Ajax have received an offer for Tottenham target Toby Alderweireld, the Dutch outfit have confirmed.

The North Londoners want to bring the defender and midfielder Christian Eriksen in a £15m double swoop - pipping Liverpool to the pair.

And now Ajax director of football Marc Overmars has revealed a bid had been received for Alderweireld - but wouldn't let on who it was from.

The 24-year-old turned down a move to Norwich earlier in the summer but would be keen to move to the Premier League, according to his dad.

"We have received an offer," Overmars told De Telegraaf.

"We won't give any names as we are still in talks.

"But, just like with Norwich City earlier, I expect we can work out a deal with this club. "

Overmars did not mention the club's name but Mirror are claiming its Spurs.

TOTTENHAM are in the preliminary stages of securing a deal for Ajax star Toby Alderweireld.

That's according to the Belgian star's father Vic, who also revealed Spartak Moscow were currently locked in negotiations with the Dutch champs.

He was quoted by Belgian newspaper Nieuwsblad as saying: "Both teams are negotiating.

"If they come to an agreement, then we go around the table.

"After the weekend we will sit down together anyway to scroll through his options.

"About ten days ago we heard through the grapevine that Tottenham would take anything, but that's just preliminary. "

Both Everton and Liverpool are thought to be keeping tabs on the 24-year-old, who has one year left on his contract.

Alderweireld made 45 appearances last season scoring four times as he and Ajax secured their third successive league title.

there is a reason this guy is still languishing in the Dutch league, at this age, after shouting from the roof tops for everyone to come and buy him. steer clear.
 
Haven't seen enough of him to judge but Jan Vertonghen moved to Spurs at the age of 25. While the Dutch league may not be the strongest, he's at a club that's playing CL football yr in yr out and one that has been champions for 3 consecutive seasons.

Vertonghen was a beast at Ajax at the time, Alderweireld is not quite there yet.
 
How I wish we had signed Verthongen instead of Spurs… He is probably my favorite defender in the league.

He openly expressed his desire to sign for Spurs. Odd. He voiced his concern and told them to basically hurry the fuck on.

Director of football at Ajax, Marc Overmars, has said that the club have recently turned down an offer from Atletico Madrid for Toby Alderweireld.

The 24-year-old defender, who can play at centre-back or full-back, has been linked through the summer with a possible move to the Premier League, with both Arsenal and Tottenham said to be tracking his services.

More recent rumours suggested that Atletico were also interested in making a move as a possible replacement for Martin Demichelis, who is wanted by Manchester City.

However, Alderweireld’s club Ajax have looked to clarify the situation through their director of football.

“We were contacted by Atletico this weekend and they made an offer, but it was not at the level for a Belgian international and therefore it was rejected,” former Barcelona winger Overmars revealed to reporters this week.

It is understood that Atleti’s offer amounted to around the €4m mark.

A few years ago Suarez was the main man at Ajax, then after he was sold it became Vertonghen and now it's Eriksen.

Toby is not quite in their bracket talent wise but he does have qualities, and is their best defender at the time. I don't think he'll be brought in for the starting XI mind but could be a useful back-up that'll turn into a first teamer in a Season or two. I quite like him.
