot to think about but with little end product of course.

If and ever if we get Erickson, he will become a Henderson, Borini and Assaidi for us....

I think I'm starting to climb on the Eriksen bandwagon. Little by little.
Always room for one more mate.

He was at times outstanding last night. At one point you could even see the envy in Mancini's eyes when he watched him knock the ball around Citeh players for fun. Citeh have placed big bids for him, invited him to Mancini's Italian Summerhouse and then bid for him some more and he've rejected every single approach they've made. And last night he tore them a new one, you gotta love that kid.

PS He's still topping the 'ground covered' table in this years Champions League running more than 39 km in his first three games. Number two is someone from BATE and 3rd is Juve's Marchiso on 37 km.

He won't go to Citeh mate, don't you read my posts?

*pinches Jimmy's cheek in a friendly manner*

I have to admit you are right. I read some of yours (and others') but I really can't find the time to read all the posts 🙂
Can you point me to the relevant post?

Alright if Borini, Henderson.and.Assaidi.are good, when we DO get Erickson it will be fantastic.
Sorted.

Story tomorrow about Ajax expecting a bid from us in January and that they'll sell for 30 mill €.

KHL just jizzed all over his computer.

I like Eriksen a lot, but that's a massive amount of money and on a position we're not all that desperate in. Unless we can get both, we should really consider spending on a striker rather than Eriksen.

I sort of agree as our team most definitely needs a striker now right now.
But if we are truly planning for a couple of seasons time we shouldn't pass up the opportunity to sign up the best talent available, if it comes around.
Both would be most excellent, as Bill might say.

Absolutely true. If he's confident we can get a striker in the Summer and regardless of where we finish, he'll still have a job, getting available players would be good. Walcott and Eriksen would work this summer.
