Right - things I saw in the game. It’s always too hard to take anything much from the game, but anyway.

First Half :
Our traditional 433 with Trent as DM, both FB’s pushing up high (although Bradley more so) providing width and support. Slobberchops started at LCM with Clark at RCM, but they swapped positions half way through at the drinks break.

Nunez was through the middle in a traditional 9 role.

Same issues as we’ve experienced before - lots is space in behind the FB’s and I’m not convinced Trent has the discipline to play as a solo 6 - but he did ok without getting his passing going and had at least one good track back into the box. He’s more mobile and has a better range of passing than Fabs, but not as defensively sound.

Nunez and Salah’s link up was ok - one of the travels passes from the outside of Mo’s left into Nunez to run on to almost came off, but I still think having Nunez there pushes Mo a little too wide and we lose a lot of his goal impact.

Slobberchops pressed, retained and probed well.

Different players in a few different roles, but nothing we haven’t seen before - midfield was better at pressing. Nothing could be done about the goal.

Second Half :
Change to the formation, I felt - more of a box midfield with Tsimikas tucking in beside O’Connell. Early on the CB’s didn’t move across to cover the and that’s where their goal came from - massive hole on our left.

This bit was new - Scanlon hugged the left touch line, with Jota playing through the midfield - that created room in the half-space and Gakpo was operating as a hybrid 8 / 10 - attacking that space with Tsimikas dropping in behind him.

Mac A was in a more traditional 8 role on the right, with Doak coming inside and Gomez overlapping occasionally.

Gakpo played well as did Mac A when he was ballooning shots into the stand.

What does it all mean?

Not much - Slobberchops & Mac A can play in either the right or left 8 positions are really mobile, smart, creative and press well; Gakpo can play anywhere across the forward or midfield lines, which is impressive; Trent from deep is the idea, but how I’m not sure; we absolutely have to sign a quality DM ASAP if Fabs is gone.

I can see Gakpo in the False 9, flanked by inverted wingers, Slobberchops & Mac A interchanging in two 8 positions and Trent given a free role from RB to either slot in as a 6 or push up wide - that would be a nightmare to deal with.

The above might work - if we get a solid LCB that can also play as a more traditional LB and we can get a quality DM in that can play in single or double 6 setups.

Diaz hugging the left touchline to open up space for the left 8 to run into would also work.

Nunez gives us options to vary from a False 9 to Traditional 9 - want to see him out left as well.

If Jota stays fit he cover left and through the middle.

Maybe we need to see if Diaz can play on the right as well.

munchen friendly. 27-0

i don't know.
if it's a competitive game. you want the goal difference.
but a friendly against a pub team. with quite a number of local crowd. is it necessary.

TLDR: sign a prime Kante and we’re all good.

I’m starting to think our best front three will be Salah Gakpo & Jota. Gakpo & Jota can interchange which is useful, but all of them have good touch, control and vision around the box.

we’ll see how pre season develops but I’m predicting this three for Chelsea.

There were some promising combination play between Gakpo and Jota. They both played very well.

Salah, hit and miss but always busy always trying.

Nunez, once again, doesn't looked like he has played with any of our players before.

Diaz, runs around on our left, not much productivity. There was one instance when Robbo ran all the way to the byline, only for Diaz to tread through a shit ball. Robbo didn't try that run again.

All based on one pre-season game though. We shall see what will change. So far yeah, Jot/Gak/Sal.
