Moreno (and To A Lesser Extent, Sakho)

You knobheads could at least argue about Moreno.

Most of the time, he has attributes that add real value to the place. It's those fucking occasional moments that he has where he cannot seem to engage his brain that are infuriating. I suspect he will continue to frustrate and split opinion for as long as he is with us. I for one am happy to have him around, and hope that in a year or two he will have matured into a top, top poster player.

Thing is, no one really gives a fuck about Moreno do they? He has no loyal fan base of cheerleaders. He isn't playing ahead of a fan fav or pet player. He's just over there on the left running around like an over zealous chipmunk. I'd be happy to play Gomez / Flanagan ahead of him if both fit.

Moreno is a liability. He's also a bit dumb. And looking for the first opportunity back into La Liga with one of the big boys. Not too many redeeming points there.

Admittedly they were all shit last night, but he was one of the worst (close to Can levels of abomination).

I don't mind Moreno. I'm a sucker for his pace at the back but I just meant that he's fairly disposable. He'll do something stupid and he'll make me want to tear my hair out.

Its not that he's young and inexperienced that gets to me, I don't expect him to re-enact Ashley Cole in his prime, but not tracking a runner that moves right across your eyeline, and that shithouse dive in with your heels dross should be really easy to fix. He hasn't, and shows no signs of doing so.

Moreno's equal parts enthusiasm and naivety. He covers across the backline very well and made a great block in the first half against Walters but he's hopeless at marking in the box from crosses.
At times last night he was running after stoke players so far away from his own position it was like watching a dog chase a car.
He turns into a different player every 10 minutes.

You mean the bit where he let Walters go and fly past him in the first place, didnt see the need to track him, and then thought "fuck, I think i'm supposed to be defending against him" thus necessitating the resulting desperation 'great block', right?

He ran into an area that Sakho should and could have covered but wasn't even aware that Walters was there. Surely Moreno getting the block means that he tracked him doesn't it?

Moreno is very raw. His form is a bit erratic for my liking though. Wish he could be more like Clyne.

I like Moreno. I think I'm the de facto leader of his fan club. And also possibly the only member.

I like him too. But there is no denying he is going through a lean patch right now, last few games were not good.

Watch it again - you actually dont have to be too clued up, because I think Carragher uses it in his half time analysis to demonstrate how completely fucking inept Moreno is defensively

I've always though tif you have a solid CB pairing, a good DM and a decent keeper you can have full backs that bomb on and give the opposition more problems than they cause you. In the old days wingers were wingers and if they got to the byline they usually produced a shit cross, or if it was a good cross the CB and keeper dealt with it. Bit different now as about 95% of wide players aren't really wingers. They are forwards who drift wide, cut inside etc. Full backs seem to offer more natural width nowadays.

A lot of the problem comes from the fact that we don't have a solid CB pairing, a top-notch DM (I'll allow that he's "good") or a decent keeper.

I'd put him (Moreno)in midfield and run at defences a bit like he does now but doesn't have to track back as far.

I think he will be even less effective attacking wise. Moreno doesn't have the instant acceleration which Sturridge posses. His strength is running into space from deep where he has the time to build up the acceleration and crossing/twatting the ball. If he is played further forward he will not have this luxury. He will be operating in tighter spaces and he does not have the skill, the trickery, or dribbling ability to operate in tighter spaces and go past players.

Find me a worse centre back in the premier league than Sakho, I dare anyone.

He is absolutely fucking dreadful. As bad as I've ever seen, truly.

I'd have Flanno or Smith before him and fuck him off back to Spain. Pretty much everyone said before this match that Flanno should start there. However with the way we dominated possession maybe Smith would have been better, he's even pacier than Moreno and can actually cross a ball.

Wanted to say Lovren but nope, Sakho has truly taken up that mantle now.
