Best I've seen him play in his short cameo tonight, it's great that Rodgers has recognised a lack of covering ground in the midfield, so he's given Henderson a shot in a supporting role, but he's inevitably tracked back and worked hard too. He seemed to give Allen the same job tonight and it worked. So perhaps Gerrard 'sitting' isn't all that bad after all, he played some brilliant passes in the last two matches in that role.
I know the argument, because I've constantly been the one arguing it, that he should be further up, but he's
older and proving ineffective in congested areas, being able to look up and assess the play has certainly helped in the last two games.
Didn't Gerrard have two assists (and was heavily involved in Sterlings goal)?Agree with that, Hansern. In 30 minutes he could have had 3 goals and a quite beautifully played assist. Sunderland were beaten, but Allen did more than anybody bar Luis to open up their defence.
Stevie was good tonight, but that's a very generous summation. I agree Allen came on at a good time, but he did very well, using the ball effectively. The critical "Joe Sideways" tag hardly applied tonight. He was purposeful and incisive.Didn't Gerrard have two assists (and was heavily involved in Sterlings goal)?
Stevie was really good tonight. He spread the passes around with millimeter presicion (?). Great game and could easily had another assist or got one himself.Didn't Gerrard have two assists (and was heavily involved in Sterlings goal)?

No. That's not the reason either.I know. We've lost game after game because Gerrard has been pre-occupied with pressing and doing donkey work instead of taking it easy in his old age and using that brain of his to create goals.

Allen was impressive when he came on. Great runs into the box and unlucky not to get on the scoresheet.
Ah! Yes! Rodgers! Not Gerrard. If Allen wasn't pulling his weight, it's wrong to fault Gerrard. The problem is, that Allen was filling in for Lucas, so there was only so much running he could do too.I presumed that wastefulness was the reason you had in mind. Yes I agree with those multiple failings but what the fuck can you do about those with no money and a paper thin squad? The solution is to use what we have effectively to cover up for those failings. Which Steven Gerrard is capable of doing.
I'm not blaming him personally. It's up to Rodgers to take 5 mins out of his all important training session. Pull Allen to one side and go look mate, you cover 12 km per game. Gerrard covers 12. Next week Gerrard is going to cover 10 and you're going to make up the other 2. That's the deal. Sucks for you, but shit happens you know. Deal with it. And that's the problem solved.
