I must admit I had lost faith in the young man from Brazil, but this season the boy has been good. Oposition managers and members of the press have been saying the kid has been outstanding this season. My only worry is if he has one bad game then people will be straight on his back and he may loose the confidence you can see him gradually building. Watchin him play this season has been pretty good he seems to be getting the simply things right and is now willing to get stuck in.

I think the biggest indicator that he is having a good season so far is that I haven't seen any threads this season slating him.

Well in lad, keep it up.

He's done ok. I'm more interested if the corner has been turned for Babel.
I would like to think so, but we have seen this so many times with him. I really want him to succed but he just blow so hot and cold.

Babel seems to be on fire at the moment.
Hopefully it will continue and he'll get a well deserved start against Fiorentina.

It still astounds me that there are people out there who can't see that Lucas is a good player.
He's playing very effectively. He definately needed a run of games.
Now that he has that and hes a proper part of the team (even keeping Mascherano out of home games) he needs to kick on and try to influence the game more and maybe be more expansive in his thinking.
That said hes been as effective and consistent as anyone and has earned his place in the first team. I wonder what will happen when Aquilani is fit.

Goods generous, Im not going to lavish praise on a player who isnt contributing "that" much.

He is massively OK!

Exactly.

He is doing fine as we are winning. When we are drawing games and he still adds nothing going forward the finger will be pointed.

He needs to do more going forward for me.

He has done ok up until now this season, nothing more nothing less.

Did you watch his role on Saturday? The setup was designed so that Gerrard could push forward from centre-midfield, which he did (to the extent that it left Lucas stranded once or twice), but anyway - when we play like that - he can't go forward.

I'm sure Rafa hopes so as he needs a replacement for Mascher next summer.

he's like the invisible man. even against relegation fodder he's average. he'll never be good enough to be anything other than a squad filler in a team with ambitions such as ours.

at least he's not cost us too many points yet this season, that own goal imo cost us that game earlier this season.

as for lucas being a replacement for masch?

The next time we lose a game, he'll get the blame. Whether its his fault or not.

Coming from a "previous defendent" of the Lucas, he has been at best decent this season, nothing more, nothing less. He's done what's asked of him and kept the ball moving against lowly opposition at Anfield, but still been largely invisible against anyone decent.

There is a talented footballer hiding in there somewhere, but he needs to exert himself in games more, and show more confidence in stepping out of his shell and imposing his game on the opposition. At the moment, there are a number of footballers from even the lower reaches of the league who could step into his place and not perform any worse, there hasn't been anything out of the ordinary to suggest he's anything like a consistent long-term solution in the centre.

don't bees "buzz" ?

Is the underlying opinion here that he's been ace? Cos I've been watching a different player then. He's been average, he's not been shite this season like he was last, been he's not been upto Torres, Gerrard, Johnson, Benayoun's standard of performances this season by a million miles.

I don't think there is one single underlying opinion about him, aside from the fact that everyone agrees he's playing better than he did last season. It would have been interesting to do a poll, but we don't want too many threads on this one topic.

Yes and his positioning was all over the place he was a walking disaster first half, he was fine second half when all pressure from Hull was gone.

That is not what his job is to do though. You could level the same accusation at Mascherano. Lucas is instructed to sit in front of back 4 and disrupt opposition play, and from what I have seen this season he has done that very well.

Well he's keeping Masch out the team at the moment.

Who has said he's been outstanding this season?
Tony Pullis and Martin sammual on that footy show on sky. His own captain.

He's developed from being an ineffective little wimp into an alright Premiership player.

Good enough? Not yet, not for me. But I don't worry so much when I now see his name on the team sheet. I guess that's something. He keeps possession well and now has more confidence to get stuck in. If there's anything else to his game then I don't see it.

lucas will get an oppertunity to hold his place because I doubt rafa will just fling aqualini in at the deep end (see what I did there? 😉 ) basically whoever does worst out of masher, lucas and aqua will get dropped.

That's just one of the things they do. Frankly, it's a bit patronising of you to reduce all bee activities to THAT! >🙁
