He is overpraised and has some obvious flaws (shooting be a very obvious and maddening one) but I didn't feel any need to single him out yesterday. He struggled to find the killer ball or touch but I don't think anyone did any better than him in terms of approach play. After a bright start from Sterling, it felt as though if an opening was going to come, it was gonna be from Coutinho.
Yep, Coutinho was fine yesterday. He probed and was given a lot of responsibility with the ball.
He still shoots like an erratic 14 year old but Chelsea's set up nullified his ability to create slide rule passes. He could have been withdrawn towards the end for Alberto perhaps but he himself is a bit of an unknown quality.
Texeira (sp?) looks to be similar to Coutinho in playing styles. Interested to see how he progresses next year.
I thought he was decent too, he was the one most likely to create something for us, it just didn't work out. I was more annoyed with Gerrard's speculative shots.
Ultimately, I think this game just highlighted in the cruelest manner how thin our squad is at the moment. Henderson out and Sturridge half-fit and it hurt us a lot. Chelsea even with all their absentees were still able to bring on 80M worth of subs and for all the talk about how Kalas was a "kid", he is a kid that played consistently for 2 seasons in the Dutch league. Inexperienced indeed.
