Lee Mason is a truly awful ref. I've noticed what he does every match: he spends the first ten minutes working out what he thinks of certain players - if they're honest, dishonest, dirty or decent - then he acts accordingly. If he rates you, you might as well do whatever you want because he'll excuse it, whereas if he doesn't rate you, you could be beaten up without him so much as giving you a free kick. He doesn't judge the incident he judges the characters involved. it allows him to sleepwalk through a game whilst remaining outrageously confident about his judgements. He's really outrageously bad.

How do you dickheads get repeatedly wound up by Modo?

He's stated on numerous occasions that he talks garbage to wind people up and yet you try and apply logic to his bullshit.

Weirdos.
It's like people who call up Adrian Durham to argue with him.

A completely futile waste of money & time that instantly means he wins when you type those numbers in.

Carra being the only exception to that rule, although if he'd have knocked him out I'd have had more respect.

Still waiting for someone to tell me what he did apart from the "wonder strike"
Stuff, is not a valid answer.

I say this a lot, but when Lallana plays, stuff happens.

Everytime I see him play for us or England he seems to create something or score. He had double figures in goals and assists in the Premier League last season, and we paid 26M for him - Why not fucking play him more often?

The same really has to be said about Lambert, in the four games he's started in a row, he's scored 2 goals and assisted 2 goals, by anyone's standards that's a good return.

What would be the point, exactly? It's not going to change your opinion of him is it? What Lallana does or doesn't do is irrelevant because you've already made up your mind about him.

I just want to know, because obviously I supposedly missed a superb performance from him.
If someone told me that Stuff happens when Sterling has the ball I'd agree.

Lallana did more than Coutinho against Stoke

That's good enough for me

Oh, and Modo's great, the forum needs a little spice, even if it is vanilla, but please god lets not turn this thread into a thread talking about how we should act towards Modo.

I really should post from the last page of a thread, ha. Lallana had a good game, he definitely tired early though, so the sub was right, he's also guilty of missing a few obvious passes. I'd much rather the question was how to fit both Coutinho and Lallana in the team, not which one.

Lallana is a great signing. Lovely player to watch. Like Kenny and Beardo, he can put the weight on his toes as he slips through gaps in a defence, there's a fine balance about him that's invaluable, and he's bright. He's a regular starter as far as I'm concerned.

Just as an aside from that - I heard a story that Carra once knocked some guy out outside his kids school. I can't remember what it was about exactly but it was a pretty funny story. Any of you fellas know what I'm on about?

Modo is just like one of my mates, when he has something in his head he won't stop until everyone wants to strangle him but he's sound otherwise.

You watched the Match. If you still didn't see it then there is no point in anyone explaining because it obviously went over your head 😉

Ming 4; words almost fail me on Ming now - it's like he's trying to find new ways to wind supporters up about the fact he's sure there's nobody else who can take his place. A goal scorer is so important in January but I'd just about sacrifice that and hope to hell Sturridge gets new legs if it means we can buy Cech (or a keeper of similar capability). Essential.

Johnson 6; Torn on him in this one. He pressured well and was pretty much never caught out of position. However, unlike against Stoke where he raped them down the right several times, he offered almost nothing going forward with possibly one exception.

Skrtel 6.5; Would have been a 5 on the first half. Thought he could have done better to cover up for Ming - which he must just expect to do by now. Went off his feet several times but got the ball on each occasion except one. Second half he was stronger and I thought he well and truly won his personal battle.

Toure 7; So much better performed than Lovren it's amazing. Doesn't need to claim to be a leader cause he is one. A couple of hairy moments and I thought he, too, should have done better in the lead up to the goal. Otherwise he was good and looks impossible to drop right now.

Manquillo 6; Not his best effort - looked tired and very ineffective going forward. Wasn't exactly up against anyone special but still looked uncertain quite regularly. Got a 6 cause I'm assuming he was injured.

Moreno 5.5; I could have this wrong but I thought he was really average. Lost count of the number of times Gerrard, Toure, Lucas and even Hendo looked around in bewilderment to find out why their right wing was in an acre of space just outside our penalty area. Even Lambert went tearing out there on one occasion to close him down cause Moreno was AWOL. Since his goal he's gone backwards - don't get it at all.

Lucas 7.5; First half was the most dominant DM performance we've had all season. Doesn't say a lot but it was great. He was everywhere, stopped them cold or disrupted them constantly. Got nailed for a couple of phantom tackles which Mason managed to award a free kick for while somehow missing the headlocks and knee capping going on up the other end. Got the ball moving quickly - similarly to Allen in that respect - and all round was very good all game.

Henderson 5; Simply a terribly average performance. He scored but it actually took 12 minutes for me to realize he was on the pitch. Ran quite a bit doing nothing, couldn't find support, looked cumbersome but has now scored 2 in 3 games. Thought his performance was summed up in the 2nd half when he went for a volley cross/shot from the junction of the penalty area and the by-line. It was Sunday league stuff but then popped up with a goal.

Lallana 7; Thought he was very good in the first half. As Ryan says he makes things happen. Great feet out on the right in crowded situations saw us constantly getting through with the ball. Goal was individual brilliance - showed great anticipation, made the run and took it so cleanly which really is a characteristic of his efforts. He hits it with such timing it really can surprise people. Tired or went missing very obviously from the 55 to 60 minute mark and I thought he needed to go off then. One thing annoyed me - obvious through ball for Sterling would have caught them cold and had Raheem one on one with nobody close. He just stood there, didn't play it then stood there for longer before knocking it out wide. It annoyed me cause that's the second time in two games where he's missed such an obvious one. Otherwise he was good and, quite simply, has been one of the few bright points for us over the last 3 months.

Gerrard 7; Thought he was well out of the game for much of the first half but was noticeably geeing up the players after they scored. Took his goal beautifully, was giving Mason a torrid time (rightly so) over Sterling's treatment and was making it a point of encouraging the kid when he looked to be getting frustrated with the attention. Still think he should have potted it past the keeper in his one on one but also thought it was a pen and would have been given on the other 99 occasions.

Sterling 8; Got my MOM on the basis of his assist for Henderson. Ran his socks off all game, took Gerrard's encouragement to heart and never stopped. Tried a couple of wasteful efforts but he didn't have a great deal else to choose from. Looked like he was going to get a goal himself just when it seemed he was destined to be frustrated all match. In the end he set up Henderson for a goal which, lets face it, with the form Henderson is in takes some doing. Hope we tie him down to a ten year contract.

Lambert 7; The haters can bugger off as far as I'm concerned. He worked his guts out against two powerful CB's with no help from a Ref who obviously thought he was at a wrestling match. Despite this and some fatigue he never stopped running which is one of those things that comes when you simply love the club. Got a reward with the sending off and deserves credit for it. Suarez used to get lauded for simply never stopping and reaping benefits for it in strange ways. Lambert wore them down, constantly protected the ball and worked as hard up our end as he did there's. As a third choice striker for 4m he's been great for us.

Two wins on the bounce. Need a third against Sunderland to have us rolling when the Swiss get to Anfield. If we can get that and somehow get past Basle we'll be ready for a tough run but also, hopefully, close to a Sturridge return.

I didn't watch the match but it felt like I have after reading this so cheers for that.

So Gerrard still has the 'legs' to play further up the pitch and we do need a DM - who'd have thunked it!
Rodgers reinventing the wheel that we've all been moaning about since he came in. Typical Brent management style - you tell the boss you've got a great idea, he says it's bollocks, then he brings up the 'idea' a few months later, claims it as his own and tells you it's great.
We NEED a proper DM asap, and I think this will miraculously start making Lovren and Sakho etal look like great defenders again, and that then will probably make whoever we've got inbetween the sticks look good too. Lucas is a good enough makeshift until the end of the season.
Win the next one and the press will find someone else to pick on and the 'crisis' will have disappeared.

Hoping the club have a replacement/better second keeper lined for the 1st Jan along with a striker who pull defences with movement.

Ming is nervous wreck going into every game.

If Jones is unable to get into the team with Ming liking this he also needs replacing.

Lee Mason didn't know what to do with the fouling on Sterling. It was happening so often that he seemed content to just give us every second or third one regardless of the tackle. He also should have sent off their keeper and awarded a pen.

I'm glad we won (for the three points obviously) but winning seems to allow us to observe and comment on a refs performance without being accused of using it to excuse our own performance. Lee Mason was pretty poor and it deserves to be mentioned.

He just stood and looked at the most blatant fouls, did his usual stupid sneery stare and then played on. He was awful.

Its like that one I heard on the Radio City phone in a few years back, some ald cunt called up after we had got beat 2-1 somewhere

"That Michael Owen is Shite, all he does is score goals, he offers nothing else to the team"

The foul on Lambert was the worst one imho. Wasinkowiskiface grabbed him by the throat and wrestled him to the ground = nothing.

One of the worst refs ever. The fucking state of the Premier League when Mike Jones and Lee Mason are two of the refs. Insane.

There was an interesting little subplot in the match that I wondered if anyone noticed. Hendo was constantly on Lamberts case for repeatedly being offside. Around the 55 min mark he threw a complete wobbler at Lambert who had stupidly strayed over the half way line from a goal kick. The flag was immediately raised and straight away they had a free kick which would put pressure on the back four. Shoddy and lazy play. For a seasoned pro like Lambert I was surprised.

This is a fantastic and depressingly accurate observation, unfortunately people (you're average premier league fan) are starting to see Sterling as someone who goes down easily, almost diving territory, and it's clear the referee has decided that was the case last night. It was embarrassing some of shit they got away with, after 30 minutes, De Laet was probably thinking he had a free pass, how he escaped a yellow card is beyond me.

Lovely goal by Llanana. I only saw the highlights, but it sounds like finally, the dm problem may be temporarily resolved. If Lucas misses a game, what happens? Who fills in? Is Can the man? Will BR keep Gerrard out of that position. DM, keeper and striker have to be key positions come Jan, but I doubt we can afford all 3

Keeper followed by Striker are the priorities.

DM is a distant third to those two targets. Think it can wait until the summer myself - unless Lucas is leaving in January.

I think a striker should be the number one priority. As we saw last year, goals will go some way to hiding our weaknesses.
