Let the coach help him with the deficient areas of his game and see where it will land us.

Yes, Carragher fucked up against Hulk, one of the hottest strikers around. Coates fucked up against some bin man from Lancashire, or wherever.

I wouldn't argue the point as picking out one mistake isn't really a legitimate starting point for a debate (but on the subject it was a bad fuck up and not really a result of Hulk's excellence). Players make mistakes - Gerrard has made a few in his time and so have many other great players. It happens.

I didn't think Carra still had it in him to finish on a high as he looked completely finished before he got a run but credit to him, he pulled it together and made sure he went out on a high. I like that - in a way it kinda epitomizes Carra. He's been doing it against the odds the whole time.
 
Brendan quickly identified that Carroll and Adam weren't good enough and got rid. Cole was next to go. Later on it was Shelvey's turn. His record is pretty much impeccable, transfer-wise.

Brendan knows more about Coates than we do and if he deems that he's not good enough, then so be it.
