Walcott refuses to extend his contract

Anyway Arsenal will cave on wage demands, their fans would explode if they got rid of their 3rd 'star' player this summer.

Mystic, no it isn't, it's 17 (as I and Outlaw have posted) in 63/65 (different counts on different sites).
It is a good return for a 'winger' but as I've said I'd expect the raw 17 year old we've currently got to get a similar return if he started that many games. £10M is a central striker, not a wing forward who has always cried about being played there and wants £80k a week.

You think Sterling would get 17 goals and 15 assists in 65 premier league games?

You do realise thats better than Young and Bale and on a par with Nani. So you think our 17 year old kid who's started one league game would do better than the best wingers in the league?

I said nothing about assists Mystic, partly because unless they're from Opta I don't trust 3rd party websites to attribute them accurately. However, yes, I would expect that in 65 games our, still developing, young winger could achieve around 15-18 goals himself, as the lad has a very good eye for goal.

And really, Young has done about as much as Downing since his £20M move, are we now labeling him as one of the best in the league? For what?

So we have Sterling breaking through and the unloved Downing. If we keep Downing and buy Walcott, what does that say to Sterling? Can't see us playing two pacy wingers in our new system either.

That makes me think Walcott wouldn't come to us, plus City will push the price and wages ante up.

Nah he can rot in their reserves or go elsewhere and City need a replacement for Johnson. He fits the bill.

And you trust Opta ? I've watched matches then seen their stats - which were provably completely inaccurate. I have no idea who maintains their records but they are only also only human.

He's scored the same amount of goals as Nani and Dyer,he's scored more than Bale, Valencia, Mata, Lennon, Young, Sinclair. I can't think of any more but name me the best wingers in the league then, i'm pretty sure he's as good if not better than them for goals scored. To think Sterling is going to come in and match that is frankly ridiculous.

I've got to agree. That's way, way too much to expect from Sterling. He'll not play all that many games for us this season anyway. He's just not quite ready to be the number one.

Part of reason arse are happy to get rid is they have the Ox as back up and may be a better player. Though theo stats are Impressive.

Only worry is if he would theo hinder the progress of sterling

Fuck Sterling ... The Assassin will annihilate that record 😛

Walcott's quite a bright lad, and Rodgers would probably make him a better player (that would have sounded odd a couple of years or so ago, but Wenger seems very jaded these days).

How much of some of these players do you watch? Because I thought we were talking about a player of Walcott's ability, and I rate him higher than half the list?

3 of those players have only had 1 year in the prem, and 2 are clearly fringe players. Out of the other 3, yes I believe that Sterling could top Lennon or Bale for goals, given the same games. Why's that so hard to believe? He get's into very dangerous positions, has himself decent pace and knows how to hit the ball. Have a look at some of his goals, you'll see he knows how to score.

They're the ones that count so, trust them or not, they are the ones I go by.

Ox is being mouled into central midfield at Arsenal. Yep I don't understand why either.

Sign this player, for around half of what it costs to get Stewart Downing and a third of an Andy Carroll? Go on then. He also wins a lot of freekicks in dangerous areas, and wins corners. When you've got Sahin in your team, that's a real bonus.

We're talking stats here, nothing else, and does it matter if they aren't as good as Walcott? I've given you a list of the best wingers in the league and Walcott has bettered all but one of them, provide me another name if you want and it'll probably be a similar outcome, yet you seem to think our 17 year old prospect who hasn't scored a competitive goal for the first team yet will come in and match that total, in the hardest league on the planet, essentially making him one of the best wingers in the league, you're living in cloud cuckoo land.

When 1 of the players you list has scored no more than 3 league goals in the last 3 years, and another one is not much ahead of him, then it matters if we are going to be comparing to somebody who has scored 7 and 8 respectively.

Out of your initial list, the best winger at this time is Nani. I would put Walcott and Scott Sinclair on a similar level right now, with Bale just behind them. Those 3 players all/will score around 6-9 goals over 35ish league games, based on the last few years evidence (Sinclair was one in 2 in the championship, so I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt). So the actual question is do I believe Sterling, who I was initially just considering against Walcott given his development at this age, could come in soon and match that tally (7/8) over a season?........You're God Damn Right I Do!

Is he turning down 75 grand because he doesn't think it is enough, or is he turning down the contract because he never seems to be a guaranteed starter for Wenger?

You're effectively saying he'll match the best wingers in the league. You completely underestimate the other wingers and completely overestimate Sterling. If he got 5 league goals this season that would be outstanding and much more than we could expect. Don't be so deluded.

Walcott sounds like he wants more money/playing time. Little bit greedy seeing as he's pretty much just been a sub.

It also might be Wengers way of moving on a player thats not really lived up to all the hype, without looking like a fool.

I think his agent will be the one making all the money demands. I doubt Walcott cares that much. Playing time is surely what he's after. At City he'll be lucky to be more than Johnson's replacement on the bench.

walcott has developed into a better player in the last 2 seasons. Many of us still stuck with his performances in the early days.

He would be a very good signing for us as we need another winger, especially if we're converting Downing to a left back. Still need a striker as no 1 priority though.

Getting rid of Adam, Sterling is getting us £8m, not sure where we can get the funds from to sign two players we badly need.
