"Lucas Leiva will return to the squad, which is great news because he's been working very, very hard and played the reserve game last week.

"He's been training for a few weeks and looked very good, so we'll look forward to bringing him back in.

"Other than that, the mood is very good and we're really looking forward to the game."

Lucas's return to first-team action will be greeted with delight by everyone connected with the club.
Not least Rodgers, who believes the No.21's comeback will give the team a big boost.

The boss said: "He's very much looking forward to it. He's worked tirelessly in his recovery. We're just trying to nudge him along and make sure it's the right time.

"He had a few weeks of training before he played his reserve game. He looked very capable in that game and he's had another week of training and I don't think he can go any further with regards to training.

"His next step is games, so hopefully in the next couple of weeks he'll get opportunities to play and improve his football fitness.

"Mentally he's a tough boy. His mental fitness is very strong and he's looking forward to helping the team.

"It's a big boost because he's well in tune with what we're trying to do here. He's been kicking his heels on the side wanting to help his mates and the group, so I am delighted to have him back.

"He's a good guy and has a lot to offer the team, both on and off the field, and it'll be great to have him back in the squad."

Binnying done in honor of Binny

Thank god.

I'd be looking to give him 30 minutes against Southampton, and then the full game at West Ham.

We've scored 18 goals, which is the same as QPR who are bottom of the league. Less than Southampton, who are defo going to get relegated too, and people are wetting themselves over the return of a player who is more likely to score an oggy than get an assist.

I haven't got a clue about footy anymore.

I think what will happen once Lucas goes back in the team, is going to be a disaster.

Whatever formations and tactics you try to drill into players, in truth they are all ignorant fools who take their positions and role on the field from those around them. Now every single one of our midfielders will feel inferior to Lucas given what has happened this season. This will manifest in them sub-consciously drifting further and further back so they are playing behind Lucas, as a type of psychological deference technique. Allen will do it and justify it to himself as though he is showing some sort of respect to the mighty Lucas. Henderson will do it. Possibly even Gerrard.

We will have our defensive midfielder back, and in turn the rest of our midfield will turn into outright defenders.

.

You have a clue about football Woland. Don't embarass yourself with this shit.

As you well know Woland, it's got nought to do with how many goals he scores and much more to do with those he enables to take up goal scoring positions.

Can't happen fast enough.

The thought of bringing in a blockbusting defensive maestro to free up your massive attacking threats that have been negated in his absence sounds brilliant.

Unfortunately, it sounds shit when you use their names.

As we're on the subject of Lucas, or rather 'Lucarse,' have you seen that TLW has set up a lynch mob for (the forumite) Brendan, aka Silverlining? It turns out he works for News International, and all of his old victims are raging about it.

I am a refugee from there. I left because of him and another cunt called Code72. I really couldn't stand having to trawl through their endless tripe to get to the decent posters. The two biggest weapons I've ever come across. It does not surprise me about silverlining, he is an utter cunt.

I don't every really see Lucas as captain tbh - not a dominant enough personality imo.

Otherwise - thought he was sensational in his first match back. Did you see the effort Gerrard made to get over and shake his hand when he was coming off? I lost count of the number of times he picked the ball up when a defender got in a tricky situation. Then came the distribution which was as good as at any stage while he's been off ..........and this was his first game back in an age. There were plenty of signs of rust but he was always available, made a couple of errors but got the team moving forward constantly.

I was amazed tbh. He played 86 mins & was perhaps 60% of the player he could be, yet made a difference to the performance.

It's a shame Gerrard, sterling, Allen & suarez all are knackered/out of form cos we could have knocked a few in otherwise.

I'm dreading us playing a few games without the above players but if we can rest them & coincide their return to the side with Lucas coming to form we should start converting some of the draws into wins.

Lucas had a great game yesterday. It's a shame the rest of the team didn't play to the same level.
