WOW certainly played like he had a point to prove, he showed again what a good footballer he is and delighted with his finish for the goal which had to be taken on the half volley. Unlucky that he hit the post, I think that was as good a 45 mins he has played. Stoopid Chelsea for giving him away.

Hopefully with a full pre-season and a more settled defense/midfield behind them, Suarez/Coutinho/Sturridge will rip the league apart next year.

I'd be fining him a week's wages for failing to celebrate a goal out of "respect for his fomer club" though. How about some respect for your current club who pay your wages and the fans who turn out to see you play?

Of all the things I hate about modern day football, this "respect" bollocks is right near the top of my list.

I can understand it in some situations like if the goal many they got relegated, or you'd played for them since a young age & left when they wanted to stay.

When they refused to play him where he wanted to & he pushed for a move though, it makes no sense at all.

Yes I feel shortchanged when a player doesn't celebrate a goal. I think I should be refunded the price of my ticket.

Sturridge was very good today. Hopefully he'll be fit and injury free at the start of next season.
Some of his touches were sublime today.

Hopefully. Sturridge has literally everything going for him. He's lightening quick, he's strong, he has two good feet and he can finish.

Question marks remain over his ability to sustain that kind of form consistently though. No good doing it once every half dozen games or so.

I have great hopes for him. He was my MOM and he was only on the pitch for forty five minutes. The biggest task for Rodgers is getting him play to that standard consistently. If he can then we're going to have not just one of the best forwards in England, but one of the best in Europe.

To be fair hes had a lot of moves in his career so far and aside from the season at Chelsea where he was basically frozen out he has been pretty consistent given he was young and not really a starting player anywhere he has played so far other than Bolton.

He should start next week after that performance, and following the inevitable disciplinary proceedings against Suarez he may get his first run of games in the side between now and the end of the season to see what he can do.

There is definitely the makings of a top class player in there, its a case of how much work does he want to put in, if he is happy to stay as he is now he will probably be a 12-15 goals a season player, if he is prepared to take it up to the next level and really work his socks off there is no reason he couldnt get 20+ goals a year

I still don't understand we he spends so much time in central midfield now. I always hated Anelka for playing this way and now it seems Sturridge has copied his former teammate's style. Daniel's best games for us were when he played as the number 9 ahead of Suarez.

I don't know, he scored and set one up and him being able to roam and probe caused Chelsea all sorts of problems. He does like to pick up the momentum from deep, it allows him to get into his stride and with that sort of power behind him, he's lethal. He still got on the shoulder of the last defender when it mattered and was the most forward player for his goal, so the instinct and ability to be in the right place hasn't been stemmed.

I think his form of late could be attributed to his injury, he's clearly been struggling. He looked alot sharper yesterday and back to how he was.

Yesterday was one of his best games for us - a game in which he was was regularly dropping deep to collect the ball before moving it forward again decisively. It's not the first time he's looked good doing it either.

I was quite optimistic about him when we first bought him, as I thought he could be excellent in the number 9 role, but I was a little concerned that he's a bit greedy and blinkered in possession. However, he's actually a much better footballer than I thought, and knows where his teammates are most of the time. His passing (and not just short-range) is very good indeed, and that cross for Suarez at the end was absolute precision.

A goal and an assist in one half of football will do very nicely, so I certainly wouldn't be discouraging him from more performances like that one.
