Things we were very wrong about in 2024

Nunez for me. I loved what I saw when he was in Portugal ( and the potential he showed from some games his first season) and thought he could replicate it here given time. Sigh.

This thread should be an annual tradition.

Not sure about football matters, but I thought no way Trump would win. This rocked my world, not in a good way.

Oh, I remembered a football wrong - I was sure Mane would have more longevity at the top level than Mo. Totally taken by surprise how quickly Sadio’s career faded.

Also I overestimate Arsenal and Spurs every year.

I thought David Thompson was better then Gerrard.

May not have been in 2024 - but you don't get much wronger than that
So did I - but the assessment on Thompson is unfair - my understanding is that they both graduated together but Thompson was sold - I do wonder had we had kept him then Gerrard and him long-term would have done well together. It would have been healthy competition that would have maybe forced him to raise his game.

Yeah, I had big hopes too. I STILL think there's a helluva player in there, but it is looking less and less likely that it will happen at Liverpool. It wouldn't surprise me if he goes to Spain or Italy and starts getting big numbers.

"The first recorded zero appeared in Mesopotamia around 3 B.C. The Mayans invented it independently around 4 A.D. Brahmagupta developed the earliest known methods for using zero in calculations in the 7th century."

Zero is a number too.

It's not a big number though. Indeed, of the numbers, it is surely the least.

The thing I think I got most wrong, and it's an extensive list, is that I don't miss Klopp nearly as much as I thought I would or at all really.
That is not meant to be disrespectful to the bloke who I think the world of both as a manager and a person.
I was totally devastated when he announced he was leaving a couldn't bring myself to watch the announcement video for days.
By the time he left I had become totally reconciled to it. Perhaps all the emotion had been wrung out of me by then.
No doubt the so far successful start of Slot has lessened the blow of losing Jurgen and I am not pining for him in any way at all but there no notable mourning and ruing his departure in the summer either.
As I said, I still hold Klopp in the highest of esteem but he is drifting into the category of fond former manger like Ged and Rafa much quicker that expected.
Strange.

There's one specific armchair expert here who is missing in this thread.
Now I'm not the one to call people out by name but the amount of "Hodor'ing" this person did for this certain player was on an epic level.

So, just come out and admit that you were wrong and all will be good in the world.
No one takes this seriously, anyway. Everyone gets it wrong.
It's Christmas mate, let's make Jebus smile.
You might be on the receiving end of some playful ribbing, nothing serious.

Quansah, I thought he was the next VVD.
Nunez, I thought would kick on and become the talisman
CJ and Grav proved me wrong by being very good
Robbo, didn't think he would be so haphazard
Trent, I thought put his laziness behind him. He thinks he is the next pirlo or something
Konate, I had written off because he breaks down so often but under Slot's system he has been awesome

Mo for me as well. Going back a few years I didn't want Bellamy either and was very pleasantly surprised by how that move turned out.

But the real big one in my case was half a century ago when we replaced Keegan with the King, whom I'd never been that impressed with at Celtic or for Scotland. I spent the next decade celebrating how wrong I'd been. 😎
Ditto, Kenny who.....?
I couldn't even pronounce his surname.

I was wrong about Nunez and Gravenberch, but loads have said them already. The one that sticks out otherwise is Gakpo. I've never really worked him out cos he's a weird player, but is clearly quietly effective rather than total shit as I thought earlier in the year.

It's cos it doesn't look like he's trying very hard, as he glides past every RB in the league. You're right. It's weird.

Doku is no different to the last season version of Ben Doak we had. The main difference is that Doak is learning his trade and learning & improving.

Well i'll tell you what's the biggest and most pleasant surprise for me so far.

The implosion of Citeh.

But now i've got another thing to worry about. The Chavs are back.

They've got 3 flipping first teams on rotation ! That alone deserves banning by itself.
