He is probably getting picked because he has been our best defensive player every season since Mascherano left. Lucas isn't the best defensive player in the world but I would struggle to name a better defensive player in the PL than him. Many better central midfielders than him but not defensive midfielders.

I think we should pair up Lucas and Allen at CB. What they lack in height, pace, heading ability, tackling, strength, and positional awareness, they make up for in other attributes (that Arn can specify below).

Would be silly to play Lucas and Allen as central defenders. Lucas need someone that is very good in the air to partner him. It is a team game you know. We need a central defender that don't need a lot of touches before he pass the ball. Takes to long time and slow down our attacks and it is also easier to stress someone that use a lot of touches.

I would say that Toure is our best central defender in the air. He is also very calm when he play, just like Lucas. They don't panic because they know what to do in a tight situation.

Compere that to Skrtel, Lovren and Sakho. They panic very often in a tight situation.

Stoke have some players that is excellent in the air but the Lucas Toure partnership had no problems to deal with the many crosses.

I cannot understand how anyone could not watch that Stoke match and appreciate what Lucas brings the club. He shouldn't be first choice any more, certainly not if we want to be competing at the very top, but as a squad option he provides a lot to to this club.

As ever, all common sense goes out the window when it comes to Lucas Leiva and the result is it bores everyone to tears. The amount of people on here who hold a rational view towards this player can be counted on one hand, or possibly one finger. It's mind-boggling.
