Adam Johnson

Ha, exactly! Bale had the marginally better season (and Johnson played a lot less due to injury) stats wise.

Johnson is the more skilful and talented player.

Johnson isn't fit to lace Bale's boots in my view.

What exactly is Johnson good at it apart from the odd stepover and piece of skill.

Bale is quicker, stronger, has a better delivery, is more of a goalthreat and generally shits all over Johnson in all aspects.

Each to their own i suppose.

Re: Re: Adam Johnson

Joking aside they are both as good as each other, but Johnson will suffer if he doesn't start consistently.

Neither will ever be as good as robben however

Does anyone really believe that Citeh will sell him to us, or any other Top 4/6 rival ?
[/quote]

I mentioned this a few weeks ago - their options are limited as Johnson himself is highly unlikely to accept a transfer to a Villa or Sunderland or Newcastle (even if any of them could afford him), keep a very unhappy player whose career is nosediving and whose value will drop accordingly, sell him to a European club (again - would he want to go and could they afford him) ..... or sell him to Liverpool, Spurs or Arsenal.

Tough choices but I reckon they are arrogant enough to take the money and believe that they can buy a better team anyway.

But What happened to new owners signing great talent. We're back to taking castoffs from city, arsenal etc. I really hope all the good business is going on behind closed doors because the business on the patio is grim to look at

We're back to taking castoffs from City, Arsenal etc based on what exactly? The rumours thread on an internet site? Precisely who are the last castoffs we took from these clubs if, as you say, we are back to doing such a thing?

That's what I am getting at Wilko, if you reread my posting - hopefully the "good business" aka good signings are going on behind closed doors because that we are seeing on the Internet sites isn't pleasing. And like it or not, every signing that has happened was usually initially a rumor in these places first.

As for castoffs we've vied for from rivals - Joe Cole, Gabriel Heinze, Jermaine Pennant, Bolo Zenden, Glenjo, Anelka (not minding that one) come to mind off hand as well as Ince. And we may have tried for others like stephen ireland. Historically we'd have signed more if the other clubs we would have complied. I hope we've moved on.

Pennant came from Birmingham, Zenden from Middlesborough, Glenjo from Portsmouth, and Anelka from PSG. I don't think they can be considered 'rivals'. Not great examples. I don't think we've ever got into such a habit anyway.

Why do we care if we get cast-offs?

If these players are promising and can add something to the side it really doesn't matter; every single player who's done badly in a club and subsequently gone somewhere else and then performed well would be classed as a 'cast-off'. It can be a very effective method at getting good value for quality players.

Without trawling through this thread, why are we all talking so much about Johnson? I've seen no mention about him in the media and all the talk is that we are after Downing.

Anyway, I reckon Mancini quite rates Johnson so cant really see him selling.

Joe Cole is the only one I can think of.

Certainly they came from other clubs but originally were let go from our rivals. Definitely value avvy, but wasn't that rafa's complaint - you can't build a club with an over emphasis on value. I just think we can do better than these players.

Re: Re: Adam Johnson

So barca should be roundly mocked for buying a player off united for a pittance? Or chelsea for buying an arsenal AND Liverpool cast off? Good Players are just that, regardless of who they played for

Anelka isnt a cast off though is he? He pretty much forced his way out of Arsenal for the money to go to Madrid. A cast off would generally be conceived as one who left a club as he was no longer required! We really should have held on to him so I dont know if he could be classed as a liverpool cast off!

Exactly, Robben and Sneijder is a good example...so is Luis Garcia to a lesser extent of course.

Of course it is, but it's inferred that they are fairly naff - with the exception of Nic, all of the players listed above were subpar players plodders who added little. It's these types of players I am leery of..

Jesus lads of course, but anyone can see they're better than pennant, zenden et al

I thought you were going to enlighten us on all these cast offs we've been lumbered with from Arsenal and City? Michael Thomas perhaps?
