Is Omar Marmoush number nine? If he is a true nine, then he definitely deserves to be part of the conversation, especially as one of the more affordable options available. That said, my main concern is how recent his improvement in productivity has been. I’m always wary of signing attackers from Germany—the games are far more open compared to the Premier League, and the defences aren’t much better than those in the Dutch league. Wout Weghorst is a prime example: he scored 60 goals in 120 games in Germany but managed only 2 in 37 Premier League appearances. It’s an extreme case, but it highlights the risk. For Bundesliga attackers to succeed here, they need to be head and shoulders above other players in the league. If Marmoush can sustain his current output through the second half of the season, then I’d be open to a move. At least then we’d have two years of data to assess, rather than just one season like we did with Darwin Núñez, which goes someway to mitigate the risk.
