Really ? So penalties are now given even when no challenge is made (Skrtel didn't even know he was there) and when the opposing player actually goes over in the tackle he made ?
1st was actually not a pen and not a red - because the tackle started outside the box. But it was so close I can understand a ref making those mistakes. The second was not a penalty and was in fact a quite ridiculous decision.
Although we fell to pieces after that, and that is worrying, we were unlucky in that both of those decisions could have gone for us rather than against us.
Second pen. Skrtel was too slow, didn't realise long was behind him, swung a leg to get rid, but was too late.
There was contact, it was good play by long.

We made too many defensive errors, not closing for the first goal for starters, but the penalty issues were poor decisions that killed any chance we had of getting something from the game.

God that was disjointed. Started well but didn't capitalise. Neither Allen Lucas nor Gerrard too control. Defense was out of sorts and our wide men were non existence.

As indulgent as last season's responses were the opposite.
To be quite honest I think we are asking rather too much to expect it all to click first time of asking. Midfield I think will come, Allen's debut, Lucas not fit and off the pace and Gerrard - well not at all sure what happened there, it was almost like he has no idea what he was supposed to be doing.
Once Downing is removed from the equation and Assaidi or Sterling takes up the berth then I think we'll see a totally different attack, virtually every time we played down the right our attack faltered or came to nothing.
