It could be a Danish thing, it could be a thing with many players. I don't care if a player has an ego, as long as he backs it up on the field. I prefer humble players tbh, but it doesn't really bother me as long as they do what they're paid to do.
 
This. Which is better than him being back a few games and then giving it all the big "I am". He's doing it on the pitch right now and that's all that matters, the whole back four/five are playing well actually, which I guess is due in no small part to the influence of Kenny and the likes of Clarke. Johnson has really surprised me, he's actually looked 'better' at left back.
 
IF, and it's a big if still for me, Kenny/Clarke can get Johnson to play consitently defensively - it will be fantastic.

PS I hope the posters on here who has claimed for quite some time Agger's a poor defender really and that we are all simply misled by his decent touch on the ball, takes a closer look at this clip. And then admit they were wrong.

Is it just me or has Drogba lost a bit of muscle lately? He just doesn't seem as big and intimidating as a couple of years ago.

I think he has. Along a few other of the ageing Chavs as well. Lampard looks far less likely to score these days and Terry almost looks fat and cumbersome.

Name one. I've criticised Agger a fair bit in the past and you and I have argued quite a lot about him, but I've never once gone that far and I honestly don't recall anybody else doing so.

I know you prefer Skrtel to Agger mate, and that's cool.

I'm not going to dig up exact quotes but everyone on here knows there's been a lot said about Agger's abilities as a defender in the past and often it's not been flattering stuff either. Not a good tackler, overrated passer, bad in the air etc. Not the traits of a good defender if you ask me.

The way some posters tend to have a go at him at the slightest of opportunities (see Marks post above) kind of underlines that he's not been the most popular figure around here in some corners and that has obviously influenced argumentation - from both sides. Perhaps I'm partly to blame for this but that wasn't my intentions.

There might be a smidgeon of truth in each one of those statements, but it gets so overplayed, while Carra and Skrtel get continually lambasted by some posters for not having the same level of technical ability or having a bad spell of form, as though the be all and end all of a defender is their ability to pass the ball.

That's over the top IMO. Especially if you're talking about SCM as he's always seemed to divide opinions on here. I don't recall any truly vociferous supporters bar KHL.

I'm afraid I don't agree. When he IS out on the pitch we keep hearing about his "ability on the ball", but his partisans gloss over (or simply haven't noticed) the fact that his passes are actually wayward quite a lot of the time. He's certainly more comfortable in possession than our other established CBs, but too often the end product simply isn't there.

He's a bit more adventerous with his passing now and then hence he's sometimes not finding a teammate but he's equally assured in his short-passing game as any other defender we've got. It's when he's on the ball however the big difference shows in my opinion. Only few defenders in the game of today shows the same composure on the ball as he does. And he's ten times better than anyone in the squad today in that department why it makes a vital difference if he plays or not. Which the West Ham game for one gave a good indication of.

If he can't stay fit for a prolonged series of games however it's rather irrelevant whether he's over-hyped or not as he's then simply of no use at all.

We'd then need a new defender desperately as Skrtel and Kyrgiakos simply doesn't have the aqcuired quality.
