I think Count's point was, that when we brought him on, he did fuck all to help us out.

However, I see it as an improvement overall. Downing seems to have gone from being shit, to being average. Next season he'll be our star player.

Next season Henderson will suddenly transform into Xabi Alonso.

If Downing could get his crosses past the first man, never mind beating him, or find someone who's actually in the box, I'd be delighted.

Gary he did what he usually does. Nothing. Absolutely fucking nothing.

Honestly think that's harsh. I've slagged Downing off more than anyone and one good cameo appearance still hasn't won me over by any means.

However yesterday when he came on, he actually had the beating off his man, his touch was good and he generally looked lively and capable of creating something. Each to their own but i thought he did well.

I think saying "he did well" is pushing it a bit. Having said that, I definitely don't think he made any blunders or anything. He won a couple of corners, and made a half decent low cross, but soon after he made a shit effort at another cross, that couldn't beat the first man, even though he had loads of space to hit it. It's a pity, because I'm well certain he has a lot more in him than we've seen so far.

This lack of goals thing ...are we expecting it to be sorted with the signing of a striker ? Obviously it could make a massive difference , well depending on the quality of striker we get , but i'm still a little concerned that we have a collection of players who just don't get goals .

Suarez we know about although i'm confident he can get over 20 goals in a season , gerrard doesn't get many anymore , Borini - the jury is still out but i am fearing the worst , Sterling for all the positives doesn't look to have goals in him ...yet . And i can't see Lucas , Allen and Sahin getting more than 5 between them all season .

I just fear we couldn be talking about this issue for a good long time , well beyond January .

to be fair to Borini, while he definitely hasn't impressed me yet, I like that he's not afraid to have a shot. Even if he misses, at least it's an effort. Past instances have been of me shouting at the screen because Suarez or Downing won't take the fucking shot. A central role for Borini could sort this out. Suarez on the right would also be better because Suarez is at his most dangerous and thus more likely to score when making diagonal runs.

Ta. Unfortunately a few bellends on this site can't offer an opinion without being a sarcastic, smug twat.
Gary, I apologise if you took offence from my very much tongue in cheek remark though if you are that sensitive I would recommend that you don't retort with even more insults because in most circumstances you are likely to receive it back with huge amounts of interest.

Regarding Downing I really don't see what you saw. His display on Saturday typifies what everybody continually criticises him for. He received the ball many times in dangerous positions yet never created one chance form them and I cannot recall an instance where he took on and beat his man or put in a decent cross

Yeah, Gary over reacted to downing and to count

Downing still offered fuck all. Yes he ran at the full back, but he didn't deliver 1 half decent ball, or make himself available. Johnson owned the left side.

And if you can't take a bit if sarcasm Gary, you clearly need to chill out a bit. It's a cornerstone of our (scm) society. That, calling people a "cunt", the condemnation of boot cut jeans and Bongaloid, all combine to become of foundation.

This is a lot to do about self confidence as well. We have players that is not all about goals, but it is no co-incidence that United scores 4 from 5 shots at goal, including two from people never played for them before. It is not like thiose players are all about goals, it is just that the team is used to score goals and actually believe they are going to do it.

I have feeling that after Borini gets his first goal he wont stop scoring. Its a confidence thing imo.

I skimmed through this thread, and haven’t bothered reading any others but I picked up on the Glenjo bashing for the Fletcher goal.

1 – Yes, it was a shit tackle. Completely shit.

2 – Agger’s attempt at defending it after Colback had waltzed past Glenjo was fucking reprehensible for a centre back. I’m not sure if anyone’s mentioned this so apologies if they have, but what in the name of cunt is he doing trying to second-guess the winger’s cross? This isn’t some fucking kid who’s playing his first game and doesn’t know better, it’s a 200 game professional for club and country whp’s been around for years, and he’s trying to be a smartarse instead of p[laying the percentages. You first job as a centre-back in that situation is to cut out the ball that Colback was inevitably going to play. Agger didn’t, he fucking danced sidways away from Reina on the off chance that Colback was going to play a cut-back – fucking ridiculous, and anathema to everything you’re taught as a centre-back.
You want to know how a CB should play: watch John Terry, or some old clips of Sami Hyypia or Tony Adams. They do the basic thing time and time again – they cut out the dangerous ball, they get set up correct positionally, and they play the fucking percentage. 99% of the time Colback’s going to whizz that ball across the 6 yard box, so you get into position and either cut it out, or make him do something different, you don’t fucking dance sideways trying to be a smart cunt.
Shit defending from somebody who should know better.

Somebody who can do such things pleas get the video and you can see what I’m talking about.

Glenjo’s mistake was a horrendous one, but it didn’t automatically mean goal. Agger compounded the fucking life out of it by not playing like a centre-back with his experience should have done.

I touched on that too Ryan, though tbf it was a colossal fuck up all round.

Whats annoying is that we keep on doing these mistakes as they are an implemented part of our gameplan. We need to stop, and we need a clean sheet as soon as possible. Hopefully on Sunday!

It was shite, but it was caused in some respects by a fluke- the ball bobbled away from the tackle by Suarez, which meant that GJ had not time to position himself properly and he had to stab at the tackle with his weaker left foot when the ball was poked past him on that side. It still wasn't great, but the whole thing was a mite unfortunate.

because we were playing away would starting sahin have made a difference? the logic being he would have given us more possession whilst admittedl providing less of a direct attacking threat?
