I wouldn't lavish too much praise on the defenders personally at the moment. Maybe they're being overexposed, but yesterday just highlighted basic errors of judgement, ie not getting tight to the best striker in the league, repeatedly giving players more than half a yard to shoot, pick a man out, move into space etc. Not good enough, either system needs to change (personally I think it does, when we lose the ball we're fucked) or we need to invest.

OK, just Suarez then. We should be due to be relegated any time now

lol. They're not terrible, but we're nowhere near what we were a few seasons ago. Johnson's having a good season, but again, slack marking from him and Agger for Vidic's goal.

Indeed. Most of them are average for this league. Which is why we're in no danger of winning anything or getting relegated.

Great > good > average > toss > shite.

Most are in the average category, a few good, one great and quite a bit of toss and shite.

I think defenders will always make mistakes Mark - it's when they make stupid mistakes that irks you - like Skrtels back pass against City etc..

The first goal wound me up more than the second yesterday. Wisdom was way to far away from his man and was slow to react and the cross was allowed in from which Van Persie scored. You stop the cross you stop the goal. Those types of goals are completely avoidable whereas ones like the second, bad marking from a set piece will always happen.

I think those player I listed are "good enough for Liverpool" although I'm not sure what that actually means any more. It should really be "good enough for where I want Liverpool to be" because good enough for the mediocrity that Liverpool have become is a cast of thousands at the moment

Henderson is decent. He also has potential to become very decent. That is all. I looked it up in the dictionary of footballers.
Henderson. J: Decent (potential to become very decent)

I think its a bit unfair on Wisdom who at a very young age has had the bollocks to come into the side in probably not his prefered position and done a half decent job, I like him and think he should be a good player for us. Van Persies movement for the goal was world class something very difficult to defend against. The second goal was terrible - not only Johnson but Stirling as well were dreaming.
However we are letting alot of these stupid goals in, and I think this is where there has to be some blame for the coaching staff. Were united - 10 points clear in the league much better than us ? I dont think so - we were tactically outdone on the day by an amazing pressing display from utd ( witness how they couldnt keep it up in the second half) which is something drilled into the players by the coaching staff. Look at that united team - how many would you say are good enough for Liverpool? Wellbeck Young Kagaya Cleverly Carrick Rafael deGea - hardly world class are they - open to debate but wouldn't really want any of them over our players. Theres no doubt in my mind we are underperforming - I hope the only way is up we really should be challenging for CL with the squad we have when you look at the squads the Arse Spurs and Everton have

In order...

Wellbeck > Borini
Young > Downing
Kagawa > Sterling
Cleverly > Henderson
Carrick > Lucas
Rafael > Wisdom
DeGea > Reina

So they'd all walk into the team.

I wouldn't have put Young in with that lot anyway, he's clearly better than any of our wide attackers.

There is a point... that the whole of the Premier League is not as good as it was a few years ago. We can tell from the results in Europe as well as just by watching.

Just googled for this... Arbeloa in 2009:

The Spain international also admitted the threat of a 50p tax rate for those earning £150,000 and over would encourage a talent drain out of the Premier League, confirming concerns made by the Arsenal manager, Arsène Wenger.
Arbeloa said: "In the last few years the Premier League has been much better than the Spanish league, but now that may even out thanks to factors that could give the Premier League more problems than in previous years, like the fall of the pound and the raise in taxes. They will make a lot of players move to Spain. Mind you, Adidas told me that the Liverpool shirt is their best seller, more so even than Madrid, so that shows that the Premier League has reached every corner of the world.

Ha ha touche. Well of course your first one should be Wellbeck and Sturridge but the point is I would put all those utd players in your average category and yet they are 7 pts clear in the league. We are underachieving

But all new Spanish contracts post 2011 are subject to the same sort of tax as us 45%. Italy tax is now more than ours and France will be 75% although this is being challenged in court. No doubt why Ronaldo is whinging about how unhappy he is!

I think Ronaldo is moaning as the changes in Spain is something like after 4 years in the country, the tax rate for foreigners sky rockets

Henderson's totally average. He can run faster than Lucas and Allen, I suppose that's something. He doesn't have 1% of Shelvey's nous.

Do me a favour. And before someone accuses me of hounding Shelvey, I just end up reacting to the misty-eyed messiah crap that's spouted on here about him. He's a decent young prospect with glaring weaknesses, not a superstar-in-the-making that many see him as despite performances.

I want him to do well, but lets get real about him.

Arbeloa can say that playing for Real Madrid but the rest of the league is pretty broke so I can't imagine the average gross wage in La Liga is anywhere near what it is in the Premiership.

Agger and Skrtel have been largely woeful all season long. Agger especially.

Agreed we have been awful defensively on a number of occasions this season.

On the topic of this thread Henderson should be in the team on form, Allen and Lucas are dreadful at the moment, Allen in particular is getting worse as the season goes on, the confidence is draining out of him. You could make the same argument in favour of Shelvey, currently hes a better option than the two players in front of him but I very much doubt we will be seeing a Gerrard Shelvey Henderson midfield any time soon.

Rodgers will give Allen and Lucas the chance to play themselves into form just as he did when Stevie was stinging the place out earlier in the season

So, let's go back to the definition of great.

That goal isn't an indicator of great. He scores those 9/10 then he's great

That was a wonder strike but near enough every other time he'd fluff it

9/10 times he wouldn't be in that position, which is his own fault at times.

I don't think he can be faulted for lack of technical skill.

Hes jack of all trades and master of none. Solid passer, solid pace, solid finishing ability, solid technique

but 9/10 that shot would be saved or missed. As it would be for most players. Its not a criticism, but he is by no means great

Ha, I believe he's got everything else to become a very good midfielder for this club. Great attitude, hard-working, technically able, keeps the ball well. As his confidence grows his footballing abilities will become more apparent to the doubters.

I've always though he had the ability, but he didn't have the balls. Thankfully he seems to have remembered he has some and hes putting in a good few good performances

Honestly I was hoping the get some likes from bumping this thread, so I am a little disappointed. However Henderson has been our best midfielder bar maybe Gerrard in the last few weeks and he deserves that goal.

Dear Jr.Windever,

Not the most glowing of reports, considering our midfield has been fucking gash for 3 months.
