Rasmus+Elm+of+AZ+Alkmaar

Rasmus Elm is the man Liverpool believe can deliver the goal power to boost their title chances next season.

The 24-year-old AZ Alkmaar midfielder, who will represent Sweden at Euro 2012, is in the form of his life. He has scored 12 league goals this season and been watched by all the top Premier League, Italian and Spanish clubs.

Before being ditched as Liverpool’s director of football a fortnight ago, Damien Commoli had compiled an extensive dossier on Elm.

Kenny Dalglish is well aware of Elm’s power-packed ability and will finalise his summer recruitment drive with his club’s owners, the Fenway Group, at the end of the season.

Clearly, Liverpool have been stung by criticism that they paid over the odds last summer to sign three Englishmen in Andy Carroll, Jordan Henderson and Stewart Downing for a combined fee of around £75million.

The good news about Elm, who resembles Anfield skipper Steven Gerrard with his shooting power at set-pieces, is that, with only one year to go on his current contract, he can be lured away for around £8m.

He's got some real potential; a sweet right foot, reads the game well and has a fantastic work rate. However, I really don't think he's good enough if we're to challenge for major trophies. Possibly as a squad player, but definitely not as a regular starter.

He's a typical Swedish player.
He's like an Ikea product, not really quality but it does the job and you get what you pay for.
Elm does have potential, though. He has a sweet right foot and works really hard in midfield, he's also quite versatile (AM,CM, RM, LM).
I'm not his biggest fan and I think there are a lot better player out there.
Anyway, you'll see more of him in the Euro's this summer.

Done deal according to Swedish newspapers.

£8 Million

5 year contract.

Deal was completed last weekend.

His agent refuses to confirm it.

Another Henderson imo, prefers to play in the middle but usually plays on the wing.
He's more attacking and he's not afraid to give it a go unlike Hendo.

He's better than Jonjo.
More experience as well. Lead his homeclub Kalmar to the league title as a 19-20 year old.

sounds like a decent player, is he much different to Miereles ?
Yes he's a creative player and a good passer with great work rate.
Differs from Meireles in that he's more attacking and more versatile.

I am seriously underwhelmed here. A slow-ish, 24-year-old setpiece specialist, whitout any real pedigree to show.

Have seen him on several occasions for Sweden - notably in games against Denmark - and he's never stood out. Rather the contrary as William Kvist, Brügge's Zimling and Christan Eriksen completely overshadows their neighbours including Elm in central.

I can truely understand why we've flogged Comolli if this is the kind of players he's been tracking. Elm plays the forward midfield position, like Christian Eriksen. One is distinctively average-like the other is world class.

Why go for the average one?

Let me just say: He's not a bad footballer but he's just not one to take us any further forward either. Not better than the ones we've already got in midfield like Adam, Henderson and Downing, so unless he's a direct replacement for one of those I just don't understand this singing. At all.

I'm with KHL on this one. I cant understand why were signing another central AM. One of Adam or Shelvey must be heading for the exit. If Maxi and Kuyt do go, surely we need cover for the wings. Then there's the glaring situation with regards to a striker. What would we do if Suarez and Carroll were injured simultaneously? We'd be fucked.

why oh why are we spunking 8 mill on some swedish nomark in midfield when there are far more urgent areas of the pitch that need addressing. If he blocks Shelveys development I think I will crawl into a dark room and pull out what little hair I have left strand by fucking strand

I know absolutely nothing about the lad and KHL and Modo have rather contrasting views. KHL not backing a Scandanavian player?😵

Im not impressed either, there's about a hundred players I'd have instead of him but he'd be an improvement considering what we have.

Never seen him play, but I gather from the reaction that he's a bit 'meh'?

That, and the fact that it'd be totally unnecessary to sign a central midfielder (unless it's a world class defensive midfielder or a world class playmaker in question) makes me fear that this is almost certain to happen.

🙁

I thought that we have enough of the meh type player. Our squad is full of them unless a few of them suddenly blossom in their 2nd season.
