I don't think he can Squiggs.

I'd take him in the finishing stakes over Suarez, but that's it. He doesn't have the link up and movement, the free kick ability etc.
suarez is better technically. Some of the turns hes done in the past 2 weeks is unreal. i can't recall torres doing that.

And as for finishing...well...we've hardly seen suarez yet so i'm thinking/hoping he might be equal to torres

I do think Suarez offers a lot more in terms of dropping deep, demanding the ball, and creating. Something Torres never did not just because of his perceived lack of drive or motivation but also IMO because of a lack of ability.
I completely disagree with this.

When Torres was at Atlético he regularly played on the wing, when he plays for Spain he often plays as a support striker.

He played up front by himself when he was at Liverpool because Rafa wanted him to, not because he couldn't play anywhere else and definitely not because he lacked ability.
Yeah but torres wasn't exactly special when he played on the wing (or left/right of a front 3 i think it was) for them . Plus he sometimes looks a bit out of place in the Spain team , unbalancing it a little. I mean even after his amazing first season was us he was pretty poor at Euro 2008 until Villa got injured and he got more space as a lone striker .

Don't get me , he's a top , top striker but I think it's fair to say he's not an all round footballer to the same degree that Suarez is . Also when Torres is off form he can look really , really poor at even the basics ...it remains to be seen but I think Suarez will still add to the team play on his off days . Basically they are 2 different types of strikers , Torres the out and out with Suarez the all rounder , creator , scorer (maybe not 30+ goals in Prem but still good figures) .

Anyway Torres is gone , fuck him , It's just great to have someone who looks a proper player , skill , pace , trickery , the lot . Long may it continue.

Good man Ross.

He still doesn't striker me as a striker, but anyway, top player.
My knowledge of him is limited to YouTube clips but he sure scored a lot of strikers' goals in Holland.
The thing is that he can do it from all over the final third, and often keeps his options open for a final pass instead of a shot, so maybe he gives off that impression to you?
If by striker you mean a Fowler or Rush, then yeah, I'd agree with you but they were the best of the best amongst 'strikers'.

Lets enjoy his performances while we can. He will probably join Real Madrid or Barca in few years if he keeps playing like this.

I made a bit of a typo there, but yeah, he's a roamer. He just doesn't seem like a striker, he's very much an Arsenal type player, in the mould of the likes of Nasri etc.

Did John Arne Riise have a good day or something?

He's a fucking wanker, worst poster ever.

We were jumping around celebrating the first goal and I was shouting to no-one in particular "like maradona, like maradona".

Suarez is class, his all-round play and everything.

Today out of this world.

First big game for him and he totally dominated Utd's backline (granted they were very weak)

But F8ck me thay first goal was better than any dribble Torres ever did for me. How the F8ck did he beat them all with zero space?

I love him already.

I'd like to point out that for years whilst people were banging on about us needing a "top class left winger"/ "quality right winger" / "in the hole player" etc etc I only asked for world class attacking quality, regardless of where they were going to play. I think Vlad was with me too btw.

We had two world class players, and needed a third. That's the thing about genuine talent - you can play then anywhere. Tevez could play in centre midfield and still be outstanding. Rooney, Fabregas, Gerrard et al - doen't matter where they start, they'll influence the game.

In certain positions on the pitch, the need for defined role players is imperative - centre back, centre midfield etc, in attack - all you need is quality and they'll gel, as Barca, Real and United have proved for years.

This lad is absolute quality and exactly what we needed. We've now got another player who will scare the shit out of the oppsition, and influence games every week. Fantastic.

I agree with Ryan on the 'scaring' thing.

We got so close to something special, almost by accident!

Torres

Cole Gerrard Suarez

Ming Aquilani

Suarez will be your favorite player! It's going to happen isn't it! Such a good work ethic will to win and skillful as fuck!

I think the thing i like best about him is his quite wonderful positioning. Watch where he receives and picks the ball up - never in the same place twice in a row.

That can't be taught. Look at that big wardrobe N'gog - same fucking movement everytime. I like N'gog to be honest, but there's a reason why he always has a defender up his hole everytime he drops to receive the ball - cos he makes the same fucking run everytime, it's that bloody predictable.

Sexuarez on the other hand is in a different position every minute of the game, and always in space. How can you find space in a Man United-Liverpool game constantly? Answer - cos you're utter quality and it comes naturally to you.

Oh good play. In the absence of the Brendan nickname machine this may have legs.
