Post match Thoughts - City (A)

Why aren't we making a big deal about the duel Skrtel lost against Kompany that led to the first goal?

'Cause I remember a certain Dane doing the same thing when we were 4-0 up against Norwich and all hell broke loose.

Just thought I'd mention it.

And here comes the agenda. Kompany is a handful for any central defender to deal with. Not every defender can win every aerial duel.

'Skrtel - another good solid game. Forget the shirt holding, every CB is doing it.'

This is how i see it to, i have no real problem with it because as you say everyone does it and always has.

Skrtel seems to of been made a scapegoat for this type of defending recently, theres always 2 or 3 doing it when defending set pieces, its nothing new but for some reason Skrtel is getting highlighted for it.

If they start punishing us or anyone else then its going to open a massive can of worms because if you punish it then you have to punish it all the time meaning there wil be half a dozen penalties in every match played.

Exactly. Kompany had hold of Skrtel's shirt until he jumped and had hold of our attackers shirts at every setpiece. But no ones moaning about that, or the fact that he was kicking Suarez with impunity throughout.

well hopefully it will make them give us an answer to that offside while theyre at it

Its called a mistake! They happen because the linesman is a human being. You can't turn around and then make the comments that BR did. If Ferguson did it then we'd be apoplectic about it and demanding a ban.

There's some things that are best said in private. Those sort of comments are best left to other managers imho.

how? i dont see how the FA cant say it wasnt a terrible decision

Yes it was. But they can't replay the match because of it can they? Otherwise most matches would have to be replayed because of restrospective big calls. We didn't get the rub of the green this time.

All true mate.

I think Rodgers is well aware of this & has done it on purpose.

He is using an opportunity to create & foster an 'us & them' siege mentality in order to get something positive from the match.

A bonus is that he has highlighted holding done by the City players which means it deflects the growing media attention from Skrtel a little.

He's not soft, Ferguson did it for donkeys for the same reason.

ah im just fucking gutted, we really deserved something out of that, we played amazing football at times, for all the squad additions we made in the summer not one of them have added anything, bringing on moses and aspas just added nothing whatsoever, id rather have ibe on the bench, hopefully with suso back and a few signings we'll be right up there

Eh .. lacking in being clinical ? perhaps if you watched today's game but I think we have a high goal scoring record. I would just say we are the best team in the league along with City. We had them shitting and I hope we really do shit piles on them when they come to our place.

No mate - what we have is almost two thirds of our goals coming from 2 very prolific players despite both of them missing games through injury or suspension.

Long may they continue to take their chances, but unless the rest of the team become more clinical with the chances they get - we'll have a problem from time to time.

The City game was a prime example - Coutinho, Sterling, Johnson & Henderson all had chances or half chances - didn't make them count.

Thing is, every time I've seen skirtl of late he spends more time holding the player and not having a clue where the ball is so rarely wins a header.

Against Cardiff he got away with just, against better players like kompany we paid for it.....

Yeah, Moses especially is a waste of space. He needs shipping out.

Aspas needs more time an is more of a replacement for Sterling, if anything.

Well impressed with Henderson again. He seems to be flourishing in Gerrard's absence.

We created more and better chances against the strongest team in the league, where try have battered everyone else. So encouraging but we need to get something from Chelsea.

What a magical player Suarez is. If he leaves, we're going to be set right back

It's not though. I'm asking why it's a big deal when Agger makes a mistake?.
He's been crucified on here for less.

Dunno if anyone else said this as I'm quiffing

Kompany is a world class player
Bradley Johnson isn't

Would I be more pissed off I'd agger lost Ronaldo? No, because Ronaldo is boss.

Would I be more pissed off if Titus bramble got the jump on Skrtel? Yes, because bramble is shite.

Skrtel fucked up for Kompany's goal, Agger got a shoeing for the same the other week. I don't blame him for the second goal, it's a split second decision where he thought he was going to get there ahead of Sakho. He did it for Agger against Everton and bailed him out. You win some, you lose some. At least he puts up a fight for everything.

I don't agree. I think it makes him look like a hypocrite.

Having said that, I can't really blame him for his comments. He was frustrated after seeing his team outplay City and get nothing for their efforts.

We were good but City were there for the taking.
Its hard though when Ross Kemp was reffing the game.
The fat shit couldn't keep up with the game.

I hope we take a lot of confidence from this match and go to Chelsea with a similar showing. Will do wonders for our belief being the side to end Mourinho's unbeaten run of 69 league games (P - 69 W - 54 D - 15 L - 0) at Stamford Bridge.

3 mistakes that cost us:
The ref.
Mignolet.
Sterling.

Shit happens apparently. I didn't think we would have the strenght to fight back in the second half but we had. Bring on Chelsea!

Maybe its an old-fashioned viewpoint, but I always thought that a defender's job on set-pieces is to clear the ball, Of late Skrtel isn't even watching the flight of the ball. How in fucks name is he going to get his head to it if he's stood on the ground trying to pull the shirt off his man?

Oh and good news about Moses. He cant be in the squad for Sunday. Although I wouldn't be surprised if Chelsea were prepared to overlook the rule.

Another thing. Johnson ( who I always defended) is getting on my nerves now!

Thought Cissokho did ok, surprised me actually, and Sakho was a beast in the first half. Unfortunately he made a few quick consecutive mistakes late in the game, and rather than giving him time to recover, we kept feeding him the ball.

Loved Sterling's attacking and defensive display apart from the miss.

Not sure where Stevie fits into our midfield when he's fit, certainly not in Hendo's place.

Suarez is just an incredible player and Coutinho is starting to look like the player we were raving about last season.

Brendan's comments were ill advised but understandable, and said from the heart before his head got a chance to speak.

I've only read some of this thread, but to the people moaning about the officials, please grow to fuck up. It's embarrassing blaming the officials. It's not the Liverpool way at all. Yes we had a goal wrongly disallowed. Yes Suarez had a definite penalty waved away. But city could've had 2 or 3 penalties too. Skrtel was pulling kompany's shirt every time they got a corner. We lost yesterday because we didn't take the chances we were given. Coutinho, Johnson and Sterling were all guilty of missing good chances. Let's stop with the referee/linesman bashing.

We didn't have a goal disallowed. Hart had stopped playing and Sterling booted the ball in the back of the net long after the whistle had gone. It's not quite the same.

We had an amazing chance taken away from us but it wasn't a 100% goal.

I thought Skrtel had a good game mate but he didn;t even jump for the ball for Kompany's goal he was that busy grapling with him. He gave himself no opportunity to get some leverage to attack the ball.

That was my point above. He's standing on the ground holding Kompany's shirt, as Kompany gets above him for the header. Just keep your eye on the fucking ball Martin and give yourself a chance of winning the header, or at least putting him off.
