Liverpool vs Spurs Match thread

You know as someone who never had a problem with you in the past, I find that you are becoming a monumental pain in the hole.

Incidentally Skrtel probably wouldn't have got turned by Kane because Kane would be lying in a heap on the ground, and then dusting himself off to take the penalty.

How many pens has he given away in his Liverpool career? Just to dispel this shit myth.

Lovren and Sakho comedy

I think its 7 now. Which is in the top 5 of all defenders in the Premiership since 2010.

4 against 2 and its comedy from Lovren?
It was a disaster from Sakho but what should Lovren have done differently when facing 4 Spurs players with one other defender at his side?
That stop start he makes is probably because he thinks Kane will play into one of the other 3 Spurs players.

We're usually on the same page mate but Lovren wasnt poor yesterday.
His Liverpoolcareer has been horrendous but he's improved greatly since October.

Oh, and its 6 in the Premiership since 2006/2007. So 6 in nearly 10 years. He didn't concede a penalty until 2010. Right around the time he started having to play alongside any old chump.

In that situation he has to go to the player once he's in the box, he doesn't, he back steps, then steps forward, then back steps again and allows the shot. Woeful.

Who are the other 4? And why since 2010? He's been playing for us since 2007, so that's 7 in 9 years.

The stat was from 2010. Could be more pens conceded from 07 to 10. Not sure.
Koscielny, Bassong, Shawcross was on the list.
This is a job for Binny

I dont agree but I'll leave it at that. You clearly dont like him.

And you Skrtel. When Lovren has played well, I've backed him. That moment yesterday and the one that Ryan highlighted last season where he's running towards his own goal not even looking at the freekick that's being taken, it's school boy stuff Hansern. Skrtel might be aggressive and overly so at times, but at least he makes a decision and goes, these pair are too indecisive and it repeatedly costs us.

None of our centre halves are good enough. I don't see the point of defending or advocating for any of them.

I agree. But Lovren was possibly our MOM yesterday yet he's being slated for getting turned by possibly the best striker in the premier league at the minute. My complaint in that goal would be the part Clyne played in it.

I just dont think Skrtel is up to it anymore.
I've had nothing against him during his career at Liverpool but its time to move on.
Those last ditch tackles these days usually comes from being out of position.
The whole defence looks even more vunerable when he starts.
Age, contract, ability. Thats why I'd sell him.
Great servant to the club though.

If Lovren doesnt improve further he should be sold next summer.

So, I summary, we still need two new CBs, Lovren played well yesterday but made one or two typical mistakes, and Sakho is an predictable liability that needs ejecting from the club

We knew all of this already.

Skrtl has always been a liabiliy.
Rash, poor positioning, abysmal marking.
A mid-table player if I ever saw one.

Yeah, I agree. Lets not talk about our sub standard defenders. This lad though. Fucking hell what a player;

I've been one of Sakho's biggest fans over the last three years, but it's pretty clear he's not going to make it as a first choice centre back here, nor is Skrtel, in fact Lovren is the only one who's shown enough to stand a chance. From watching us play, it's pretty clear that Klopp likes to play with a centre back who goes forward and attacks any incoming threats and one who stands back and covers (which Lovren did superbly yesterday), Sakho was clearly the one going forward and challenging the ball yesterday, he did it very well 50% of the time, the problem with being a centre back though is that you're judged on the times you royally fuck up, which was far far too often from Sakho yesterday. I think it's pretty clear from watching his gameplay clips at Schalke that Matip has come in to replace Sakho in that role, the question is, will Klopp replace Lovren on the other side? Personally I'm fine with him leaving Lovren their with Skrtel as backup, I'd rather him focus on a goalkeeper, a midfielder and a goal scoring winger, and I believe with a good preseason and some more time training under Klopp, Lovren can begin to rediscover his Southampton form.

How can anybody say they'd choose Skrtel over Lovren?

Skrtel has declined massively the last 2 years, we should get rid in the summer!

Lovren saved Sakho's ass multiple times last night, he's improved massively.

You never know which Sakho you will get, it's either the beast v The Scum in Europa, or the Sakho of last night.

If we go into next season with our defence like this, we should be okay.

--------------------- New GK

Clyne ------ Lovren ---- Matip ----- Hector

Well happy with us yesterday. Up against a very well drilled Spurs side going for the League, and we cut them open several times. They've the best defensive record in the League.

Nah, it was not smart defending at all. He didn't read it well. It's the difference between a top CB and a so-so one, and unfortunately, none of ours are top class.

I wonder if they even watch tapes of our opponents. Kane uses his body to turn defenders almost on a weekly basis. Someone like Hyypia would have read that a mile away, and positioned himself perfectly.
Read it well ? Kane knew exactly what he was going to do and Lovren had to react, not position himself for the ball to run past Kane leaving the inside open. And if you think Sami was never turned then you are sorely mistaken. It's a little glib to say that is the difference between a top CB and a so-so one, it could equally be said that is the difference between a top class striker and an average one. It was a great turn and a great strike, sometimes that happens and we just have to suck it up, not always look for someone to blame.

Sakho performed a couple of his trademark blunders but got away with them. He intercepted a hell of a lot of Spurs crosses the rest of the time.
You know I like Sakho Portly but yesterday he went from the sublime to the ridiculous and back again three or four times ! He really is an enigma.

Terrible first half from Sakho but coincidence he had the abysmal Moreno in front of him perhaps? It was pretty evident that he was much better in the second half when Moreno was much more disciplined.

I was always under the impression Danny Rose was muck. Very impressed with him yesterday....was in Main Stand and he never stopped that 2nd half.

Knew it was a matter of time before someone brought up the Moreno excuse. Sakho's utter ridiculous shitness in the first half was totally his fault and nobody else's. It wasn't like he was running out to cover Moreno's gaps and getting caught out. Oh no, no. He was chesting the ball to an opponent, tripping over the ball, losing his footing under the slightest pressure, making very slack passes, tackling blades of grass, etc.

He was utter fucking gash and totally turd but of course, it was all induced by Moreno's mysterious aura of vulnerability.
