Pre-season already!

I agree to an extent - but given a large part of our squad jet off to all parts of the world for internationals during the season and are back playing within days I think the impact of long haul pre-seasons is sometimes inflated.

If it’s scheduled right, ie we get time after the trip to rest and we’re not bouncing around different countries every couple of days then I think it can be good.

Last season wasn’t ideal preparation - and bouncing around play games all over SE Asia would’ve ideal - but being based in and playing a couple of games in Singapore feels more sensible.

I’d be more worried about training facilities and pitches being up to scratch than the travel. Singapore should be fine in that respect.
I don’t worry so much about the travel mid-season for internationals as the players already have their base level of fitness. My concern about pre-season is that they don’t develop that base-level properly and are then playing catch-up when games are coming thick and fast. Similarly new players don’t get enough time to adjust to systems of play. You often see it when new players get injured in pre-season, they spend months trying to catch up. By contrast, players who already work hard at their fitness in their own time (or who have high natural levels of athleticism) are less affected. But across a squad, it’s a problem.
I just think the long-haul tours take too much training time away and replace it with tiring travel and jet-lag. It’s hugely sub-optimal.
I think last year we were done over by a long-tiring season the year before (with a deflating end), ageing core players but also the long-haul tour in pre-season. We were blowing out of our arses in the second half against Fulham on the first day of the season and never recovered.

I think the weather is a big factor too. Most people arent ready for SE Asian summer - the heat, the humidity, etc. It might tough to develop conditioning plans which bring players upto speed.

Yeah, I totally get the experience side of things. And we've managed trips to the US and had good seasons afterwards, but the extra travel to the other side of the world just seems to throw out our preparation. We were not fit enough at the start of last season and never really caught up.
Hopefully this year bucks the trend. Personally, I'd like to see the international friendlies post season in the non-WC or Euros years being canned and clubs doing post-season games in the Far East to reach the fans but without affecting pre-season preparation
I believe we are somewhat obliged contractually to go to Asia because it's a key market for Standard Chartered.
I would say again, these tours are nowhere near as profitable as we are led to believe - travel and accommodation costs kill the profit margin, so even the commercial argument isn't that strong without the Standard Chartered angle for is.

Short-term for sure. But in the long-term for a club of our stature it is critical to maintain that connection. It creates a generation of new fans. Even for someone like me, who has been following LFC for over two decades now from afar, seeing them once every four, five years just ignites that connection.

I don't think I appreciated this enough until a combo of sleep deprivation and jet lag upon returning to Canada from Spain sent my autoimmune condition into a tailspin that I haven't recovered from more than a month later.

Granted, our players are hopefully sleeping a bit better and not drinking beers and clubbing in Ibiza, but I definitely appreciate the travel impact a lot more now.

No Bradley is a bit odd. I thought he would be back-up right back?
We haven’t really played with a right back for the last 15 games.

He’s just signed a new deal anyhow which probably means he’s off on loan somewhere imminently.

Where’s Tyler Morton?

Presume he’s going off on loan somewhere too.

Bradley not going is odd - so he must be off on loan - maybe to Southampton on loan as part of the Lavia deal.

Are we signing a right back then?

Are we signing a player in response to a small squad becoming even more threadbare due to injury

Gomez as the right back then. Lets hope Trent never gets injured.

That’s ok… if he does JoGo is likely to be injured also… so we’ll play.. I dunno, Slobbers or Harvey at RB.

Yippee!!!

Re Bradley:

This Is Anfield understands that Bradley is in fact nursing a minor injury issue that would have restricted his involvement in Singapore.

As such, he has been left behind at the AXA Training Centre to recover.

So what I said above but in more words 😉
