I understand the fact that he's a player that's supposed to keep us ticking, but that should never be the only thing he does. Far too reluctant to provide the final ball.
Xavi keeps things ticking for Barca but he continuously puts in great through balls or picks out players in the tightest of spots just outside or inside the penalty area.

He needs to pull his finger out, cause in the attacking sense he's not doing anything Lucas wouldn't do, minus Lucas's defensive discipline.
When Lucas is back Allen has to up his game. Two central midfielders have to be relied on to provide the attacking imputous. Not Gerrard all on his own.

...and they have to be played in the right positions to enable that to happen. So far Allen's been taking "one for the team" by playing out of position. If he gets the chance he needs in his proper role and still doesn't produce, *that* will be the time to get on his back. Doing it now is waaaaaaay previous.

Even playing out of position, contributing zero is bad... You have to offer something. Latent he has been poor both ways, and need to step up his game. I dont think people demand a lot, but Chuck Adams Did supply the odd throughball or shot at least. I have no doubt Allen can be good, but he is way off his own standards now. To look for excuses him will not make Liverpool better. We must demand more from our central midfield.

Why do we always buy players that need the most precise of setups in order to succeed?

And not everything on the pitch has to explained away by systems and positions. Misplacing passes and losing possession has nothing to do with any of that - retaining possession is something a Liverpool player should be able to do in any position on the field.

Allen is in a poor run of form regardless of Lucas' absence or his position.

Not entirely IMHO. Both factors play a part. Allen isn't in good form at the moment, but nobody's likely to be when they're doing an unfamiliar job.

But Allen doesn't stay in our own half throughout every game Jules.
He often pushes up, receives the ball, then looks for someone else to make something happen. He takes zero risks and has done fuck all this season when in those positions.
I'm not saying he should try some stupid through balls when there are no options, but he's ONlY looked for the easy options this season and slightly changing his position won't cure that. He has to pull his finger out right now.

I don't think that's fair over the season as a whole, though I accept it's been happening more in the last few games. Earlier in the season Allen's passing was more ambitious at times. Someone (I think it was gkmacca) referred above to the need for others to get themselves into space so Allen has options to pass to. Perhaps Rodgers has told them to tighten up, but that's not happening as much as it was.

So Lucas has been back for what now, 4 games. And Allen hasnt played well in one of them.

Sorry to keep harping on, but i was told i was totally wrong when i started this thread. Its not looking that way at the minute to me.

Hes poor and needs dropping right away. Hes BR's little golden child though so not gonna happen.

Optimistic or not, I just cant handle the kneejerking and calling for the managers head after a loss.

Fair enough that you feel that way about Allen mate. He could do with a spell on the bench perhaps, but he was very good against Soton and Udinese.

I rate him and think he'll be a cracking player for us.
At 22 he needs some time aswell

He's not playing well at all.

That is not the same as not being good though, the way he played at the start of this season was excellent & that doesn't just vanish.

We need a hard-as-nails fucker of a midfield in there alongside Allen et al. Someone who would have forearm smashed Benteke into the Kop when he ran straight through the middle for that goal, or scythed him down before he could hit his stride. Someone who's going to put a marker down at the start of games to state we're not to be bullied in the centre of the park and spend his time making crunching, eye-watering tackles, none of this sophisticated interception shit.

Wanyama, Diame, hell even Momo Sissoko.

Wanyama, M'vila or Capoue. We should be in for one of them as a matter of priority. As important as getting in quality attackers.

He's good, but he's playing the wrong sport. Clearly grew up on rugby. Late tackles and sideways passing - we should get a few quid for him off Wigan.

"Out of form"

Been said for the last 3 months. How long do you give him?

It hasn't been as long as that, but in any case I'd give him a sight more than 3 months, especially after the way he was playing earlier in the season. Like Foxy says, you don't become a bad player *that* quickly.

Im not sure he was that good to begin with Jules. He played really well in 2 or 3 games at the start of the season.

Anyway, im leaving it now, time will tell i suppose.

The shit thing is that he will never be dropped. He will played and played and played and played, and when he finally is involved in a goal Rodgers will be telling the whole world how wrong they were... Fuck it.
