Kolo Toure deal agreed !

The preference of who is signed first is irrelevent. Kolo being signed first doesn't automatically mean he's the priority signing. Some deals take longer than others based on all sorts of factors.

Another CB will come in.

Obviously.

I think we'd all feel confident about signing this prat if we'd already banked some quality.

He began his career as a utility player, switching between the defensive midfield and right back positions. I think besides his experience and availability on free transfer, his versatility was also an added bonus. Carra was probably on decent wages too and this seem like a 'straight swap'. He'll have to earn his spot in the team for sure. I doubt he's going to walk into the starting XI just like that, thus I'm not too worried. Not yet, anyway.

Agger has been mentioned as a possible vice captain for us right?

Skrtel being captain for Slovakia 7-8 times a year is relevant to being club captain how exactly?

You do realise Toure isn't a scando, don't you? And what does changing the topic to being a club captain have to do with discussing leadership qualities? You want Toure as club captain? Rodgers obviously desn't think the existing players have leadership qualities, whether they've been captains or not. So you think Toure is being brought in for his leadership skills? He can't motivate himself to keep his fecking paunch off.

They're not exactly leaders of men

Maybe not in the Premier League, but I think there is a difference representing your country and being club captain.
Imho though, Agger could do a decent job as vice-captain.

Shit - confirmed by LFC.

Liverpool Football Club can today announce they have agreed a deal in principal with Kolo Toure to join the club on July 1.

The powerful defender will be registered as a Reds player when his current deal with Manchester City expires.

Toure, 32, will arrive at Anfield boasting a wealth of experience having represented both City and Arsenal in the Barclays Premier League since switching to English football in 2002 and add depth to Brendan Rodgers' defensive ranks ahead of 2013-14.

The Ivory Coast international, signed by Arsene Wenger from homeland club ASEC Mimosas, made his Gunners debut in the 2002 Community Shield against Liverpool at the Millennium Stadium.

Originally deployed in midfield or at full-back, Toure was moved to centre-back for the 2003-04 season and helped Arsenal go the entire league season unbeaten as they swept to the title, adding to the FA Cup they'd lifted the previous season.

He added a second FA Cup medal in 2005, while a year later he was part of the Arsenal side that reached the Champions League final against Barcelona having scored the only goal of the two-legged semi-final with Villarreal.

After more than 200 appearances for the Londoners, Toure was firmly established as one of the finest centre-backs in the league - and Manchester City duly swooped to sign him in the summer of 2009 and immediately appointed him club captain.

During his four years at Eastlands, he lifted another Premier League title and FA Cup in over 100 appearances for City.

On the international stage, Toure has represented the Ivory Coast at two African Cup of Nations tournaments and two World Cup finals. He has more than a century of caps for his country, for whom he has also worn the skipper's waistband.

He'll become the first Ivorian to play for Liverpool when he joins the club.

Let's think on the bright side - wages (and signing on fee) aside, money can be spent on other signings. Would probably free up one of our young CBs to go out on loan and gain valuable experience.

Probably not but i cant see him agreeing for less than say 60-70K..

I doubt that. We've changed the wage structure of the contracts to be much more performance related.
At a guess a lower weekly wage but with a decent amount pr game.

Ha ha! I'm probably in the minority but I don't see this as a bad signing - He's got experience and is PL proven. Having said that I know fuck all about players other than LFC ones so my opinion should be immediately invalid.

At least I'm honest about it 😉

If the alternative was Ashley Williams on a four year contract then I am happy with Kolo Toure, presumably on no more than a two year one.
Just.

Kolo > Williams (fee, length of contract etc)

Kolo will hopefully be our 3rd or 4th CB at best ... If he's 2nd, I'll be greatly concerned but I cannot believe for one second that we've signed him to partner Agger.

I can only assume the simple minded Rodgers was confusing him with his brother, and after having already entered into negotiations he was too embarrassed to pull out.
