WE HAVE NOT WON ANYTHING YET !

6 games to go and no one is talking about CL qualification. Y'know, that thing that many of you said we would have trouble achieving this season?

Just fucking enjoy it and celebrate every win. Even if we don't win the title, it's been a brilliant season and there is plenty of reason for excitement and optimism.

Banging on about how we are definitely going to win the league when we have six games to go is not just a bit mad, it's also unbecoming and smacks of an arrogance that we abhor in fans of lesser clubs. Enjoy what we are aiming for, enjoy the buzz and the football and the ride, but please leave the chest-beating gobshitery to others.

This is kinda what I think.

However I'm not following it. I've felt for a while this is our destiny this season, & I've told many many people so.

I'm singing "We're gonna win the league" at the top of my voice in the last third of almost every match.

I think the fans singing it to the players is a good thing, it fills them with self belief, confidence & the feeling that it is indeed our destiny.

That extra percentage may be the difference in the city & Chelsea matches. Fuck, even in the Palace match, who could well have a huge say in the title this year.

It is presumptive though, & it is a bit arrogant, but I just can't help myself.

Singing we're gonna win the league is fine. That's not what I mean. I mean the general smugness and arrogance I'm witnessing from lots of fans who don't actually remember what it's like to actually win it. It's almost as if people are trying to act like we've already won it to experience that thrill in case it doesn't happen. Or something.

I can't help it. I feel like this.

I think us winning the league would be a catalyst for epl domination, having said that what kind of negative impact would it have if we got this close and then still lost out to it?

IMO not that much. Brendan's whole strategy is aimed at long-term success. If anything it would be a springboard for us to try harder than ever next time around.

I'd forgotten just what a slog a championship winning season is. It gets to this end of the season and there's zero room for error. I can see it being a massive kick in the balls if they don't win it, despite them all pretending that they're not thinking about it.

I'm sure it would be. What I'm saying is that I don't think there would be lasting negative repercussions from that. There may even be the opposite.

Personally, having been a fan of a team thats not won anything for most peoples entire lives and you lot supporting a team thats promised so often and never come thorugh, i cant see why youre not massively excited.

The attitude of some on here reminds me of Dougal in the Fater Ted sketch

100%

Don't get me wrong.

I would SO CELEBRATE when we win. In fact, the excitement inside me, like any red man, is about to explode.

But because we've never been this close in donkey years, I don't want us to settle for any other place than número uno. I mean, it's really very simple. Win all our games and we are CHAMPIONS OF MOTHER ENGLAND. It's in our hands and we've never been in this position for >20 years.

So don't give me that 'oh even if we don't win, we have still overachieve' shite. I've suffered and put up with mediocrity for far too long. 20 odd bloody years. We're so used to it that we have forgotten how to feel and think like a winner. I HATE MEDIOCRITY. I HATE FALLING SHORT. I HATE BEING LABELLED 'NEARLYMEN'. I HATE TURNING FALSE CORNERS. ABSOLUTELY HATE IT. Next year, the scums will probably do a squad overhaul. The chavs will strengthen. City will continue to buy quality. And if Van Gaal manages Spurs, they will be tough opponents. And of course there's Arsenal. So we will never get a better chance than this.

So screw qualifying for the CL. I want the TITLE !!

And if jinxology can be curtailed, you damn right I will do as much as I can with the very little I have to remind everyone of the massive cockup by the Geordies under Keegan. When arrogance and overconfidence creeps in and seduce history to mock you for the rest of your lives.

So once again....calm down. One game at a time.

To paraphrase John Cleese in Clockwise: 'It's not the despair that's so hard to take, it's the hope'. When you've been through this kind of thing once or twice, you don't needlessly put your nerves through it all again.

I have spent the entire season expecting us to lose every game, and I shall continue to do so, and with a bit of luck I shall continue to be proved hopelessly wrong.

we've been close before in recent times though only to finish second, the season after we finished 7th i think. Im wavering between absurd optimism and ridiculous pessimism

Those other times (2002 and 2009) when we finished 2nd we followed it up by absurdly bad summer transfer windows though!

You're setting yourself up thinking you are being cautious.

Appreciate this season, game by game, for what it is. If there's a title at the end of it, fuck yeah, go mental. If not, you would still have had the most enjoyable season in ages and you would know that we are ahead of our development plan, with the right man at the helm, a young team, and loads of reason to be excited.

If anyone needs to calm down about our title chances, it's you.

I don't think you could be a Liverpool fan of any significance and think the title is in the bag. We've all been burnt every year for 24 years, but yah, I am going to enjoy beating every club that's a rival, 4-0 and 5-0

Look forward to clinching a Champions League place, celebrate that - because even that's ahead of schedule - and if we're still in the title chase after that, enjoy that.

Yup. So many here were saying that top 4 was the dream this season. Now that it's pretty much secure, those same posters are so busy trying not to dream of the title that they have forgotten to celebrate an already successful season.
