He's not that bad - and can hold his own in a few games.

But he cannot be expected to perform at the level we need from our starting 11 week in, week out ... It's not fair to expect that from him.

[/quote]He was our best midfielder. I am as always unsuprised that he is being made the scapegoat.
Gerrard and Benayoun gave the ball away from the first minute leaving players constantly stranded up the pitch. Kuyt and Torres maintained zero possession and Aurelio kept dissappearing. Lucas did everything he could. He was dumped on.
 
He's not useless, but he's not good enough to start regularly for this team. Hopefully when Aquilani returns, we'll see him go back to being a squad player and taking part in some of the easier games.

Just a minor bump on the road and an incentive and a guide as to where the tweaking should be done ahead of the Chelski game.
It was a poor performance yes, but we have to give credit to Fiorentina for showing up and making a point that this is europe we are playing in and there are no lesser teams anymore. We'll come out of this much stronger! Bring on Chelski!!!

I big piece of adivce for lucas is once in a while turn and play a forward pass. it doesn't have to be every other pass but one pass every five should be forwards.

but hey, he's one of rafa's favourites and will no doubt start against chelsea regardless of how ineffective he is against a half decent side

I'm definitely still in the anti-Lucas camp - I can't see any positives when he plays, he loses every 50/50 tackle, he gives away stupid free kicks, his positional sense is poor, his shooting is weak, even his short passing is poor in that he regularly passes to someone nearby who is marked.

Agreed - that first half was the poorest I have ever seen from a Liverpool midfielder. Shocking how many times he lost control of the ball or gave away posession. Utter garbage, cannot be defended. There were other players on the park who performed under par, but Lucas took things to a new low for me.
Shite pure and simple.
