WE HAVE NOT WON ANYTHING YET !

I'd forgotten just what a slog a championship winning season is. It gets to this end of the season and there's zero room for error. I can see it being a massive kick in the balls if they don't win it, despite them all pretending that they're not thinking about it.
I'm still protecting myself from any potential heartache by trying to convince myself that we're still unlikely to win it. If we beat the Hammers and then City I'll have to face reality, admit we're favourites and let myself believe.....this is then gonna leave me wide open to the "massive kick in the balls" of which you speak if we are undone by Chelsea, Palace or any of the other remaining games.

I keep reminding myself that; at the start of the season we'd all have been thrilled if we were as close to a Top 4 place as we are to actually winning the thing.

Pesam, stop being a coward. Dare to believe. Join DA 😀 New members welcome.
It's strange because I'm lucky enough to remember us winning the league 11 times but this is the most nervous I've been since my first memory of us winning the league in 1976. So no I'm not ready to join Dumbledore's Army just yet, I'll be in the corner over here *points to corner* with my fingers in my ears, rocking backwards and forwards and humming YNWA.

I thought top four was a pipe dream. I honestly thought we'd be where ManUre are. So I'm delighted. But the scars of being on the Kop that night in '89, and how blasé we were about winning back then, makes me not want to get too carried away. Every victory or point is a massive bonus, the way we've played, the philosophy of the whole club is refreshing and wonderful, but this is very early in a plan. Even Rodgers is surprised how far we've come so soon. This is also the best chance we've had for so long it's making me unable to concentrate on anything else.
One game at a time. We could be second come Sunday afternoon. Or we could see Citeh or the Chavski drop points again. We could three lose. Who knows?
My head's in bits.

Pesam, that was the year I started supporting Liverpool as a 6 year old lad making my 1st foray into football. I grew up with us winning everything and took it for granted until the 90's and Souness happened to us.

Its cold in the wilderness but I BELIEVE. My belief is not borne out of desperation but is secure in the knowledge that this team is something special. They've laid down a marker and are proving it. We have that swagger about us much like we did under Rafa in Europe. Nobody would bet against us. The Spurs demolition is nothing spectacular. We have'nt been at our best for a while but keep hammering all and sundry. We have the will and have found ways to win no matter what. I'm loving it!

This Liverpool is a throwback to the days of Red domination. Its going to get better.

That's the first title I remember properly too. My old man went to Wolves that day. He came home hammered and singing and danced with me in the living room. I was 7 and a half and the next time we went to my Nan's in Liverpool he brought me a red silk Liverpool '9 times champions' scarf with white tassles. I've still got it.

Gerry I wholeheartedly agree that our team is something special and by rights we should win the league, I wouldn't swap out first 11 or 12 players with City's or Chelsea's but unlike both of those teams we have the additional burden of expectation in that we haven't won the league in so many years. The same way City nearly fucked up a very easy home game against QPR because the occasion got to them I think it COULD happen to us.

It's hard to believe that that 1976 victory against Wolves wasn't even televised and BBC radio only commentated on the second half! We needed to win or a low scoring draw to win the league and were 1-0 down with 14 minutes to go. As a 13 year old I think I experienced 4 heart attacks during that 2nd half commentary. Even when we were winning 1-2 with 5 minutes to go another Wolves goal would have given QPR the title.....and then Ray Kennedy put us all into ecstasy with the third goal in the last minute.

I'm fucking sick of all these FUCKING hysterical fucking bellends saying we've won it already NO NO NO we haven't won anything yet alright? FUCK OFF. FUCK OFF FUCK FOFF keep your fucking cool
till it's in the bag yeah celebrate then otherwise CALM THE fUck own.

Actually "my" first LFC league title was 72-73 but it was a fairly comfortable run-in I seem to remember and I don't think I was that nervous. Also I was only 9 and probably didn't full realise the significance.

I'll be 42 a few days before the Newcastle game. Dad took me to see the Reds play Dundalk in Landsdown Road in 1977 and I remember most everything since then on... Watched the best teams we've ever had beat other top, top teams for fun. I wouldn't say that I took it for granted necessarily, but I certainly grew up accustomed to success. I STILL think that the 5-0 Vs Forest is the greatest display of football I've ever seen and that Beardsley's pass to Aldo was poetic.

But I have NEVER enjoyed a season as much as I'm enjoying this one. Ever. And I've NEVER been this excited about the big games that face us...

Back in the good old days, we expected to win everything, every year. It was fun, but it wasn't new. And it certainly wasn't always pretty. Back before they outlawed the backpass, our away games were often less than exciting viewing. But this season, it's completely different, because we expected nothing more than a solid improvement and a challange to make next year's European Cup. All of this - EVERYTHING - is a surprise and it's fresh and new and there's absolutely NO pressure on us... We're not supposed to win this thing. Hell, we're barely supposed to push for top 4, so all of this is a bonus - A big, beautiful, sexy, intoxicating bonus that I'm enjoying every single fucking second of.

And the manner in which we're winning these games makes it even better... For the most part, we're not beating teams, we're battering them, swatting them aside. Spurs were beaten before they took the field yesterday. Arsenal & Everton practically so as well. We're becoming what we once were again, and we're doing it in a manner that is wonderous to behold. The team is fresh & likeable, the manager is already in top form and learning more each week, and we're the darling of the neutral. Anfield is a fortress again, and we're only going to improve as this team matures and gains even more confidence. If we add one or two decent defenders, we'll be even more formidable next season and beyond. That's the thing - This is STILL a long term vision that we've yet to attain... We're THIS good, waaaaaaay ahead of schedule. It's NEXT season and beyond that were supposed to make us dream, not this one.

That's why this year is so special. 'Cos it's so ficking ridiculous. And so utterly wonderful.

Yes, of course, it'll be the best thing ever if we hold on and win it all, but even if we don't, this has still been a brilliant, child-like experience again this season. It's been magical. 2005's European run, just every single week, instead of for just 10 games or so. And it's been so fucking exciting... My stomach has been in knots basically since we destroyed Arsenal, and it will remain so until it's over. The first thing I thought of as the final whistle blew yesterday was the West Ham match next week. I'm obsessed again. Hasn't been this way since I was a teenager.

And I fucking LOVE it. Win it or fall short, this one is special. So, enjoy it. We may never see another one like this again, because from here on in, we'll expect to challange. This one is so special because it's so fucking outrageous!

With hope in your hearts... 😉

Call me negative or whatever - do any of you actually believe we can beat Chelsea or Man City ?

I really don't think we can do it - I think that is where Brendan has come up short, and I think Jose will be leaving with 3 points because tactically I think they will come to our place with a clear purpose knowing that a knock to us through beating us will end all our title hopes. I know we are so close but when it comes to those two teams - I don't think the players will be able to deal with the pressure and they will be like no other teams that have come to our place this season. Forget the visit of ManU, Arsenal and Spurs - all three were very poor in attitude and tactics when they played us. Really fear for us.

Of course I believe we can beat Chelsea and Man City. The latter I think we should have beat earlier in the season, when we weren't playing as well.

It's a tough ask but of course we can, whether we will or not is a different question.

Brilliant post mate.

Of course we CAN. We may not, as they're both outstanding teams, but of course we can. Why do you feel we CANNOT beat teams that we were robbed of results against away from home earlier this season? Chelsea have lost away to both Villa and Palace in the past 2 weeks, but we CANNOT beat them?

Come on, lad - There's a hige difference between cautious (which most of us are) and defeatist... Also, depending on results between now and then, we may not have to win both games.

Every time we come close to winning the title - there is always one big ugly mother-f*cker waiting to screw us over. It's just that if you think about it - over Christmas we were top and these two w*nk teams were on our fixtures and we dropped from top to 4-5th. It has taken us this long to recover our top position - and now we are still having to face the two obstacles that created a struggle for us. If we beat Chelsea then I think I will be confident of beating City.

We only need to beat city, if we draw against chelsea and win the rest, we will still win the bugger

Every time..? You mean that one time back in 2009..? 🙂 We'd lost that title before Christmas by not beating Hull and Fulham and other cannon fodder at Anfield when we racked up all of those games on the scum, and led the table for a while.

People vastly exagerate that 1st - 4th place drop over Christmas... We lost against the two best teams around in almost successive matches. It's not the plummet that hysterical manc fans wanted us to believe that is was. MOST teams lose at Maine Road and Stamford Bridge. 1st - 4th means nothing... It's hyperbole. If we wanna win the title, we're going to have to beat the top teams out there... They're not an obstacle - They're the teams that we have to beat to be champions.

And we play City first, mate. If we beat them, we may not even have to beat Chelsea.

I get what you are saying - but here is the issue and it has been said by all. Win ALL our games - then we win the title and nothing gets in the way. So right now as it stands a draw is like losing a game now. That is the problem. My mind set right now is that if we either lose or draw against the likes of West Ham, Place, Norwich, or Newcastle - then our title chances are gone gone gone !!! Drawing is really not an option unless I could be sure that both Chelsea, and City lose 2 games each against opponents other than us - which I very much doubt.

Ok. Respectfully, you're wrong about that...

Yes, winning everything we have left is the easiest way to do it, but it's not the only way. Our title chances are not gone is we draw on Saturday, no more than Chelsea's are gone after the Palace slip on Saturday. There'll be a few twists and turns before all is said and done.

I hope the heck our manager and players aren't thinking like that. Get a grip, Ahmed, FFS.

Man I wish I could - but my life has got more complicated - I need to focus on work and a house move, but all I can think of right now is LFC and the next game.

24 Years !!! we have all been waiting for this - how did we get into this position ? - simple ... all these managers who failed and failed with their so called 5-year plans. We should never have let ourselves be in this situation. I mean - it is highly unlikely that the most successful teams in Europe go missing with titles for 24 years do they ? - Take Italy - AC Milan, and Juventus ? or Spain - Barca, Real Madrid. As a club in this country we are the equivalent of one of those teams and do you hear them ever waiting 24 years for a title ?

I know a team that waited 26 years. Anyway, that has no bearing on this...

You're over-thinking this enormously, mate. Relax a little and enjoy it. Worry less. This is why we follow football... For weeks like this, for tension like this. We may not win it, but this is still fucking brilliant!

The Mancs went even longer before they started winning things again under Ferguson. Means nothing. That was then, this is now.

You are thinking too far ahead. One game at a time, each one is a cup final and there are no easy games

Yeah - but that other team was then back in the day - this is different as we were champs in 89-90 and therefore should have kept going to win the title and some where along the line the title became an imaginary object when really it should always be the focus of our clubs intention with expectations to challenge and win it year on year. But because it has been away for so long at this club - it is having this affect on me- so close so close - can you feel it ? I feel for SG and the missing medal in his collection and I feel for the great work that the players have done this season - I would feel terrible for them all if we don't win it.

We'll all be disappointed for sure but, win OR lose, we'll go again next season with real confidence that we are back as serious contenders.

You can tell who are the more 'older' and sage fans in here, by the way they are handling the title run-in.

Their experience in dealing with false dawns, countless disappointments and nerve-wreckers, is something we young ones need to learn and respect.

😉

I don't think the players will be able to deal with the pressure and they will be like no other teams that have come to our place this season.

No one put it better than Mr. Rodgers himself. There's no pressure on us. The teams who are under pressure are those who have been spending a fortune and expect to win a title.

Forget Mourinho's weak attempt at presenting Chelsea as an underdog. It's Man City and Chelsea who are under pressure over the next few weeks, and it's them that have to make a frightening trip to the home of the team who have played the best football in Europe over the last year.
