Pre Match Pre Match - Man City (H) - Sun 16:00

You wouldn’t get away with calling a couple of people “murderers” in a public place so why is a match any different apart from the size and scale?

I tend to agree, but context matters. There's a difference between being very obnoxious online and being very obnoxious in a public place with lots of people who might get very angry, which is why it's a public order offence and not a "being obnoxious" offence.

It's both. It's deemed a public order offence by virtue of its obnoxiousness.

I'm totally in favour of these people being banned from grounds, as well as ejected at the time, if possible. And to the extent that the police would need to be involved to do that, if at all, then fair enough. But the idea of then also bringing them up on criminal charges seems too far to me.

That was our best team performance of the season so far, despite we have been so wasteful up front, it was an excellent result, all players have played very well VDD was the best player.
We need to do the same tomorrow and against Everton at the weekend. Good Luck

Can't say I like this idea of criminally charging people for essentially just being (very) obnoxious.

Its the only way to stamp it out, and it adds zero to the sport and beyond that is detrimental to those who were involved or connected to those involved.

You do know that 'banned from grounds' almost rarely work?

I was at the last HSA meeting and I gotta say tragedy chanting doesn't personally bother me, in much the same way I don't mind when a twat calls me a twat, why should I care etc... but anyway the chiefs of police were there for the first time ever and loads of people at the meeting are still in the horrible position of having hillsborough on the mind all the time and having this make them feel sick every time they hear it but wanting to watch the match either at the ground or at home. The police said they didn't realise the impact it had and they'd be rolling out training immediately to start nicking as many as they could. Seems like for once they weren't lying.

By the way these people won't be criminalised, the majority weren't born at them time. The idea is to arrest them, sit them down, explain the above, caution them, and hopefully after a couple of years it'll go the way of open racism in the grounds did. Meaning it'll die out because people around them will tell them to shut the fuck up or knock them out.

I heard from a friend at LFC Foundation that they were rolling out this kind of approach, particularly when kids are the offenders - essentially putting the shits up them but also allowing for the fact that a lot of them are easily influenced by older fans, likely don't really understand the issues and the trauma of the victims, and they should probably be given a second chance.

Sky now reiterating what I've been saying for 2 seasons (and why I've hated and vehemently disagreed with this "but City can go on a 15 game winning streak):

while the decline of Pep Guardiola's team has been sharp, it is also the product of poor planning and a series of underwhelming signings.

You have to wonder if this is because they know what is coming with 115 and would rather win promotion back to the PL before starting serious investment again.

Or it’s top players won’t go there till they know what’s happening

I have suspected for a couple of years that the pl and city might come to an agreement for a points deduction in a season where they're not competing. Punishment doled out, no impact to the product; it's a win win for them

This would be fine if they are deducted 3 points for each charge, and they carry over season on season until they are all used up.

Worst case - if they hit their historical best form at 100 points per season, they would end up on 0 in the PL year 1, 0 in the Championship year 2, 0 in Division 1 year 3 and start year 4 in Division 4 on -45 points.

I can live with that

The problem with dropping this dreamy style 'i told you so' is that these are some of the streaks City had in the last two years

2023/24 - PL winners
- won 12 of their last 14 PL games
- unbeaten for the last 23 PL games

2022/23 - PL winners
- unbeaten in 16 game streak until crowned champions.
- Also won FA cup and CL in that streak

I think you point can be true for this season - but to 'i told you so' about the last two seasons is a bit odd given they did these streaks on their way to winning the title both times.

That's completely missed my point (or maybe I could have elucidated it better). I didn't say that they weren't winning and it was happening every season. I've consistently (2 seasons, especially in the pre-season forecasts) said that there were clear issues (I was just a little, OK a lot, ahead of the curve)!

However it was obvious that there was a clear trend and accumulative decline allied with poor buying decisions (despite the constant media Pep love in). In previous seasons players like De Bruyne, David Silva etc. were still at their peak (and uninjured) and they had acquired on the cheap their best buy by far of the past 3-4 years, the no-brainer of Haaland.
And yet in the media (and from some on here) we get this "City are capable of going on a 15 game winning streak. I'm still frightened of them" which to my mind they are patently now incapable of and slowly that rhetoric is also changing in the media.

So yeah, I have been shouting this out not only now but for 2-3 seasons. I'm due my Blue Peter Badge and a doggy biscuit!

I did just take your post at face value - that you disagreed 'vehemently' with anyone who in the past two seasons said "but city can go on a 15 game streak" - which has been proven to correct both of the last two seasons.

This past summer was quiet getting Savinho in from our of their feeder clubs but summer before they spent big bringing in Gvardiol, Nunes and Doku for the best part of 200M along with Kovavic as well.

Just ban them from every league. Nowhere to play FC.

Yeah one major challenge is that wherever City end up - they will ruin that league too. But I do hope they drop out of the PL as with the scale of exits they are unlikely to rebuild in time to come straight back up. Remaining in the league and getting a punishment that only hits them in one season is just simply not enough.

Probably hasn’t been discussed enough just how bad their signings have been, bar Gvardiol.

Yep - some really average work in the market especially in midfield with Nunes, Kovacic and Gundogan.

Did a quick check on some former academy players and this must hurt given the gaps in their squad

Cole Palmer
Michael Olise
Brahim Diaz
Romeo Lavia
Jadon Sancho
Morgan Rogers
Taylor Harwood Bellis
Liam Delap
