Pre Match Pre Match - Newcastle (A) - Wed 19:30

Trent was excellent when he came on…
Going forward, yes. But I'm talking in general defensively, we have to always double up and help him out, hence he's someone that needs carrying defensively.

What he gives us going forward, it's worth it.

For the others, it's generally not.

I wouldn't be upset to see Darwin go. Apart from as a sub against tiring legs in the last minutes of a game, he doesn't offer much at all. But we'd do better to offload Jota first/as well, because we'd fall into the trap of thinking we've got a number 9 then he goes missing with injuries and form issues for large swathes of a season.

A draw away to Newcastle on paper isn't a bad result. It's just annoying

This. Thought we’d lose after that first half. 1 point in the end is okay, but so annoying when 3-2 up.

Next up is the last ever derby at Goodison against a very physical Everton who just won 4-0. Bah

Yep, defo time to cash in on one or both. They don’t offer enough gping forward for different reasons.

Frustrating draw in the end but in reality we were lucky not to be dead and buried at half time.

To come back twice and lead was superb.

Salah is just insane. 2 goals, an assist and one of the woodwork.

Top scorer in the league now too.

Hugely important game at Everton now after their huge win. Hopefully they are knackered.

Endo needs to start.

Honestly don't know what to do with the number 9 situation. Nunez is shite, Diaz isn't good enough there, neither is gakpo

Do we do some wild shit and play danns? Gonfalse 9 with szob?
Fuck knows. It should have been sorted in the summer. We just have to keep chugging on and hoping Mo keeps scoring.

We got what we deserved for playing like cunts the whole game.

Everyone should donate their weeks wage to Salah.

This slow control shit football can get in the bin too, totally fucking useless stuff.

Not having that at all, he's been very good defensively all season. But I think Madrid will grant your wish in a few months so it hardly matters anyway

It was never getting sorted in the summer. The excuses of "slot wants to assess the squad" were already out there as the ink was drying on his own contact. This club doesn't back from a position of strength

Sure, he's been MUCH better defensively all season. But that doesn't mean we don't have to help him out a lot with defensive support.

When Konate is there, we have great insurance inside of him, so when a Gordon/Martinelli do go past him, we have cover. Gomez provides decent cover. Quansah, very little (he himself needs help).

But as good as he's been this season, against the top wingers in the league, he's still someone we need to help out with defensive support.

But as a team you accept that, knowing how good he is on the ball.

P.s. By no means do I want TAA gone. He's the best attacking FB in the world and is getting better defensively too. Just against the very best wingers, he needs help more so than a prime Robbo (for example).

Overall we were lucky with a point.
From 3-2 however we could have easily closed the game out but didn’t.

We need to learn how to start games properly. And we need to rotate the midfielders. We lost the battle because Gravy & Macca are fatigued.

Overall some positives but Slot needs to learn from them.

Everton will be even more up for Saturday that Newcastle were for today.
