WTF was Southgate thinking? He's been there and missed. He knows the pressure and he loads it on a 19 year in a tournament deciding spot kick. He should have gone with his most experienced players, Hendo, Shaw, Grealish even Stones.
However Italy deserved to win. Their goal was lucky, coming back off the post after a great save, and they didn't create any other real chances, but you can't argue with 19 shots to 6.
Southgate, as I said once the team was announced, was a coward. We had excellent attacking talent but he decided to pack his defence. Having started with 4-3-3 for every game up to here and only reverted to a back five to defend a lead (Germany and last 20 mins of the Denmark game).
Take the opportunity he said ... he spurned it.
