Toby Alderweireld

Only second choice to Papa John and Minas Tirith though.

They'd be like the £15M more expensive choice too. So you should probably see it more like this.

Toby, Erik and someone extremely talented like Fischer versus Papa and Henrikh.

I have not seen enough of Henrikh and almost never seen Papa play to actually determine whether they are worth the extra money but all I can say is, they have to be quite fantastic knowing what we could've got instead.

Perhaps Bruma could be available for the same amount, but I am reluctantly mostly championing players I've actually seen play. Bruma I've only seen in glimpses but he does look an amazing talent. Kurt Zouma, the defender, perhaps another candidate. Isco is sadly well out of reach but you can't have them all anyways.

Don't get me wrong though, the talent of Fischer is massive, and I bet you will find it difficult to name any other 18-year-old out there looking a brighter prospect hence why I though it was sound to mention him.

That's that settled then.

Reluctantly?

That was me trying to pull a joke.

If I failed, then my apologies, but now and then I do get the feeling that some posters are championing players whom they have actually not ever seen play. Or the other way around, for that matter, which is even worse.

PS I have only seen very little of Zouma for the French U-teams but as he is getting awesome reviews from all corners, he is most likely going to be very very good.

Not championing players they have seen??

Ehm.. what?

Championing players - or the quite opposite - without never having seen them play.

It must be my English then, should be rather easy to explain but I must be tired.... 🙂

Norwich City are interested in Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld and have contacted the Dutch club’s sporting director Marc Overmars about the Belgian.

Alderweireld has just one year left on his contract at Ajax and is in the market for a move to a bigger league. He has been strongly linked with Liverpool in England, while Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen had held talks with Ajax and the player’s representatives, but failed to find an agreement; indeed, Alderweireld’s camp were disappointed with the personal terms on offer at the BayArena, while Leverkusen found Ajax’s asking price too high.

Leverkusen could yet return for Alderweireld, while Liverpool have started to firm up their interest in the 24-year-old – but Norwich are now also very much in the race.

"I understand that they have made contact with Marc Overmars", the Belgian’s agent Soren Lerby told Dutch daily De Telegraaf.

"Toby has left Ajax’s training camp in Austria due to personal circumstances and I haven’t been able to speak to him about Norwich.

"I don’t know how Toby sees the transfer."

Norwich have been active in the summer transfer market already, completing the capture of Dutch striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel and English winger Nathan Redmond.

And Ajax have already secured a replacement for Alderweireld in Mike van der Hoorn.

According to Dutch media he's traveling to Norwich tomorrow with his agent.
Good signing for Norwich if they pull it off.

Wonder how good this Niklas Moisander lad is
Not very good. Good footballer overall but makes so many simple mistakes at times it's quite scary and can look quite slow and clumsy too.

Ajax are about his top level imo.

I could tell before I looked that he wasn't Danish.

Alderweireld has been linked with a move away from Ajax all summer, with the likes of Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen credited with an interest in his services.

However, Norwich agreed a fee with Ajax to bring Alderweireld to Carrow Road, but were unable to agree personal terms with the Belgian international.

Alderweireld's agent, Soren Lerby, rejected suggestions that it was Norwich's standing in the game that persuaded the 24-year-old to reject their overtures.
"The problem was not that Norwich didn't fit Toby's ambitions, but we simply failed to agree terms," Lerby told Algemeen Dagblad.

Alderweireld, who is entering the final year of his contract at the Amsterdam ArenA, has admitted that if a move does not materialise this summer he is happy to stay Ajax.

"There is still other interest and a transfer takes a long time," Alderweireld told voetbal.nl. "We're only in mid-July it can still be done. If a nice club comes, it can go fast.

"If there is nothing, then I'll just stay at Ajax."

Liverpool target Christian Eriksen, Toby Alderweireld AND Ryan Bertrand to create top-four squad
Main man: Rodgers is keeping tabs on Christian Eriksen

Liverpool want to clinch a £22million double deal for Ajax stars Christian Eriksen and Toby Alderweireld while Chelsea’s Ryan Bertrand is also on their radar.

Attacking midfielder Eriksen, 21 and Belgium international defender Alderweireld, 24, both only have one year remaining on their Ajax contracts and are expected to leave the Dutch club.

Manager Brendan Rodgers has turned to £15m-rated Eriksen after missing out on Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who snubbed Liverpool to join Borussia Dortmund.

Dortmund had also been chasing Eriksen, but Liverpool now only expect to face competition from Roma.

The Denmark international has been one of Europe’s outstanding young talents in recent seasons. Two summers ago he was on the brink of joining Manchester City but amisunderstanding over a proposed meeting with then manager Roberto Mancini scuppered the deal.

Ajax coach Frank de Boer said: “I would want nothing more than having Christian with us for a few more years.

“But we realise that the interest in this kind of player is huge. And I can also understand that he wants to make another step in his career. I can’t stop him.”

Despite the fact Liverpool cannot offer Eriksen Champions League football, it is understood he is interested in moving to Anfield.

De Boer added: “If Liverpool go back to really good possession play, it can be a success for Christian. But it does mean that their entire way of playing has to change. It is up to Christian what he wants. If he feels good going to Liverpool anyway, then it is up to him.”

Alderweireld has turned down the chance to discuss personal terms with Norwich after the Dutch giants agreed a £7m deal for the centre-back with the Carrow Road club.

He explained why he would not be rushed into a move to Norwich – leaving the door open for Liverpool.

“I am keeping all my options open,” said Alderweireld. “I am not rushing out the door. The whole picture of my next club has to be perfect. With every offer I am receiving this summer, I look at the pros and cons. The total package of my next club has to be right for me.”

Liverpool have also made an enquiry about left-back Bertrand as Rodgers attempts to build a squad capable of challenging for the top four.

Rodgers’ interest in Bertrand, however, gives Chelsea bait if the London club decide to pursue interest in wantaway striker Luis Suarez.

The interest in the defender is particularly intriguing, as, along with Arsenal, Chelsea have tried to find out whether Suarez would be interested in moving within the Premier League.

Rodgers knows Bertrand well, having worked with him during his time at Chelsea and taken him on loan as his first signing at Reading.

Suarez had previously claimed he wanted to quit England, but last week revised that slightly by informing Liverpool he still wanted to join a Champions League club.
