The Donkey

Al Hilal signed Mitrovic for 53m Euros, Ruben Nwves for 55m, Malcom for 60m and Neymar for 90m. All the highest fees in the league.

Some Saudi clubs pay pretty shit fees and high wages but this is the club we would want to be interested. Combine that with a manager has worked with him and wants him then we could well break even depending on what addons have been activated, which would be a insane.

Just a quick financial point on Saudi. We sold Hendo and Fabinho to the Saudi League. At the end of May 2023, I reckon their combined accounting value was about £14m (most of this was Fabinho).
A quick Google search suggests transfer fees of £12m for Hendo and £40m for Fabinho. We should have made a profit of £38m.
The 2023 accounts disclose a profit from sales between 1 June 2023 and 27 September 2023 of £19.3m.
That's only half of what it would have been based on reported fees. There weren't any other major departures that I can see, certainly not at around a £20m loss.
So there's a good chance some of those other reported fees are inflated.
And if you recall, the Saudi clubs assumed we'd just let Hendo go on a free and it was implied that we only got a fee because he took lower wages.

It can't be that they are paying in installments, i.e. the Coutinho money we are still owed?

No. The disclosures in the accounts are about total future amounts payable, regardless of when they are due. The cash flow disclosed is the net amount of purchases less sales proceeds, and is £156.2m. This implies purchases of around £189m (Mac, Szobo, Gravy, Endo). There may also be some add-ons for other players (most likely Darwin) because I estimated the four players acquired at £172m combined.
On the sales, it says "The cumulative effect on the profit and loss account since the period end in relation to the profit on sales of players is £19.3 million profit". The entire profit would be recognised on sale.
There is a slight reduction for the instalments - the future instalments are recognised at a discounted basis, typically the discount is a few percent of the total, and this goes through the future accounts as interest as and when the instalments are received.

I mean, in retrospect it's a fair fee for both of them. We squeezed them dry, but it seems clear they aren't interested in paying big fees by who they are targetting and where they are at in their careers.

That's the harshest I've seen anyone so closely connected to the club say about Nunez.
Yeah and he was wrong to be so forthright. Sky must have paid him double to say what he really thinks.

Whatever confidence Nunez had left must be in the bin now. He has to face his team-mates knowing that they all heard that too. He still has a part to play until he doesn't and a character assassination (accurate or not) like that is not going to help us.

Maybe he needs a kick up the hole. It might push his mindset into proving his doubters wrong.

Robbie's seeing this guy wearing his old shirt, and he's speaking in that context. It's like your missus has left you for some total nobhead. You still love her and then someone asks what you think about her new bloke...
And he said it in English, so Darwin won't have the faintest idea what he said.

Friend of SCM, Ken Early today suggested that Arsenal need a transformative striker to take them forward. Some like Cantona or Bergkamp. Came in as a damaged goods and took a team to the next level.

Would you sell Nunez to Arsenal for £30m?

I'd sell him to them, but I'd want more than £30m. We'd be taking a financial hit at that level.
They paid good money for Havertz who didn't look like he was good enough and still doesn't, they can pay good money for Nunez.
I actually think they are the team that should be signing Gyokeres.
