That's cause you literally copied what I wrote on him when we signed him.
That said it's a decision with no right answer for Rodgers and two alternate scenarios will get played out:
- We sell Carroll for about 15m now. He will have a significantly improved season next season and will look like a 20 - 25m striker. The media (and plenty of fans) will keep using it as a stick to smash the manager with because he clearly doesn't understand how to manage transfers.
- We keep Carroll and his form will make him a 20 - 25m proposition for any team interested in signing him. However, the team doesn't develop the way Rodgers wants and essentially puts us one year behind in his project to develop the team. He will be constantly canned by the media (and some fans) for playing a striker who doesn't fit with our style of play.
The 64 dollar question to be asked right now is whether Carroll, playing well, could be the source of goals to put us into a top 4 position and CL. If so, should Rodgers effectively allow the project to be delayed in order to achieve that short term success of top 4?
Personally I think he's the wrong type of player for the football Dalglish wanted to play and the same is true for Rodgers. However, he does provide a "cutting edge" which I fear we are going to lack next season during the reformation of the team. Let's face it, Barca and Spain have both appeared to huff and puff with no effect on occasions despite the fact they're the "finished product". I expect to see us being less effective in the final third during the formative stages of this project and that's going to frustrate us as fans no end. Carroll would provide that "edge" when the team is struggling which could prove very important to give the manager the support he needs both amongst the fans and at the board room table.
