Andy Carroll In Danger Yo !

The north east correspondence for 5 live, said earlier, that newcastle only wanted to take carroll on loan and not pay a fee now.

Also they normally speak to a club about the best offer first time round, if a club turns them down they dont go back in and increase thier fee, cited them loosing out on the dutch striker (luke de?) so unless we change our stance on a loan move, he may remain with us

If hes not the right player then fair enough. But how about he gets a chance to try and prove that he is?

I don't know Jack, I'm guessing Rodgers has already seen enough to know he not central to his plans. The other argument is the value of him, if Rodgers thinks he's the kind of player who, at best, will be a bit part player in his system, then of course he's right to take the £20m. What's the point in having £20m wasting away on the bench while you can only afford a £10m one for the first team? If this means we can buy someone of real quality in one of the attacking roles, then I'm all for it. As I said earlier, when managers buy players and it's strikingly obvious that they don't fit the way we're set up, everyone is up in arms over it, now we've got a manager who is identifying what he needs, and therefore, what he doesn't need, he's getting flack for it. He's not suddenly going to develop a first touch, good movement and a bit of pace. He's a centre forward who on his day is a powerhouse and difficult to play against, most other days he's a big lad who falls over too easy and then spends 10 minutes moaning about it to the ref. For example.

If we get 20m for him then fair enough. Maybe the deal with Newcastle was already done and that's why BR decided to talk so openly about packing him off. But pardon me for being sceptical and imagining it might just be the latest in a long line of transfer fuck ups.

"I like to control games. I like to be responsible for our own destiny. If you are better than your opponent with the ball you have a 79% chance of winning the game. For me it is quite logical. It doesn't matter how big or small you are, if you don't have the ball you can't score. This is our philosophy."

Forgetting the Roscoesque stupidity of that statement, this is the problem. 11% of the time those losses will mean us getting knocked out of cups and not winning trophies. I don't think Rodgers understands the concept of hedging your risks. If you play just one way all the time, and it is not 100%, then you are pretty much fucking guaranteed to lose during the course of the competition and get knocked out. Not to mention the sad fact that we are no longer better than a lot of our opposition.

A loan deal to Newcastle would be the worst possible scenario for us.

He'll want a permanent deal at the end of the loan and if he does well, Newcastle can decrease their offer and take the piss knowing Carroll wants to remain at Newcastle.

If not, we have an unhappy, unwanted player coming back.

This is my worry with BR apporach.

Its all well and good being coy about our potential targets but a bit silly not doing the same about the potential exists for the club too

We say 20, they bid 13.

This will probably be resolved with a 17ish bid. Maybe a loan with an agreed permanent transfer a la Zlatan from Barca to Milan.

That's the spirit. I think the main thing Henderson lacks is confidence.

I definitely think there's some truth in that, and that's partly what worries me about him. It's often terminal. There are players who have suffered from the same thing for their entire careers. cf. Stewart Downing.

sell johnson? fuck off.

Seconded.

Johnson is one of the fee players we have who wouldn't look out of place in the Manchester or chelsea sides. But let's sell him anyway, cos the press keep saying he can't defend.

That must be why we had such a poor defensive record last season, oh hang on, no we didn't.

It's not like Rodgers plays with full backs who have to push up the pitch to provide support anyway, oh hang on, yeah he does.
