Gylfi Sigurdsson

I don't know how Sneijder makes it into that list - completely different type of player unless he's changed his whole game in the last 12 months.

We do need the Silva type player - hope we don't end up with someone who pretends to be that player like Mata. I know some Chav supporters think he's a great little player whereas I reckon he's more like Smicer; all the skill in the world but not able to demonstrate it in the epl.

Kagawa would be fantastic or even Kaka though he's surely not the type for FSG. Kagawa and Stevie as the front two of a midfield 3 would be outstanding.

I don't think Sigurdsson is the right player for that role.

For our transfer targets this season:

  • If they're good they'll sign for someone better than us in this league.
  • If they're ok they'll sign for someone in Germany for €4m and then get sold to someone better than us in our league next season for loads if they're any good.
  • If they're shit we might get them.

Don't be so negative, plenty of time left in the transfer window to be hopeful

I'm quite positive. I reckon Rodgers pass and move football is far more interesting than trying to sign the latest cunthole who'll want 200 grand a week and fuck off the minute Citeh offer him more. I mean it's not as if Barca went out and bought all those players. They made most of them. That's what we used to do and that's what we need to do again. Any other kind of success doesn't mean anything anyway.

I've just watched Spain play live twice in a week in a great new stadium with awesome amenities, the atmos turned up to 11 and I feel like I've been asleep for a hundred years. I'm not moaning I'm just saying. Some people made the right decisions and we fucked it up. Rodgers at least seems to get this.

I'm not really sure how if that applies to us. I don't think we've "made" some of our most prominent players.

Dalglish bought from Celtic
Barnes from Watford
Rushie, well OK.
Souness from Boro
McDermott from Newcastle
Kennedy, ditto
Lawro, I dunno erm.. Brighton?
Whelan from some Irish team.
Hansen, like Rushie bought very young.

"Made" players:

Sign Sigurdsson! Icelandic boss Lagerback says Gylfi is the man to re-light Liverpool's fire

“He has fantastic feet and can shoot from anywhere but he’s more of a playmaker or an offensive midfielder with good shooting ability," says one of the men who knows him best

Gylfi Sigurdsson is the player to re-ignite Liverpool’s Premier League fire.
That’s the verdict of the Iceland star delivered by his international team boss Lars Lagerback.
Brendan Rodgers is desperate to bolster his creative options at Anfield. He tried to sign Sigurdsson for Swansea after the Icelandic midfielder had enjoyed a terrific loan spell there last season.

But Rodgers’ switch to Anfield three weeks ago – and the fact Swansea hadn’t completed a club record £7million deal with Hoffenheim – has allowed the new Liverpool boss to try to persuade the 22-year-old to join him at Anfield.
And the implications of putting Sigurdsson alongside players such as Liverpool and England skipper Steven Gerrard are immense.
Lagerback said: “Gylfi had a fantastic season with Swansea and he has great quality.
“I was really impressed with what he did with Swansea and the way they played really suited him.
“He’s a fantastic player at linking play around him and together with the players in his team.
“If he has some good players around him, then I think he’s an absolutely top player – but he does need to be surrounded by quality.
“If that happens, then I think he could be a really world-class player in the right environment.” A move to Anfield would represent a remarkable turnaround for a player who not long ago found himself on loan to Crewe from Reading.

Gylfi Sigurdsson: Swansea success story

A spell at Bundesliga club Hoffenheim revived Sigurdsson’s fortunes before his stint at Swansea turned the Icelandic striker into one of European football’s hottest properties.
Lagerback knows a world-class forward when he sees one, having handed Zlatan Ibrahimovic his international debut back in 2001 and having worked closely with Sweden legend Henrik Larsson during his 10 years in charge of the national side.
Lagerback believes that it’s hard to compare Sigurdsson with either, but claims that Iceland’s wonderkid is far more than simply a goalscoring midfielder.
“We have found a role for him in the Iceland team where he can be involved as much as possible and really influence the attacking part of our game,” said Lagerback.
“He’s not really like either of them (Ibrahimovic or Larsson) but there are elements of his game that are like Zlatan – he’s not a goalscorer like Henrik was.

Liverpool have a rich tradition of goal-scoring midfielders from Ray Kennedy and Terry McDermott through to John Wark and Ronnie Whelan.
Liverpool fans spent the majority of last season looking skywards in frustration – and so the arrival of Sigurdsson could be heaven sent.

SSN saying he's in talks with us and other Premier League Clubs without actually naming them, they sure know their stuff.

I think you are missing the point Modo, apart from Dalglish they were mostly unknowns or un-fancied form unfashionable clubs, you know the type of player that we go in for now and everyone says they are shit -including you who just wants us to buy the Stella names

Gotta give me Barnes as well. An England international, played in the 86 world cup. Unknown?
Don't think so.
Still his point was that we "made" them, like Barca made Puyol, Busquets, Iniesta, Messi etc
We didnt.

I did say mostly unknown
His agent touted a video of him around Europe no one wanted him and he was from an unfashionable club

Vlad knows what I meant. We didn't have little pods full of clones like they do in Barca Labs but we got players in and gradually Liverpoolerised them.

Even if your criteria for "making" a player is success, rather than fully immersing them into the Liverpool way as Woland says, you could argue that every single one of those prominent players you've listed came from a less illustrious club, and peaked at Liverpool. Not one of them came to Liverpool as a step down. Not a single one of them went on to achieve greater things after their departure than in their stints with us.

Even in recent times, our best players have been acquired from lesser clubs, Hyypia, Hamann, Xabi, some from foreign shores, and they became Liverpool through and through. By contrast, the one player that comes to mind who came with a stellar reputation was Ince, and look how well that turned out.

Yeah, just like he 'wanted' Charlie Adam.

The arl cunt still up to the same fucking tricks to increase players prices we're linked with.

Preliminary talks started appaz, we're not happy with the asking price being hiked up because of our involvement.

Tbf its arguably not because we're involved, Swansea agreed a fee before he did well again in the PL..

The "Sunday Times" this morning claims he's said privately that he wants to come to us in order to continue working with Rodgers.

BRENDAN RODGERS is ready to snatch Gylfi Sigurdsson away from Swansea City – but he’s having to pay £8.5m to make it happen.

The new Liverpool boss is set to unveil the Iceland ace, 22, as his first signing as Anfield chief just weeks after he had helped set up a record deal to make him a Swansea player.

Sigurdsson, who starred on loan at the Liberty last term, had agreed a £6.8m move from German side Hoffenheim.

But that deal hit the buffers when mentor Rodgers quit – and Sigurdsson has made it clear he wants to join him.

Hoffenheim said over the weekend they had not received a formal bid from Liverpool and were expecting Sigurdsson to start pre-season in Germany today.

But Liverpool looked to have made their move in the last 48 hours.

Rodgers, though, will have to pay more than £1.5m than Swansea had agreed, with suggestions Huw Jenkins had negotiated a discount after already paying a loan fee last term for the midfielder.

With sources close to the player indicating a deal could happen this week, Sigurdsson is still due to speak to new Swans boss Michael Laudrup.

But it is likely to be a mere formality, with Swansea accepting the deal was in doubt the moment Rodgers quit.

Swansea will now turn their attentions to other targets, with new man Laudrup – set to be introduced to the media this week – handed a transfer budget of as much as £15m.

But a move for Steven Caulker must be put on hold, with the Spurs centre-back keen to see who replaces Harry Redknapp at White Hart Lane.

A confusing transfer saga remains up in the air, though, and Hoffenheim have allowed the 22-year-old midfielder to take a 'prolonged holiday' in an effort to put an agreement in place.

A statement released by the German outfit read: "Gylfi Sigurdsson will not be with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim for the start of pre-season. He has, after consultation, obtained a prolonged holiday until 30th June.

"The club wants the 22-year-old to continue to secure a future in the Premier League."

Hoffenheim head coach Markus Babbel added: "Gylfi wants to stay in England and is in negotiations there. Thus, it makes no sense for both sides for him to return to Hoffenheim, perhaps only for a few days."

Babbel has, however, made it clear that Sigurdsson will be expected back in Germany if no deal is arranged before the end of June.

He said: "If, by the deadline on 30th June, he has done nothing, then he is here and will return to his pre-season with us. We have agreed this with him."
