Post match Thoughts - City (A)

One more point - I feel like we blew an opportunity today. That's how good we can be - despite our weakensses, we could have easily come out of the 1st half with a 3 goal lead. We played some lovel stuff, and if it's Suarez on the end of his pass late on, we get a point.

Read what we're saying ... we're GUTTED we didn't beat the favorites to win the league, a team that has destroyed Manure 4-1, Tottenham 6-0 and Arsenal 6-3 at this stadium. We just played against them, minus Gerrard and minus Sturrdige, and held our fucking own and then some.

DA or not, we ARE a good team and we CAN beat anyone anywhere.

COME ON YOU REDS.

I thought we were the better team for much of the game. We still look vulnerable on set pieces, and Sahko ranged from excellent to hugely suspect. I still think we should persist with him, though. Pity Sterling couldn't continue his goal-scoring form. That was a gilt-edged chance for him in the second half. It's very hard not to be disappointed, as I thought we could have taken much more from the game, but the fact I can say that is probably a measure of how far we've come. Hopefully we will remain confident, and play the same way against Chelsea.

Disappointed with the result but a great performance. At last we have a team to be proud of. Imagine how good we'll be when we ship out the shite like Lucas, Allen and Johnson.

Went to the best team in the league and played them off the park...

If we had out shooting boots we could have won...

Sign the right players in jan and we may just have a chance...

I'm afraid we spent too much energy in this game, without getting the result. Some people are talking about the Chelsea game as if it's 3 points in the bag already. It will be very hard and their threat from set-pieces if even bigger than City.

At least Rodgers gave Coutinho a bit of a breather. WTF happened to Kelly? If he is injured again, his timing couldn't be worse...

Yeah it shows how far we have come in next to no time, we are nailed on for CL if we keep playing like we are.

I think our midfield did ok. We didn't win the battle decisively, like we did vs Spurs, but we also definitely didn't lose it. It's the relative lack of quality in other areas (Skrtel's positioning, full-backs, Sterling and Coutinho's finishing) that was the difference today.

Hes not match fit.

Rodgers said it himself, he isn't up to it yet, he needs to be eased in to get upto speed and get his sharpness back.

Getting thrown into it again after so long cant be easy.

Mignolet will be disappointed with the goal, but to be fair this was a very deceptive strike by Negredo. Outside of the boot, with spin, kind of in between a shot and a lob. Raul used to score like this, just using the power of surprise and deception to make good goalkeepers look bad. Negredo is a terrific, terrific player.

Allen is improving and I believe will become important to the team. His first touch needs to improve, though.

The Chelsea game isn't a given - people are saying (I think) if we play at TODAY'S level, we should beat them.

I think players like Suarez, Sterling etc won't have a problem with energy. Maybe Smith will make his debut.

Not entirely convinced by Robinson, but at times it feels like we need competent more than anything else at the fullback slots. Flanagan did that at LB, and that makes our play so much better.

The thing that sucks about Glenjo is that he's a form player. He'll be awful for around half a season, and then be amazing against Chelsea, making him "undroppable" again. Have to break that cycle at some point.

Same goes for Skrtel I would say.

I think Johnson is playing through a knock or something. It doesn't just add up, this sh!teness.

As for Robinson, I wasn't convinced with Flanagan, a right-footer to boot and he was a revealation.

On the flip side we have all our big matches at home in the 2nd half of the season..

We will not lose to city at home... No chance

It does add up, as he's more often than not average. He's ageing, so he will get shitter

He's always been shit. Finally people are realising it.

Once more he's by far the laziest cunt in our team.

We've a real honest, hard working bunch apart from that lethargic, hald-arsed clown.

That's really knee jerking. He's playing poorly lately (possibly this season) but he hasn't always been shit.

He's nowhere near the Moses scale of lazy though.

That's more like it!

This is pretty interesting:
Samir Nasri, who is the youngest City player starting today, is older than 7 of Liverpool's starting XI.

December 26, 2013
By Richard Jolly

Brendan Rodgers risked an FA charge by launching a scathing attack on the officials after Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester City and questioning the appointment of a referee from Greater Manchester.

The Liverpool manager believed a series of major decisions went against his side and was particularly aggrieved that Raheem Sterling had a goal disallowed after he was wrongly ruled offside.

Rodgers called the officials’ performance “horrendous” and insisted that referee Lee Mason, from Bolton, lives too near City to be given such a match.

He said in his postmatch news conference: “I was very proud of the players, I thought they were absolutely outstanding. They had no help from the officials. I thought today they were horrendous in terms of performance. We had nothing that went our way at all.

“I thought we never got any decisions. The linesman on the offside one, he wasn’t even on the same cut of grass. If you are working at this level, you have to get it right. It’s not even a difficult one. It is a perfectly-timed run and he is given offside when he is through one-on-one on goal. They are big moments in big games.

"There is another incident when Luis [Suarez] doesn’t get a free kick when Joleon Lescott comes through him and it is waved play on. It is arguable it is a penalty at the end. Hopefully we don’t have a Greater Manchester referee again on a Liverpool-Manchester City [game].”

Rodgers insisted it is out of character for him to criticise referees and their assistants and said he was only commenting because he felt they were particularly poor.

He added: “The officials will make mistakes. I just felt the mistakes that were made tonight shouldn’t have happened at this level. We get Raheem through on goal and you are talking about three feet [onside]. It’s not even the same cut of grass. Where you are as a linesman, you can see the whole picture. It is a poor decision. Of course if Raheem goes through he scores.

“I never speak about officials but I feel the need to protect the players this evening. They were outstanding and got nothing. I was surprised we were playing in Manchester and have a referee from Greater Manchester. I am sure we won’t get Liverpool-Manchester City [refereed by] someone from the Wirral.”

Rodgers felt his side deserved to become the first team to beat City at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League this season.

He added: “We are disappointed not to have won, never mind losing. We showed great confidence and belief and scored a wonderful goal. Some of our movement and passing was exceptional and for me it is great to see. We have lost the game but take a great deal of encouragement.”[/article]
