The Mirror is still describing Roy as 'fiercely intelligent'. That's Hodge, not Hume or Mill or Wittgenstein. Woy. That's part of what's wrong. We live in a culture in which bumbling fecking idiots likes of Roy 'I've read the odd novel' Hodgson can be hailed as 'fiercely intelligent'.

The thing is, the most important thing you need as an international manager is tactical acumen.

Success or failure boils down to a few key games. You don't have time to build a team dynamic, you can't build a squad at all - you get what's given to you, and motivation shouldn't be an issue in an international tournament. So the biggest thing, if not the only thing is a great tactical mind. Which makes the Hodgson appointment so absurd. You need someone who can do the type of thing Conte did to Spain a few times in a tournament and you've won it.

Benitez wouldn't be a bad option based on this. But the media would be on him from day one, as well as popular opinion.

I can't think of a good candidate.

The England setup needs a total overhaul. Hiring in another average manager is going to do nothing for us.

England needs a manager with balls.
Example Conte subbed DeRossi yesterday in the middle of the 2ND half. Never would have happened with England. Despite someone like Rooney being crap

That last night was brilliant. Beyond my wildest dreams. The fact that it was Iceland (the lowest ranked team in the tournament?) made it even better.

It was worth seeing England beat Wales with that last minute winner to taste that sweet, sweet nectar last night. Glorious.

Good shout. At least he tactically talks sense about the fundamental basics. He might have fucked up first time around, but I'm not sure he's as naive or egotistical as he was then.
Don't think Hoddle is the type that cares about player ego's or star power. He probably would have subbed Rooney yesterday.

Why would you give a fuck about England? I find the whole hate from the other home nations and European countries a bit staggering and sad. I don't hate other countries and I backed and applauded the other home nations. It's like this myth that we mouth off that we're going to win it each time. We really don't.

Beyond my wildest dreams. Get a fucking life.

I don't know for other people, but it's the English media and certain section of the Ingurland brigade that spoil it for me. Bleating on about how great England are. Also, England are (or should be) comfortably the strongest team from the British Isles. The weaker teams are generally going to not like them, kind of like how everyone hated Man United in the 90's. Tell me you've never enjoyed Man United losing. I generally wish England well, but I can't like any team that Roy Hodgson is associated with either.

Fans will be fans and the media hardly trumpets England as great. They are consistently laying into the national team.

But the contempt goes decades back, Hodgson is just an excuse really. And its not like we come close to winnng anying ever, so the United hate only really stems from their spell of dominance and their antics against refs etc. I can't remember anyone saying we would do well, because we never do.

There's loads of reasons for me. I supported the team up until 2002. Maybe 2006.

I can't get behind a team full of such twats.

I can't deal with the media. Not so much in saying that England are great, but there definitely is some fawning going on. You just have to listen to how they're talking about Rooney at cm. Lothar Mathaus said it right and just said it's nonsense that he's playing there.

Roy fucking Hodgson. Macca said it best. "Fiercely intelligent" and the rest of the fawning. The man is a clown.

The hypocrites at the FA that had the temerity to get Rooney's ban reduced when he booted someone. They even got prince William to write the bloody letter.

A large portion of the fans. I want none of them to have any happiness ever. That brass band? Bloody hell.

That woman in Barnsley.

All these patriotic racists that have come crawling out of the woodwork after the referendum.

There's probably more.

The media has far too big an influence in this country. From influencing the Brexit vote, to influencing people's view of the national football team.

My advice? Don't read it. Or read it and take it with a pinch of salt.

We have a fantastic and admired free press in the UK. Only a fucking idiot wouldn't agree. A superb BBC and ITN news service, a wealth of newspapers covering all aspects of politics and demographics.

It's a miracle really. I suppose it's one of the reasons we have the fifth largest economy in the world and a very high proportion of residents who have completed some kind of tertiary education.
