Gerrard's corner balls were great today, really consistent.

Good, proper derby so far. Shame about the red card, but we've reacted well to being a man down, and maybe the injustice can inspire us to a famous victory? I also wouldn't bet against a Blue being sent off at some point. Hang in there, Liverpool...

Kuyt managed to get his body in some funky shape for the header.

The last photo is great. Art style.

Just watched the game there. I recorded it whilst I was at the rugby. I know, i know, egg chasing over football!!

A great performance by the lads today. Loads of commitment and passion. No one pulling out of any tackles, players working hard for each other. Our disastrous season may have brought the lads closer together. A great and important win.

A couple of points:

Insua has being playing much better in the last couple of games. Another good game today.
Lucas was excellent.
Maxi will need some time adjust to this league.
Babel is fucking shit.
Peinaar is a fucking bitch.

I didn't think he was Skull, one time I remember Donovan getting up against him one on one and skinning him, overall I thought he did well.

you having a giraffe? insua was disastrous.
[/quote]

A bit harsh. He worked hard, got forward well at times, and looked reasonably solid considering he had the powder-puff Maxi in front of him. But those two slips are what lodge in the memory - they could each have been very costly. Thankfully they weren't.

Who would have bet on Little Lucas popping up out of nowhere to save the mutha fuckin day ?

Hello, Brendan, hello ?

yeah i was a bit harsh on insua but it's an awful weakness in his game. he seems to get the piss taken out of him quite regulary.

today was the first time i enjoyed football this season. it's been a brutal affair.

i always enjoy a kuyt goal and celebration.

good comments by moyes

Everton manager David Moyes:
"I think there have been lots of derbies very similar; quite feisty and that's why fans like them because they sometimes have a little bit extra in them.

"The first sending-off (Kyrgiakos) was a two-footed tackle, both feet off the ground. I guess Fellaini could have gone too. I've no complaints about Steven's sending-off as there was a tackle earlier in the game where he might have been fortunate to stay on.

"I thought we certainly didn't deserve to lose the game today. We might not have deserved to win it, we didn't do enough, but we shouldn't have lost it."

Skullflower,

have you seen the link I put up in your "missed game" post ?

Insua was a worry when players were running at him.

He is improving though, hopefully his dip in form will help him develop and the fans give him a chance to learn from his mistakes before writing him off.

He gets caught flat footed and is on the wrong side of the ball/too tight too often. I don't think he's irredeemable, but there's little time left to humor those really significant failings for a defender, even with his age. The thing is, when in position, he's a good defender, good tackler, tidy in the ball, doesn't get nervous in possession etc.

I tend to think we'll be seeing more Aurelio in the near future.

i have no fundamental complaints with the insua situation. he cost under 2 mill so it's not like we got fucked. he's good enough to be a squad player and i would not rule out the chance of him improving enough to be a first teamer; though i do doubt it quite a bit.

LOL@ the Bluenoses crying on various phone-ins that Gerrard got Penarse sent off.

TOUGH.FUCKING.TITTIES !

this is pretty much what i think about lucas too.

Insua certainly needs to improve his positioning. He has improved his defending but Aurelio must start against Arsenal. I get the feeling that Rafa has stuck with Insua due to a lack of options. He is a squad player at best that reminds me of Bale.
